“Upgrades are done. Now I can finally listen!”

  Much more recently, I’ve had a Gold2 and a Statement Platinum2, both mounted on my MoFi Ultradeck. Both tracked well (confirmed with a test record). Both sounded really good running into my Sutherland Insight phono stage.  I’m a super heavy spinner so I decided to buy the Gold3 and return to a cartridge with a user replaceable stylus, which the Statement Platinum2 lacks

 It’s still running in and I’m shocked how amazing this is for $260. Rock, jazz, EDM, classical- it does it all brilliantly.  If you know and like the Grado sound, you’ll love this. If you don’t know the Grado sound, they sound more like real music than most cartridges I’ve heard

These have sound on par with the higher end speakers I’ve heard at half the price. I cannot emphasise enough how happy I am with them, and they’re a extremely good entry point into the audio world.

As a high schooler working part time in a supermarket I went for “bang for your buck” with this. I wanted great sound at a reasonable price.

The whole system is running through an Argon SA-1 amplifier, which I chose because it had all the stuff I needed (at the moment), and had a reasonable price tag. 

Running into that I have a NAD C558 turntable, upgraded with an Ortofon 2M Red pickup. The turntable was mainly picked because of the discount I got, since it was a demo model. It was already a contestant when I was looking, so the offer just gave me the extra push. I was recommended upgrading the pickup, but I wasn’t sure I’d wanna spend those $100+ on one, especially since I had an alright one on it already (Ortofon OM 10), but after I heard the difference I knew I made the right call.

For CD’s I’m using an NAD C538, since I also got that at a bargain. Not much to say here as I mainly listen to vinyl, but I’m happy with the sound off the CD’s I have.

Now to the speakers. These B&W 607’s are out of this world. These have sound on par with the higher end speakers I’ve heard at half the price. I cannot emphasise enough how happy I am with them, and they’re a extremely good entry point into the audio world. 

By devoting the majority of my pay checks into this project I finally have a coherent, awesome sounding system. The next thing for me, is getting floor stands for the speakers (as they’re too close to each other atm). Also, I need a way to get use headphones with it, as my amp does not have a headphone port built-in, help would be very much appreciated on that point. Any other feedback to optimise my setup would be great as well, thanks.

Nice. You're right about the speakers. I went with the 606's, also in white, paired with a Cambridge Audio CXA60. Ridiculously happy with both.

After 1 year into this hobby, sinking most of my pay checks into it, this is my setup. This is what my life has become. (Specs in comments)

 They still sound pretty good, but I think even an untrained ear would be able to tell the difference in quality now.  One thing to keep in mind if upgrading from another OM cartridge: the 20 requires a very precise alignment. Records I had no problem with using my 5E started skipping CONSTANTLY all of the sudden, and deep bass lines started to produce noticeable IGD. I finally pulled out my Geo Disc to check it and it was just a hair off, so I decided to monkey with it

  Long read, I know, but there is very little information on the forums about these cartridges compared to others. If you're still reading down here, I hope this helped! Buy this or go full stupid and get the 30 or 40.

 Turns out, 50% of those records are really not as good as I had initially thought. The difference between the super high quality MoFi records and my "really good" normal releases became painfully apparent immediately. They still sound pretty good, but I think even an untrained ear would be able to tell the difference in quality now. I’ve bought aftermarket OM 20 from Deovi to try out on my OM10 super and there was a definite difference which only got better with more hours out onto it. I currently have an OM30 from same supplier and I’m loving it. Crisper mids & highs and tight bass.

Has anyone tried any of the aftermarket upgrades from turntableneedles/lpgear/etc?  OM30 or OM40 stylus would be nice but the OEM price is rather meh.

<p>Also, assuming quality is decent, would Shibata be an overkill for Fluance RT82?  Those are available for under $200 which is a whole lot more palatable than $600 Ortofon Black.</p>

 So after I research a little about the comparison between OM 10 and 20, and also knowing the ProS was not being used optimally, I finally decided to depart with 200 clams and see what kind of result I get. I put the stylus on as soon as I had a chance to, start playing with it am was I in a pleasant surprise, the details rival the Shure, sounded better than the Grado GC and give awesome details and stage presents. It jumped to the number one spot of my cartilage collection and overtook the Shure. The only thing I wanted was the price come down a bit to the level of eBay offer

All the reviews about the sound are true. Here is my story, I have a old linear tracking turntable and I also have an almost 40 yrs old P-mount OM 10 cartilage. About 2 yrs back, I decided to get back to vinyl and put the OM to one of my second hand linear tracking turntables I acquired for 50 each. The other linear tracking I have a Grado P-mount

 I replaced the OM stylus since it was pressed and bended using ProS. I sounded Okay but the ProS stylus was design for tracking force 2-2.5 g and the turntable can only give 1.25-1

It’s as good as the sound it produce

 The music is better seperated, each individual instrument stands out. Highs are crisp and clean, an improvement on the lows, the mids are present. I listened to a few albums I am very familiar with and heard details I have not noticed before. It was not very difficult to notice the improvents and then there are the subtle differences I hear when really listening

 Layne Stayley's vocals were outstanding and Cornell's highs crisp and clean. I feel, well hear this was a good investment, the good quality pressings I have now leave CD sound behind, I compared cd to vinyl with my Marantz CD 6004, ran through the same amplifier and speakers and then gave a listen with headphones, the vinyl won and I am now a believer. Just wish that all vinyl pressings were equal but unfortunately they are not the good pressings especially the 45's are much improved. This was well worth it, if you listen to music with your eyes closed, in your favorite chair positioned just right inbetween your speakers, and want to hear just a bit more of that sonic wave you love to ride I would suggest this upgrade

First spin of an album and my ears were satisfied, if I was blindfolded and did not know I would have thought it was a completely different turntable. I went from the om10 to the 20.
