I’m currently sleeping on the 25+ year old mattress that I was conceived on. As you can imagine I’m very excited to graduate from this one for multiple reasons. 

After trying out a handful of different mattresses and understanding the ridiculous prices of some, I’ve come to the conclusions that 1) I prefer a medium/firm bed, and 2) I’m poor. I visited IKEA today and found the $500 Heston mattress (queen size). Curious if anyone has any experience with it, how it holds up, or any advice whatsoever. Thanks in advance!

<p>Edit: I’m a 5’8” 160 lb male, and I’ll be sleeping in this mattress with my wonderful and tiny 5’0 girlfriend. We tend to sleep on our sides and stomachs.</p>

my mother has severe spinal stenosis (several discs have broken down, she's had rods and screws installed with little benefit, as well as a torn glute repair. take care of your spines, kids.) she's 56, ~155, and sleeps on her back, prefers med-firm or firm. her gentleman companion says he's comfortable on whatever. while they were moving in together I bought them a zinus, warning them that it would break down fairly quickly and need to be replaced, and that it would be a pain when it did. the time has come.

she's up every night in serious pain, and sometimes doesn't bother trying to sleep at all. her job is very difficult and both emotionally and physically demanding, especially during covid. I don't feel like I can waste her time with a bunch of returns or DIYing something, though the zippered mattresses with layers seem doable.

she's willing to spend up to $3500 and is interested in latex or a latex hybrid for its lifespan. I'd like to avoid memory foam and memory foam hybrids because if the next mattress sags within five years I'm going to turn into the Joker.

currently looking at the Alexander nest hybrid or an Ikea hesstun mattress+good latex topper, since we live fairly close to an Ikea and a return would plausibly be easier than dealing with a mattress company.
can anyone point me in the right direction, or confirm my instincts?

 You do sink in just a little bit. The coils, as you can see, are individually wrapped, so while they will give you some really nice firm support and bounce to the mattress, they're going to move independently. It's not going to be the same steel coil in a spring mattress you might be thinking of. It's going to be better at isolating motion transfer than a traditional in a spring mattress would be

 However, there's really firm support from the coil base below that. I did a really nice job of keeping my hips from sinking too far into the mattress, keeping my spine aligned in a good position when I was on my back, really comfortable for back sleepers in my opinion. As I'm changing positions, I don't feel stuck in the mattress at all. I think there's really great bounce thanks to that pocketed coil support layer below

 I'm going to put it through a few tests, tell you what the mattress is made of. At the end, I'll give you my pros and cons. To start out, let's jump in and talk about what it feels like. The first thing I want to talk about with the feel of the Silk and Snow Hybrid Mattress is the firmness level or support level of the mattress

 For stomach sleepers, I find that a mattress in this firmness range is really great. I generally think that some sleepers are going to need to find really firm mattresses to keep their hips in line with their shoulders, keep their spine aligned in that good position. Again, back sleepers, stomach sleepers, I think you're going to like the firm support level here on the Silk & Snow Hybrid. I think side sleepers are going to want to find something with a plusher feel so you can sink deeper into bed

Silk and Snow Hybrid Mattress Review - Is It Right For You?

Full refund expected, no complaints here. I have just pulled the trigger on the Silk&Snow Hybrid mattress, in the hopes of getting that 'sinking in feeling' on the top, but with more lumbar / torso support overnight.

 My lower back is going to be supported any position. So in that regard, even though it is a medium-firm feel, it's a very versatile mattress. In terms of sleeping hot, you're not going to sink into the mattress too much, so there's not going to be much material to surround you to trap any heat, and I found the top to be very breathable. It's a nice stretch fabric cover, very breathable at that top layer

 A lot of people don't like mattresses where you kind of get up to go to the bathroom, and you get out of bed, and it feels like you're going to slip off the mattress. With this one, you can sit or sleep right up to the edge and maximize the use of the mattress. It's a very well thought-out design, and again, keep in mind, all these materials are sourced in Canada, so if you're buying this product, you're really supporting Canadian companies. Overall, I give the Silk and Snow Hybrid a medium-firm feel

 Underneath that, you have a four-pound density layer of foam, and that is a pretty dense foam layer, so they really only had to use one foam layer because it's really good quality. Underneath that, you'll find a pocketed coil system, and when you get into the king size, you have over 1,200 individually wrapped coils, and those coils all operate independent of one another, so there's not going to be as much motion transfer. There's not going to be the push-pull because as one coil goes down, it won't affect the other coil. In addition, the middle of the mattress is actually zoned for more support, so you're going to get better support for your lower back, and conversely, the upper and lower half are a little bit softer, so you're going to get more pressure relief for your shoulders
