I’m currently sleeping on the 25+ year old mattress that I was conceived on. As you can imagine I’m very excited to graduate from this one for multiple reasons. 

After trying out a handful of different mattresses and understanding the ridiculous prices of some, I’ve come to the conclusions that 1) I prefer a medium/firm bed, and 2) I’m poor. I visited IKEA today and found the $500 Heston mattress (queen size). Curious if anyone has any experience with it, how it holds up, or any advice whatsoever. Thanks in advance!

<p>Edit: I’m a 5’8” 160 lb male, and I’ll be sleeping in this mattress with my wonderful and tiny 5’0 girlfriend. We tend to sleep on our sides and stomachs.</p>

my mother has severe spinal stenosis (several discs have broken down, she's had rods and screws installed with little benefit, as well as a torn glute repair. take care of your spines, kids.) she's 56, ~155, and sleeps on her back, prefers med-firm or firm. her gentleman companion says he's comfortable on whatever. while they were moving in together I bought them a zinus, warning them that it would break down fairly quickly and need to be replaced, and that it would be a pain when it did. the time has come.

she's up every night in serious pain, and sometimes doesn't bother trying to sleep at all. her job is very difficult and both emotionally and physically demanding, especially during covid. I don't feel like I can waste her time with a bunch of returns or DIYing something, though the zippered mattresses with layers seem doable.

she's willing to spend up to $3500 and is interested in latex or a latex hybrid for its lifespan. I'd like to avoid memory foam and memory foam hybrids because if the next mattress sags within five years I'm going to turn into the Joker.

currently looking at the Alexander nest hybrid or an Ikea hesstun mattress+good latex topper, since we live fairly close to an Ikea and a return would plausibly be easier than dealing with a mattress company.
can anyone point me in the right direction, or confirm my instincts?

 The pillows are flexible and easy to arrange to make up for it’s defects. And since they are real down I sink into them comfortably when I sleep on my side.

I’m still planning on a new mattress (top contenders are Tempurpedic Pro-Adapt Medium, Oceana Hybrid, Serra iComfort. I also love the Tuft and Needle after sleeping on one a few times, but I’m worried it wouldn’t hold up and I think I need a hybrid.) But the pillows made such a big difference. I hope this can help someone who is waiting on the right mattress

I slept like a baby (also rare!)  it isn't a super-deep mattress, so normal sheets fit, and the full-sized comforter isn't too short. On other beds that I have, because the mattresses are so tall (deep or super-deep pockets), the top sheets, blankets, and comforters are always too short. This mattress doesn't have that challenge, but has a better feel than those expensive deep or super-deep mattresses.  I wasn't sure what to expect with a mattress of this cost

FANCY Mattress that is super comfortable!!!

 This mattress is being charged into battle with inadequate armor!  So my mattress did not beat the odds and the box was punctured along the way. The plastic covering the mattress was no defense either. Large black spots were on the mattress cover when we unpacked it, probably where it was dragged across some dirty floor. Yuck

 This mattress is very heavy, and it ships in a giant cardboard box with little protection. The surface area of this queen mattress is gigantic, and this heavy mattress is going to get tossed, thrown, poked, and tumbled along the journey to reach my house. This mattress is being charged into battle with inadequate armor!  So my mattress did not beat the odds and the box was punctured along the way.  It has one more advantage, I have serious trouble sleeping on any position other than my back. I was a side sleeper before I got really heavy, and sometimes I like to try that way. On my firm medium I can't do it for long the stress on my middle is too much. This medium is softer and lets my side sink in so I can side sleep, but is not so soft as to hurt my back when back sleeping

  I bought my first Tempur-Pedic about 4 years ago, and it was after testing a number of mattresses. I slept or rested on a dozen or more in one store alone, and spent almost all day on a Saturday doing a half hour or more on each. I was fortunate, because my back had been hurt by cheap hotel beds that were too soft, and my own bed that was inner spring and had a large depression no matter how it was flipped. The back issue was fortunate because a ton of memory foam mattresses by named companies were for sale and they boasted ridicuous list prices

The best foam mattress out there bar none, heads above the cheapies.  If you can afford it get this, your sleep is key to living

Bought this from somewhere else, not Amazon. This gets very hot overnight. You can clearly feel the temperature difference between the mattress and body vs. duvet and body

 I would make sure I can return this mattress, for a minimal cost, before I buy it.  What alleviated the temperature issue was a natural wool topper, but the mattress is still not comfortable for me.
