HP Reverb G2 vs HTC Vive Pro 2 Headset

I really like the way the audio speakers sit away from my ear; it's gives you great, immersive sound without covering your ear completely, making you blind AND deaf to your surroundings. Head tracking seems just the tiniest bit laggy compared to a base station setup, but definitely tolerable (my graphics card is an RTX 2060).

Overall I'd recommend this headset for a good, "true" mid-range PCVR experience.

It's just that this headset has so much more potential that is missed than hit. so let's just do it. I'm going to break down this review into multiple...

Most of you won't have an issue, but if your head is on the large or small size, it's definitely something to consider.

HTC has released at least 5. (I’ll let those more knowledgeable than me explain who should get the most credit for the original Vive.)

Unfortunately, the museum is reproduced with such low-quality assets and shoddy coding that it's nearly worthless. The layout of the museum is recreated with very simple geometry and textures, making it feel like a Second Life environment. Crowd sounds abruptly start and stop as you move around, breaking all immersion. Some of the assets of the individual exhibits are too blurry to read, or flicker because of poorly defined geometry

Resolution/overall clarity is no contest though. The Vive Pro 2 is **crisp.** It's like not knowing you needed glasses and then putting on a pair for the first time. It's just immediately naturely

Valve Index: Best controllers and visual/tactile comfort, very good valve, was a bitch to order from Australia

I read at least 100 reviews before taking the plunge. I was very disappointed. The improved resolution reduces the "screen door effect" somewhat, but in terms of overall image and clarity, the Vive Pro 2 was no better than my Rift S (which I do super sample at 1.7)

Having recently purchased a Quest 2, it's absolutely infuriating how good this $300 device is. This is coming from someone who has used the Index, HP Reverb G2 and Vive Pro 2. Why can't any of these companies release something that is at least competitive? Index is $1000 with less then stellar visuals, Vive Pro 2 is even more expensive with easily the worst optics of any VR headset I have ever used and the HP Reverb G2 is so frustratingly close to being awesome. It's tracking just kind of kills it in a lot of situations

Should I have to do that for something that cost $800? nah bruh. If I had paid $500 or I could see that. Probably going to return. Friend is bringing his 3080 over later this week to see if it changes my mind

What is holding back VR right now is the power to run it at 120fps (better framerate means less induced vertigo) so what with the scalpers making it hard to upgrade these days it's a tricky time to get into VR. So, I've been hanging onto my Vive even though its like seeing everything through a screendoor. Getting a VR headset with the best image quality is a must (Index is good [controllers are very attractive choice], HP Reverb G2 better visual quality, Pimax is good).

I can't figure out how to enable that. I tried capping the frame rate in NVIDIA control panel, as well as setting throttling to 45fps (11ms extra prediction) in SteamVR settings. But neither seems to have any effect. Is there a way to force the automatic throttling I was getting when using the 1080 TI?

After spending a few days of troubleshooting and wanting to pull my hair out, I fixed a lot of the issues which ultimately came down to WMR not supporting the newer AMD motherboards with gen4 PCIE. Switching from gen4 to gen3 solved a lot of issues, but some persisted, enough to still frustrate me. After beating a glitchy HL:Alyx, I boxed my HMD up and sat it in the corner for about 7 months until my buddy got a Quest 2 and wanted to play some games with me. I gave it another shot, why not

This is where the G2 falls apart. The top strap has a tendency to pluck and catch my hair when adjusting it, and I absolutely hate, beyond words, the velcro straps. Getting it into the correct position on my head is an absolute nightmare, and I have a method of adjusting the fit per eye (I dial in the clarity on my left eye, then I do my right eye) and doing this while the headset is loose on the G2 is impossible, where as on the Index I use my hand to push it against my face, and I use my other hand once my eyes are dialed in to screw it into place. Being able to do this in one motion is crucial, and it's impossible with the G2 as it has three velcro straps for adjustment that require both of your hands, and multiple motions to adjust

Also, I can't get an ideal fit, which results in the headset being prone to moving around during intense gameplay in games such as Blade & Sorcery (thus losing the focal sweet spot). - Not a weakness of the headset, but HTC has yet to come up with a competitor to the Valve Index controller which themselves are far from perfect Despite all the flaws, this is still my most recommended VR headset for the clarity, addons, and because I only recommend SteamVR headsets due to Valve Index controller compatibility and SteamVR base stations which are as good as tracking gets right now. Also, despite all the flaws, I still consider VR gaming to be a must-have, and it is the way I'd want to play most of my favorite games if it were possible

- You love the HP reverb 2 and valve index **but** want to loose the chains and go wireless without having to buy a Facebook data mining product.

The difference becomes clear once you put on the Live Pro 2. its 5k screen offers 2448 by 2448 pixels per eye a huge sleep ahead of the 1440 by 1600 p...

-Controllers aren't as comfortable to use as the Oculus controllers I have with my Quest. The HP ones are very unwieldy.

Like the rest of the headset, HTC's controllers are the same gloriously big chunkers we've had from the start, only now in a blue to match the headset. They work great, and the batteries last plenty long, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eager to pick up my Valve Knuckles to use them instead.

I've always found the the SDE on the VP1 pretty much disappears once I'm actually playing a game in any case.
