I’m currently sleeping on the 25+ year old mattress that I was conceived on. As you can imagine I’m very excited to graduate from this one for multiple reasons. 

After trying out a handful of different mattresses and understanding the ridiculous prices of some, I’ve come to the conclusions that 1) I prefer a medium/firm bed, and 2) I’m poor. I visited IKEA today and found the $500 Heston mattress (queen size). Curious if anyone has any experience with it, how it holds up, or any advice whatsoever. Thanks in advance!

<p>Edit: I’m a 5’8” 160 lb male, and I’ll be sleeping in this mattress with my wonderful and tiny 5’0 girlfriend. We tend to sleep on our sides and stomachs.</p>

my mother has severe spinal stenosis (several discs have broken down, she's had rods and screws installed with little benefit, as well as a torn glute repair. take care of your spines, kids.) she's 56, ~155, and sleeps on her back, prefers med-firm or firm. her gentleman companion says he's comfortable on whatever. while they were moving in together I bought them a zinus, warning them that it would break down fairly quickly and need to be replaced, and that it would be a pain when it did. the time has come.

she's up every night in serious pain, and sometimes doesn't bother trying to sleep at all. her job is very difficult and both emotionally and physically demanding, especially during covid. I don't feel like I can waste her time with a bunch of returns or DIYing something, though the zippered mattresses with layers seem doable.

she's willing to spend up to $3500 and is interested in latex or a latex hybrid for its lifespan. I'd like to avoid memory foam and memory foam hybrids because if the next mattress sags within five years I'm going to turn into the Joker.

currently looking at the Alexander nest hybrid or an Ikea hesstun mattress+good latex topper, since we live fairly close to an Ikea and a return would plausibly be easier than dealing with a mattress company.
can anyone point me in the right direction, or confirm my instincts?

I haven't slept this good in years

 The best I was able to do before this mattress was a Tuft & Needle memory foam mattress with a Sealy mattress topper on top. This Tempur-pedic is, so far, a bit better than that setup. I'm sort of at this in-between, "getting used to a new mattress" time but I still have to give the mattress four stars because I no longer wake up with sore knees and hips when laying on my side for long periods of time.  I will be back to update after a few more weeks with this mattress

 At first, I thought it was going to be too firm, but once you are in it for a bit, it starts to give more and is softer.  My back is usually uncomfortable in bed. Just left the Mattress Firm store, I'm going to get a Tempur Pedic proadapt medium,  out the door its going to be $3710.34,  mattress msrp is $3699 but there is a little discount for Presidents Day and I'm getting some 'free' accessories,  overall I'm very excited. I've had a shity mattress for a long time and my sleep has not been great, as well as I'm starting to have back pain.

is the poly-foam completely unnecessary? I put it there simply to protect the latex layer. If I go the 36ILD dunlop support that really close to the 35ILD talalay, at that point does that even make sense? probably not.

So, I need a SUPER SOFT mattress, because if it's too firm and there's too much pressure on my shoulders when I sleep on my side it causes pain and the numbness/tingling. I've tried the Purple 4", which was too firm, I've tried the Tempurpedic Cloud (too firm)..
