The Hoka One One Mach 4 impressed us with its ability to provide lots of cushioning while still responsive. With its low weight, long runs felt awesome and left us with much less fatigue than some other competition. Their Profly compound felt responsive, and the cushioning never felt like it bottomed out or created a dull or unenergetic sensation. A wider platform and ground feel due to a 5-millimeter heel-to-toe drop makes this shoe feel lively and confident. A thinner upper design creates a sensation of no upper and your foot and foam all as one unit. Even in temperatures reaching 100 degrees, we felt cool and experienced less sweating than other models in this weight range.
We did not experience any durability issues with this model, but the outsole has zero rubber and only exposed foam. This exposed foam did not degrade during our testing, but we do not expect this to last as long as a more rugged rubber outsole. This would not be the first model we would suggest to those looking for maximum support and stability, but we don't think the low drop and weight should deter you. This shoe is for those looking for additional comfort in a responsive shoe. If you want to give the Hoka cushioning a try but feel concerned about it being overkill, we recommend starting with this model because we also found it extremely fast and light.

2 ounces and 232 grams. Now, with those specs out of the way. Let'S talk about what it was like to run in this shoe, and this shoe has been fantastic for me to run. I'Ve just been enjoying this thoroughly from the moment

 That is a rubberized, eva foam. That'S a little bit firmer and gives you a little bit more bounce as you're pushing off. As you are running on the outsole, there is no rubber to protect the outsole, but it's that rubberized eva compound that you can run directly on and you got a little window in here. So you can see that softer layer kind of poking through in the upper

 Maybe i'm doing some strides, maybe i'm doing a fart look. The shoe still feels locked down enough where i don't feel like i'm slipping around or sliding, and i feel snug enough to be able to run quickly in the shoe. So it's just one of those things that it rises to the occasion in terms of fit. No matter what and in terms of wear and tear uh, the upper feels absolutely brand new and even just giving it a little bit of the smell test, which i think is a way to test some of the breathability of the upper

Mach 4 After 100 Miles

 The upper of the mach 4 is an engineered mesh. It'S fairly breathable, pretty soft too. In the mid foot. We don't have any overlays, although the fit doesn't suffer because of that, and if we move to the back, the heel counter is very sturdy

 I know there are other shoes that need a full review before this one, but, quite frankly, i didn't care just wanted to run in the mach 4, which is probably a hint about how i feel about this wonderful shoe and we're going to talk about all that Today, but first of course, the running footage hit it rube, [, Music, ], so [, Music ]. If you're unfamiliar with how i structure my full reviews, let me give you a rundown. First we're going to go over the specs. Then we're going to talk about the upper, the midsole, the outsole, the price of the shoe and then my conclusions on the shoe and that's where i'm gon na rate it out of five stars

 But what i will say is that hoka sizing can be a little bit wonky, sometimes so, if you're able to maybe try this on at your local running, store and purchase it there or if you want to order, maybe two sizes and return the one that doesn't Fit that might be your best option. It'S just sometimes they can be a little bit funny. But for me this, this worked. It was true to size

 Take a breather. Take a breather here, 9.6 for the lockdown. This shoe fits like a glove

. Now for the fit and the comfort fit. I went true to size for the length of the shoe no issues at all, especially with this heel pocket and this heel counter again the lock down unbelievable uh, but for the uh width of the shoe, i'm gon na say if you prefer a little more room For your toes to splay out, you might want to get the wide option. Okay, it's not an overly roomy toe box, but i personally for me: i prefer a snug fit over too much room in my toe box um, especially for if i want to go a little faster, um so anyway, but keep that in mind the toe box

 So anyway, the lockdown, unbelievable and my overall score for the upper is is very high because it just fits like a glove through this entire upper um and okay. We, we do actually have one drawback for the upper i'll, come back to it here in one. Second, in a minute here now, moving on to this pro fly, midsole foam. So this bright, yellow foam here just under the uh, the upper is softer

 I don't know what they did. I don't know how they made so much progress from this guy to this guy. So anyway, the lockdown, unbelievable and my overall score for the upper is is very high because it just fits like a glove through this entire upper um and okay. We, we do actually have one drawback for the upper i'll, come back to it here in one

 Much like the Torrent 2, the upper materials used in the Mach 4 are soft and forgiving while still providing a precise foot hold.  The layer closer to the foot is a softer material with the outer layer being slightly firmer to provide a more efficient, springier take off. Additionally, the heel of the Mach 4 is softer while the toe is firmer, with the idea being that you have a soft landing without compromising energy return on takeoff. When it first debuted, ProFly made for a stiff, somewhat damp, and somewhat uninspiring ride (again, at least in my opinion). But in recent Hoka models, this has changed, creating a whole line of more performance-oriented shoes, from everyday uptempo trainers like the Mach 4 to full-on race shoes like the Carbon X

 Dry roads are a luxury of the Gunnison winter and I would often find myself running on icy, snowy, and/or slushy roads. When these kinds of varied conditions appeared throughout the winter, the outsole of the Mach 4 was a nonstarter. 60 oz — Hoka One One Mach 4244 g / 8.60 oz — Brooks Launch 8252 g / 8.90 oz — Hoka One One Clifton 8The Mach 4 is not the lightest shoe on this list nor the absolute lightest on the market, but it probably has one of the better cushion-to-weight ratios. In my experience, the Mach 4 feels light enough for faster workouts while still having enough cushion for runs around 20 miles, something that can’t necessarily be said for a shoe like the Brooks Launch 8 or Hoka Rincon 3 (at least in my experience)

 You still got a little bit of suede here, but it's not actually stitched into the top of the tongue. Very strange, almost like a deconstructed type version of the original reminds me a little bit of some of those virtual nike off-whites that you can pick up where they've got over-done stitching and pieces taken away and stuff. It does feel a little bit like that. Yeah that suede pull tab here is barely stitched in

9 ounces. So just a very slight discrepancy, but about 10 gram discrepancy between the left and right shoe, which is a bit strange, not sure where the extra weight comes from, maybe some extra upper here or there i'm not sure, but it's a bit weird. This is a shoe. I picked up with my own cash

 So i can have heard my plea made some changes here to the upper that improves it. You'Ve got these lace loops now on the lateral one medial sides of the upper improve the upper fit. They kind of grip around the top of the foot now and removed completely that lacing issue that i had in the original version. I literally put the shoe on cinched it up tied the laces put them under the convenient little flap here, and i was ready to go

 How does this new iteration of the endorphin pro hold up? [ Music ] weight wise? It'S almost exactly the same as the v1. I have a uk size 11 here, which is a us12 comes in at 251 grams, which is 8.9 ounces. So just a very slight discrepancy, but about 10 gram discrepancy between the left and right shoe, which is a bit strange, not sure where the extra weight comes from, maybe some extra upper here or there i'm not sure, but it's a bit weird

They materials is too easily damaged by running and it’s like the bottom of the shoe is almost made of low grade styrofoam. 

Weak material quality

After returning my Saucony Endorphin Pro 2’s, I decided to splurge on these and pay the extra cost….for looks 😂.

  They run slightly smaller and it is enough of a difference that i can’t wear them without nailing my toes. I could go a half size up, but then they are likely slightly too big for what i like. Sent the last pair back. Ugh

Runs small

 Now, of course, there's that signature, s-curve, uh s-curve uh carbon fiber plate inside that midsole, i don't think i opened no. This is the speed okay. I did not open up the endorphin pro last year. Maybe we're going to have to do that at some point, but bottom line, contoured, eva sockliner, very comfortable inside the shoe - felt great uh up against my foot

1. It'S an ounce lighter, that's unbelievable. I mean that's uh. Any carbon fiber plate shoe in my size that doesn't break into the sixes is not great, and this one is almost under six

 In fact, we got more snow over the weekend up in the mountains, so more patience waiting for those mountains to open up for the summer running uh. But nonetheless, here we go first impressions 10 miles today: seven uh, i believe about 715 a mile. So this is a there's, a marathon racing shoe carbon fiber plate in there. Is this the second? No

I do a lot of reading on shoe reviews and as far as I can tell it comes down to the Saucony Endorphin pro vs the vaporfly (at least out of the choices you listed). The Endorphin series was a game changer for them and it does a lot of things right. The main thing is the value of the shoe due to its comparatively lower price  and durability vs other super shoes like the vaporfly.

POLL: Which is the best running shoe - not considering price - performance only?

They fixed the heel on the Pro 2 vs. Pro 1. It is much better and will not result in slippage. Shoes is comfortable, fast, and responsive
