 Hey everybody, welcome back to Recordology.

 For those of you that may be thinking that I filmed this intro five minutes after the last show's intro,

 you're probably right. But today, and we are past Thanksgiving now, we are getting ready for pure

 Christmas mode. In fact, I'm not going to be able to help myself today, you guys. We're going to

 have to listen to some Christmas music. I'm sorry, but I love Christmas. We're going to be doing some

 awesome, awesome stuff. As you now know, if you join our live, did you join our live? If not,

 why not? Definitely hit the bell notification so you don't miss those in the future. But today,

 we're going to be taking a look at this. And let me tell you, my friends, good things come

 in small packages. This is the Grado Gold Stereophonic Moving Magnetic Cartridge, the Prestige

 Gold II from Grado Labs. They've been in business since 1953. And John Grado that's running it now

 is the third generation in this family business right here in the United States, in Brooklyn,

 New York. Anyway, guys, this is going to be super cool. You're not going to want to miss this.

 Okay, guys, time to unbox it. Full disclosure here, I have previously opened it up. There was

 a little plastic tube that all of this came in, so you won't see that. However, as you can see,

 as I open it now that we have paperwork, we have the cartridge itself, and even a couple of little

 surprises here. I love the box, very minimalistic. You know, what the investment is here is in the

 product, not the packaging, as it should be, right? So look at that. That is awesome. I love the gold

 paneling on the side. There it is, the Grado Prestige Gold II. We're going to go ahead and set

 that down. We have some screws here and nuts. We also have a tool to remove the stylus down the

 road. They also include a really neat spec sheet that talks about the performance of the cartridge

 and some instructions on installing it on different mounts and whatnot. This cartridge outputs four

 microvolts. It has 10 to 55,000 hertz of frequency response, which is awesome. And in terms of channel

 separation, it averages 25 decibels at 10 to 30,000 hertz. This is a diamond elliptical stylus and

 should track at 1.5 grams. Okay, we're going to go ahead and replace the old cartridge on here by

 gently removing the leads off the back. Be very careful not to damage these because if you ever

 need to go back and solder new connections, you're going to hate your life. So let's go ahead and

 gently unscrew the Ortofon 2M Red. And I'm not 100% sure if we'll use these screws or

 if we will use the ones that it came with. But let's go ahead and see here. Gently, gently,

 make sure the stylus guard is on there before you even, you know, grasp it. So here is the new

 cartridge. And this is very tricky actually because the 2M Red has receptacles for those screws.

 There's threading actually in the cartridge, whereas the Grado cartridge just has a pass-through.

 There's just a hole. So you have to use nuts, which if your hands are as big and beefy as mine

 are, it's very difficult. So this actually took quite some time to do. I did a lot of this off

 camera, which you would thank me for because it's about an hour and a half of me sitting there

 trying to twiddle these things together. I did end up using a washer on there as well. But put

 the leads back on. It's very clearly stated on the paperwork of how to wire it back together.

 And that's pretty much all there is to it. Don't forget to take the stylus guard off,

 as you will see me do here in a minute. But look at it, guys. Isn't it beautiful? I just love it.

 I cannot wait to listen to it, because if it sounds as good as it looks, we're really in for

 a treat. Don't forget to set that stylus guard somewhere safe because you may need it in the

 future. Okay, now we're just going to take the tone arm out of the rest and rotate it over the

 acrylic platter. Because when you put a new cartridge on, you need to calibrate it. There's

 a couple of things you have to do. In addition to setting the anti-skate and counterbalance,

 you're going to need to align the cartridge. I'm using a variety of tools to align that cartridge,

 including a mirror protractor, which is really handy from looking bottom up.

 Okay, guys, now before we get to the audio test, I want to tell you it's time to put on your

 headphones. So definitely put those headphones on. You will be able to tell a difference. I

 guarantee it. If you cannot hear a difference, I would be very surprised. It sounds pretty

 drastically different. So I want you to experience that. So put your headphones on right now. Hit

 pause if you need to. But also I want to make a couple of observations and a couple of notes.
