I’m currently sleeping on the 25+ year old mattress that I was conceived on. As you can imagine I’m very excited to graduate from this one for multiple reasons. 

After trying out a handful of different mattresses and understanding the ridiculous prices of some, I’ve come to the conclusions that 1) I prefer a medium/firm bed, and 2) I’m poor. I visited IKEA today and found the $500 Heston mattress (queen size). Curious if anyone has any experience with it, how it holds up, or any advice whatsoever. Thanks in advance!

<p>Edit: I’m a 5’8” 160 lb male, and I’ll be sleeping in this mattress with my wonderful and tiny 5’0 girlfriend. We tend to sleep on our sides and stomachs.</p>

my mother has severe spinal stenosis (several discs have broken down, she's had rods and screws installed with little benefit, as well as a torn glute repair. take care of your spines, kids.) she's 56, ~155, and sleeps on her back, prefers med-firm or firm. her gentleman companion says he's comfortable on whatever. while they were moving in together I bought them a zinus, warning them that it would break down fairly quickly and need to be replaced, and that it would be a pain when it did. the time has come.

she's up every night in serious pain, and sometimes doesn't bother trying to sleep at all. her job is very difficult and both emotionally and physically demanding, especially during covid. I don't feel like I can waste her time with a bunch of returns or DIYing something, though the zippered mattresses with layers seem doable.

she's willing to spend up to $3500 and is interested in latex or a latex hybrid for its lifespan. I'd like to avoid memory foam and memory foam hybrids because if the next mattress sags within five years I'm going to turn into the Joker.

currently looking at the Alexander nest hybrid or an Ikea hesstun mattress+good latex topper, since we live fairly close to an Ikea and a return would plausibly be easier than dealing with a mattress company.
can anyone point me in the right direction, or confirm my instincts?

 So, first off it's going to ship to you completely free it'll arrive in a big box. That'S around four feet tall! All you do is drag that box into your home, open it up, dump out all the contents, rip off all the plastic and unroll it onto your foundation. It'S a super easy unboxing process. It practically takes no time at all and it's actually pretty fun

 The edge support on the original purple is pretty dang good. The old model used to have just okay edge support, but the new one incorporated kind of a foam border along the edges, so that has really improved the edge support on this particular mattress. We don't think you're going to be falling off this bed anytime soon, if your partner happens to be a major bed. Hog same goes for motion isolation, that proprietary material also does a pretty good job at absorbing cross-mattress movement

So if you're a light sleeper and your partner happens to wake up in the middle of the night, often their movement shouldn't really travel across the bed and wake you up. Temperature regulation on this bed is also really good

 But then, when you go to switch to your side, that material conforms nicely to the shape of your shoulders and hips, and you get a good amount of pressure. Relief for those areas in terms of firmness, the original purple mattress clocks in at about a proper medium on our scale, so it should work for all sleeper types back side, stomach and combination. Keep in mind, though, that firmness is a pretty subjective thing. That'S mostly going to depend on how much you weigh so heavier people like myself might find it to be a bit softer than a medium, because they're going to sink in more to its top layer, whereas more petite people like d-lo behind the camera might find it To be a bit firmer than that, because they're going to lay more on top dude, i sink in i'm six feet tall dude i'm and i bought yeah

 After numerous FedEx delays, each piece arrived on different trucks on different days!  Assembly of the bed frame and headboard was easy (tools required were included!) once the bad was opened, the Mattress took shape. I was expecting it to have a strong odor. NOT THE CASE! We were able to use the bed the next night! Bed Frame is sturdy and mattress is supportive, very comfortable, relieved stiff back and pain. Truly a great value for the price! Would buy it again!

Great so far

I purchased my mattress about 16 months ago, and it is already completely losing structure to the point that it causes severe back pain. If you look at my picture you can see two bottles of equal weight on two different parts of the bed, and even though they only weigh a couple of pounds you can see one where it hasn't collapsed (yet) on the left, and the other on the right where you can see that any back support has failed all the way down to the coils.  After doing some searching, I've read that purple switched to cheaper materials to increase profits, and many other people are having the same problem! (so take old positive reviews with a grain of salt)  What's worse is they try every which way not to honor the warranty (seriously before you buy, read all the loopholes in their warranty policy on their website that make sure they don't have to honor it)  Do not buy a purplebed if you don't want to find yourself in a year having spent thousands of dollars and be out a bed. It is a poorly made bed and if you look beyond their quirky marketing you will see they are just another company with sleazy business practices

This is an over-priced, “next-level” version of a foam “water raft” or blow up mattress… They certainly have some EXCELLENT marketing in their arsenal! Apparently I fell for it!.  I was under the impression that Purple “bends over backwards” to make their customers satisfied… extra long trial periods… returns etc

 I’ve seen commercials where you have a whole 12 months to try it out. I bought it through my Amazon prime… and just made the mistake of assuming they would offer the same return policy as the Purple company?!?  My wife is a lot younger than me… doesn’t have any back problems… she refuses to sleep in our master bedroom because of the Purple mattress. She just can’t sleep on it. She hurts all over in the morning so gave up a long time before I did

I bought this mattress based on the rave reviews from people with the same chronic back problems I suffer from. I had such high hopes that, finally, a mattress company would actually have something to provide me some relief. And with a reasonable return policy to help make sure it’s right for me.  I gave the mattress a long trial period… I gave it a chance… to see if it would be better than my $2000+ Sleep Number bed
