The Hisense 55U6G is the best 55 inch TV you can buy if you're on a budget. It's great and has features if you're looking for a TV to use with different content, from gaming to watching TV shows, and it performs well both in dark and bright environments. Its VA panel has a high native contrast ratio for deep blacks, and it also has a decent local dimming feature to improve the contrast. Although we tested the 65 inch version, the results are also valid for the 55 inch model.

It gets bright enough to fight glare even in well-lit rooms, and its reflection handling is decent. Although it's limited to a 60Hz panel with HDMI 2.0 bandwidth and lacks VRR support, you'll still appreciate its low input lag and quick response time for a smooth and responsive gaming experience. If you're the type of person to watch your favorite TV shows on cable boxes, it doesn't have issues upscaling lower-resolution content. If you stream your content, the Android TV offers a ton of streaming apps you can download, though unfortunately there are ads throughout the smart interface that can't be disabled. 

Unfortunately, it's not the best choice for wide seating arrangements because it has a narrow viewing angle and the image appears washed out from the sides. Also, its HDR performance is limited since its HDR peak brightness is just okay, and some highlights don't stand out. That being said, if this doesn't bother you, it's one of the best 55 inch TVs we've tested.

The best TV you can get for under $500 is the Hisense 55U6G. It's a great overall TV that's versatile for a variety of uses and environments. It displays deep blacks and has a decent local dimming feature that further deepens any blacks in the dark, making it an impressive choice for watching movies in dark rooms. If you prefer watching content in a bright room, visibility won't be an issue as it has great peak brightness to combat glare and decent reflection handling.

The built-in Android TV platform makes it easy to stream your favorite content. Sadly, it has a narrow viewing angle, and it isn't ideal for wide seating areas because the image looks inaccurate from the sides. You can get it in a variety of sizes, including a 50 inch model, if you want the best 50 inch TV under $500.

Good budget TV if it works

 Having Dolby Atmos is a joke on TV speakers but I'd say they're decent all things considered.  Overall it's not a bad TV. I certainly wouldn't buy it if it were more expensive, but considering how cheap it is, I'd still say give it a go if you're on the fence. Just be aware of the caveats before you dive in

Little Annoying things but otherwise good.

When it comes to larger purchases for the house I'm a bit of a researcher. I did some substantial compare and contrast when looking for a new tv for our bedroom and narrowed it down to a Hisense.  I'm very glad I came across the site that recommended this model. It wasn't quite the size I was looking for and it was not the newest edition to their line but the reviews were super consistent with very few negatives so I gave it a shot

  After all the work of picking the "right one" comes a bit of trepidation/doubt for me until I get it set up and plugged in. I've got to say all things considered I'm very happy with the purchase and have experienced no buyers remorse.  I only give it 4 stars because the user interface is not very friendly nor intuitive.  We only use it for our streaming services so after turning the set on it needs to "woken up" (I hit the "Prime button to do this) and then I need to change the input to our fire stick

It's a minimal inconvenience and one I might even be able to eliminate it if I spent an hour messing with settings.  I'm not exactly sure how that would happen as there are no on screen instructions and I don't feel like scouring the net for trouble shooting advice from other frustrated users but perhaps one day it'll seem like a good use of time

Lastly, the Roku interfase is bad and in attempt to make it easier to navigate the options to customize the TV are very basic as they seem to be more automatic than in other TV sets.

A low input lag is also important for a responsive feel when playing video games, and thankfully, this TV is great in this regard. The Hisense U6G is a great TV overall. It has a great response time, with a nearly flicker-free backlight and an optional black frame insertion feature. It's not as feature-rich as the more expensive models in Hisense's lineup, as it lacks any advanced gaming features like HDMI 2.1 or variable refresh rate (VRR) support, and it doesn't support eARC for lossless high-definition audio formats. If you don't care about those features, though, it's a great TV overall that should please most users.

 Today, we'll be doing a review of the Hisense U6G.

 We'll be evaluating it on our standardized test bench to see how it performs and if you

 This TV is more or less the successor to the Hisense R6090G.

 The U6G has a pretty standard design, typical of other Hisense.

 The stand is a bit less wide than the TV, and it feels solid.

 It's also tall enough that you should be able to fit a soundbar underneath it without

 The inputs are located on the left-hand side, and the four HDMI 2.0 ports allow you to connect

 One of the ports also supports ARC, or audio return channel, that you can connect to your

 receiver or soundbar to play sound from the TV through your external speakers.

 The back of the TV fits the VESA mount standard, so you can wall mount it for a cleaner look,

 and it has a pretty typical thickness, so it'll stick out a bit.

 The build quality of the TV is decent, again, pretty standard for an entry-level TV.
