The suction is definitely not as powerful as described. Ordinary lint is not picked up no matter what level is set. The vacuum is not self-propelled as my old one was. It takes strength to move the vacuum over a low pile carpet

I would recommend buying extra filters because, as you can see in my third photo, it traps a lot of dust. That thing was pristine white when I started (testament to the suction power and filtering system of this vacuum). I do believe you can wash these things out, but I wouldn't recommend doing that. Just keep a couple of extras handy

The suction and airflow at the cleaner head are some of the highest I have ever seen and the units are quite well built for the price especially. If you have long hair in the house, definitely cut it off the brush roll every so often. At around 20 pounds, this unit is decently heavy and some users complain about a short hose, but the weight has never been an issue for me, you get used to the hose, and the incredible cleaning performance makes up for the drawbacks in my opinion. Then just to be even more fabulous it wipes the dust from the floors leaving behind a fresh, clean & cared for looking floor. If you've ever had wood floors, especially real wood floors but laminate as well, you know sometimes they can look just a little faded or just sort of lack the luster associated with the look wood floors. The unit lacks accessories for ease of cleaning of bare floors. If only it came with an additional extension hose long enough with a wide-mouth-head tool for bare floors. My 2 biggest irritation are what I consider to be engineering defects and should be corrected: 1) Exhaust vent is located on left side of unit forcing the hot air down on the side of the unit onto the floor blowing and scattering the actual pet hair and dirt that I am attempting to pick up with the unit! This is especially annoying along a wall where most of the pet hairs are usually gather in dust-bunnies. Because of this side vent, the air bounces off the walls which furthers scatters any dirt and hair alone the walls! Very annoying!!! The vented exhaust should be forced upward and in front of the unit! 2) The electrical cord exits at the back and bottom of the unit

Shark does kinda blow it here on the inability to keep all the included tools stored on-board the vacuum, which for such a well executed device in almost every other way, it leaves one scratching wondering how they missed something so obvious? The Lift - Away model I purchased came with the powered brush roll, a nifty piece of simple engineering that uses all that suction the Shark has on tap to pull hard enough that it spins a sort of turbine inspired fan wheel inside the powered brush roller body that spins the 4" wide brush via a belt attached to the turbine fan. Along with the Shark exclusive Lift-Away cannister feature, this combo tackles stairs in a manner the Dyson simply cannot do. The only drawback to this otherwise excellent addition is the 4" wide brushroll, which much like its big brother main brushroll, they could both benefit greatly by the addition of an extra 2-3 inches. The cord on this is a little shorter than my old one, but I can adjust to that. The long tube is amazing and the wheels are quiet and soft on the tile/hardwood. The front also got an overhaul and now with the new click mechanism to open/close the bag compartment it is much better (this was broken on my old vacuum), attachments are either hiding or clipped on better that on the old one.

It's also easier to clean out the canister. I also like that it has a light that tells you when the brush roller is on, which was harder to tell and more frustrating with the Dyson because I would think I shut it off and end up shooting crumbs everywhere because the brush was on on hard surfaces.
