Hisense 50H8C vs Sony X90J

The Hisense 50H8C is an under-$500 50-inch 4K television that offers excellent color accuracy, but is held back by a sluggish interface.

It takes a total of 18 (yes, EIGHTEEN) button presses on the remote to successfully make a connection, and get me back to the input I was watching. (I'm not even including the button press on my headphones). In comparison, my Blu-ray player takes exactly ONE press of a button, but I like to use my Xbox for a superior picture, as well as 4K support (Xbox lacks Bluetooth). This seems like a software fix needed on Sony's end

Although both TVs use a VA panel, the X90J has a higher contrast ratio, which means it can display deeper blacks. Its color gamut isn't as good as the X900H's, but it gets significantly brighter in HDR to make highlights pop, and its brightness is more consistent due to a less aggressive Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL).

I will keep the TV, but would go for cheaper model next time for my particular needs in that specific room. Unless you sit close to the screen, lots of the advantages of this screen quality get lost. Sound wise, it's actually usable after some equalizer adjustments, but here too I'm using HomePods that deliver fuller sound and don't sound like a TV speaker. (the TV allows connections to Amazon and Google wireless speakers as well)

This is really quite nice. The image is truly high resolution and easily adjusted for personal taste. The performance on B&W is particularly impressive, reminding me of our 14 inch Westinghouse and 17 inch Philco - clean, clear, sharp.

In fact, with the previous (deemed defective model) I had tried with another soundbar and had problem, so I have asked them to re-open case. Not happy..

I had the H6 model prior to this H8 and I do not care for the newer version. The H6 remote control was a wireless mouse and I could download apps with ease and control the volume of the sounbar as well as other components like blue ray. I have to hold the remote within 5 feet of the TV or it doesn't work. I wish I never thought this TV would be an upgrade
