I’m currently sleeping on the 25+ year old mattress that I was conceived on. As you can imagine I’m very excited to graduate from this one for multiple reasons. 

After trying out a handful of different mattresses and understanding the ridiculous prices of some, I’ve come to the conclusions that 1) I prefer a medium/firm bed, and 2) I’m poor. I visited IKEA today and found the $500 Heston mattress (queen size). Curious if anyone has any experience with it, how it holds up, or any advice whatsoever. Thanks in advance!

my mother has severe spinal stenosis (several discs have broken down, she's had rods and screws installed with little benefit, as well as a torn glute repair. take care of your spines, kids.) she's 56, ~155, and sleeps on her back, prefers med-firm or firm. her gentleman companion says he's comfortable on whatever. while they were moving in together I bought them a zinus, warning them that it would break down fairly quickly and need to be replaced, and that it would be a pain when it did. the time has come.

she's up every night in serious pain, and sometimes doesn't bother trying to sleep at all. her job is very difficult and both emotionally and physically demanding, especially during covid. I don't feel like I can waste her time with a bunch of returns or DIYing something, though the zippered mattresses with layers seem doable.

she's willing to spend up to $3500 and is interested in latex or a latex hybrid for its lifespan. I'd like to avoid memory foam and memory foam hybrids because if the next mattress sags within five years I'm going to turn into the Joker.

currently looking at the Alexander nest hybrid or an Ikea hesstun mattress+good latex topper, since we live fairly close to an Ikea and a return would plausibly be easier than dealing with a mattress company.
can anyone point me in the right direction, or confirm my instincts?

I ended up buying the  Sleep EZ 360 Hybrid. I have been sleeping on it for a week and it is very comfortable. I got a split top, talalay medium/talalay firm. Have only tried out the medium for sleep but I can tell the difference between the two sides just laying on them for a bit

Mattress Analysis Paralysis - Help Please

  I started with the Nest medium insert which was too soft.  I tend to overheat and because the NHL has polyfoam in the quilting and above the coils, I sink in too much.  I then replaced the insert with soft Dunlop and removed the quilting.  I have slept much better but I know I can still sink down because of the polyfoam above the coils and probably because of the coils (thank you kindly for documenting this)

Hello folks! I was troubled by the recent influx of posts about the Nest ASH sagging within 30 days of purchase. I wanted to get a Firm ASH myself, so I decided to do some digging. 

Short version: They changed the coils without updating the website to reflect this, and their sales staff (two different people) told me that the ASH uses the Legett and Platt Quantum Edge even though it (currently) does not.

I called Nest and asked what coil system was used in the ASH, and how many coils were in a queen. I was told it uses the Leggett and Platt Quantum Edge coil system and it has 816 coils. I then asked if it was the Quantum Edge with additional center 1/3 support, and was told no. I immediately new something was wrong, as I knew the Quantum Edge Queen has 789 coils, not 816.

I went to on Leggett and Platt's website and looked up the Quantum Edge. Here is the [spec sheet](https://beddingcomponents.com/document/load/quantum-edge-product-sheet.pdf).  This is confirmed in the spec sheet, which confirms 789 coils. 

I called Leggett and Platt to ask them if they had a Quantum Edge model with 816 coils and was told no. They went on to say that they do create special customized models for some vendors which are not listed on the website, and they did not know if Nest was getting a customized model, I would have to ask Nest about that. 

I called back Nest and got the same girl as earlier! I told her Leggett and Platt don't make an 816 coil system, and that I wanted to confirm the coil count and the model of the coil system used. She said she's getting "conflicting information" from her computer system, as she does see that the 789 coil Leggett and Platt is used, as well as the 816 coil unit she had told me about. She said she would get back to me via email, and I gave her my email address. 

I got an email from someone else at Nest 30 minutes later that said the following:

*Leggett and Platt have a coil shortage at the moment so we have opted to use a similar system from R&amp;S. There are a few more coils, 816 in a queen, however the gauge and design are pretty much identical. Sorry for the confusion my friend. Let me know if you have any more questions!*

There you have it. Nest changed the coil system without updating their website and their sales team still believes that the unit is created by Leggett and Platt, even though it is not. 

I have never heard of R&amp;S, and a google search didn't give me a ton of information to go off of. I found an [article from 2015](https://roselawgroupreporter.com/2015/05/phoenix-mattress-company-opens-9m-manufacturing-plant/) stating *"R&amp;S Mattress and it's online counterpart Brooklyn Bedding* are opening a 9 million dollar factory in Arizona". So it appears that R&amp;S and Brooklyn Bedding are the same company. This was further confirmed when I found the R&amp;S Mattress [twitter account](https://twitter.com/rsmattressstore?lang=en). That account lists their homepage as [rsmattress.com](www.rsmattress.com), which redirects you to the Brooklyn Beding homepage. I'm not sure when R&amp;S Mattress dropped the R&amp;S Name to become Brooklyn Bedding, but they are certainly the same company. Since the "R&amp;S" coil system is a Brooklyn Bedding coil system. This implies (but does not confirm) that the "R&amp;S" coil system being used in the nest ASH is the Ascension X coil system from the Brooklyn Bedding line of beds. 

According to Nest, nothing else in the ASH has changed except for the coil system. This implies that the recent issues people have reported with very early sagging at the coils / foam above the coils, super soft coil systems, overall lack of support, inconsistency between what they tried in the Nest Showroom and what they actually got delivered, and very noticeable motion transfer, are all tied to the R&amp;S coil unit.

Seeing as the Nest ASH was nearly universally praised, and now we only hear complaints about it, I would be cautious if purchasing this bed until we know Nest is using Leggett and Platt coil systems again, if they go back to using it at all. Nest is partnered with Brooklyn Bedding, so the R&amp;S Coil system is almost certainly cheaper than the Leggett and Platt, so I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck with the Brooklyn Bedding / R&amp;S coil system.

I also told them of the recent influx of negative ASH posts and asked them if they were only using R&amp;S systems, or a combination of L&amp;P and R&amp;S, and if they are using a combination, what percentage of mattresses were getting each coil system, and how can people ensure that they get a Leggett and Platt. I have not gotten a response yet but will edit this post when I do.

Edit 2: Got another response from Nest 
I do not have the spec sheet for the R&amp;S coil system used in the ASH, and they did not tell me if they were using both Leggett and Platt and R&amp;S or just R&amp;S, but their response does leans towards them only using R&amp;S coils.

They don&#39;t give a time frame on how long they have been using R&amp;S, but it looks like it&#39;s at least a couple months, and potentially for up to 6-9 months. I recall reading about the mattress coil shortage getting really bad around September or October of last year, so the switch may have been made that long ago. Maybe it isn&#39;t just the coils causing the recent issues? Maybe they are also cheaping out on the foam layer above the coils but not saying anything about that? 

No matter how long they&#39;ve been using the R&amp;S coils, they never updated their website, and the sales staff still tell potential customers that the coil unit is Leggett and Platt&#39;s Quantum Edge. At best, this is false advertising with no malicious intent behind it. At worse, they are intentionally misleading customers with the coil unit change, and there may also be a change in the foam above the coils and below the comfort layer (but to be clear, they say there is not a change to that foam).

Edit 5/7/21 - All mentions of Leggett and Platt and Quantum Edge have been removed from Nest&#39;s webpage for the Alexander Signature Hybrid. It appears we got their attention. I still have not received the spec sheet for R&amp;S coil system, but was told it was coming soon (it sounds like they are in the process of getting one made), and it would be emailed to me. I will share it if/when I get it.

PSA - Undocumented Nest ASH Change

I tried hybrid latex, and it was not for my wife and me; those who like latex will push you in that direction. 

What made it easier for me was I sent to a nest bedding showroom, Macy's, who has Savita in the showroom living spaces showroom for leading line brands S&F.

 What we got was terrific its a dense mattress with just enough give, a little bit of a memory foam feel, but you don't feel like quicksand it doesn't sleep hot, no motion transfer, it's that right balance for us. What we found is it's critical to get an adjustable base. An adjustable base changes the dynamic when it comes to sleep. Being able to get the mattress in the proper position is fantastic

 If you have any issues replacing them is very inexpensive. We call the adjustable base company and bought spare parts; they're sitting in my garage just in case anything ever went wrong the parts are all modular Plug and Play.

Hubby and I are combo sleepers.  We tend to start to sleep on our side and end up on our backs (most likely because our current mattress makes our shoulders hurt).  We have been mattress shopping and love the Purple 4, the Aierloom Luxetop Plush, and the Tempurpedic Luxebreeze Soft - however, the thought of spending $4-6k on pieces of foam/latex/whatever that may last less than 10 years seems crazy. Is there anything out there that feels as soft and supportive without the price tag?

I’m 5’5, 180s, with lower back issues and almost constant neck/shoulder tightness
Hubby is 6’4, 230s, no major issues

The other issue is that we are looking for a California king (what we currently have and are committed to that size), so that increases the cost.
