I’m currently sleeping on the 25+ year old mattress that I was conceived on. As you can imagine I’m very excited to graduate from this one for multiple reasons. 

After trying out a handful of different mattresses and understanding the ridiculous prices of some, I’ve come to the conclusions that 1) I prefer a medium/firm bed, and 2) I’m poor. I visited IKEA today and found the $500 Heston mattress (queen size). Curious if anyone has any experience with it, how it holds up, or any advice whatsoever. Thanks in advance!

<p>Edit: I’m a 5’8” 160 lb male, and I’ll be sleeping in this mattress with my wonderful and tiny 5’0 girlfriend. We tend to sleep on our sides and stomachs.</p>

my mother has severe spinal stenosis (several discs have broken down, she's had rods and screws installed with little benefit, as well as a torn glute repair. take care of your spines, kids.) she's 56, ~155, and sleeps on her back, prefers med-firm or firm. her gentleman companion says he's comfortable on whatever. while they were moving in together I bought them a zinus, warning them that it would break down fairly quickly and need to be replaced, and that it would be a pain when it did. the time has come.

she's up every night in serious pain, and sometimes doesn't bother trying to sleep at all. her job is very difficult and both emotionally and physically demanding, especially during covid. I don't feel like I can waste her time with a bunch of returns or DIYing something, though the zippered mattresses with layers seem doable.

she's willing to spend up to $3500 and is interested in latex or a latex hybrid for its lifespan. I'd like to avoid memory foam and memory foam hybrids because if the next mattress sags within five years I'm going to turn into the Joker.

currently looking at the Alexander nest hybrid or an Ikea hesstun mattress+good latex topper, since we live fairly close to an Ikea and a return would plausibly be easier than dealing with a mattress company.
can anyone point me in the right direction, or confirm my instincts?

I picked the Cocoon because many reviews said it was comfortable and does a good job at cooling. I stay hot 100% of the time which is why the cooling tech drew me towards the Cocoon. I normally sweat in my sleep and i hope this mattress helps. But i was wonder if there is a general concensus on a mattress protector that will not effect the cooling effect of the mattress?

Great Mattress

 I decided to look for a mattress labeled "soft" and found this one on Amazon. First, when unpackaging the mattress, I noticed immediately it didn't have a strong chemical smell my other foam mattresses had the first day or two. Second, I am no longer experiencing the pain in my hip and shoulder that caused me to look for a new mattress in the first place. Yay! Yet it is fully supportive and I don't sink into it in a way that makes it hard to get up

 Third, it doesn't retain heat the way my previous mattresses did. I'm no longer waking up feeling like I'm baking in an oven. This was a great purchase and a real bargain (I loved a Tempurpedic Cloud I tried at a store but the $3300 price tag was a non-starter) and I highly recommend it.

 Second, I am no longer experiencing the pain in my hip and shoulder that caused me to look for a new mattress in the first place. Yay!  When I slept on the mattress, it was way too firm. Although I ordered the firm mattress, I have two others, so I know what it is supposed to feel like. It should have a 2-inch top layer of memory foam. In this case, that layer felt like it was compressed and did not respond like typical memory foam
