 For example, if I ask Google Assistant, "Where is Blade Runner 2049 playing near me?" it will give me movie showtimes, automatically. For Alexa, you have to specifically "Ask Fandango." I can ask Google Assistant directly for a fried chicken recipe; with Alexa, you need to remember to enable the Allrecipes skill. That said, Alexa's recipes then come from Allrecipes, a reliable source; Google's came from some site I'd never heard of

If you're a Google Play Music subscriber, or you have a Chromecast or Chromecast-compatible TV, you have a compelling reason to go with the Google Home Mini instead of the Echo Dot. For everyone else, the Echo Dot is still our Editors' Choice.

Tiny speakers typcially don't sound very good. Compared with some of our favorite Bluetooth speakers (even small ones), you could say that the Mini's 40mm drivers sound tinny and harsh. But it's much better than the Echo Dot. At arm's length, it can be up to 10db louder than the weak little Dot, with a much rounder sound that at least it suggests bass

Google's speakers are generally more attractive than Amazon's, although the new $99 fabric-covered Echo is a step in the right direction. Still, the Home Mini is super cute and measures 3.86 inches in diameter, 1.65 inches high, covered in chalk, charcoal, or coral fabric

If you want to use the Home Mini to primarily play music, you can wirelessly link it to a larger speaker for better audio quality. But it only supports Cast-enabled speakers, whether that’s built in or enabled by a connected Google Cast for Audio dongle, which is far more limiting than the Echo Dot’s Bluetooth or 3.5mm options. (You can use the Mini as a Bluetooth speaker for your phone or tablet, but it cannot connect to a larger speaker over Bluetooth as the Echo Dot can

While the larger Home has three speakers to drive an impressively full sound, the Home Mini makes do with one, top-firing speaker. As a result, it does not sound nearly as good as the larger Home, and does not work well to fill medium to large rooms with music. That said, the voice responses from the Home Mini sound great — much better than the can of bees you get from Amazon's Echo Dot — and it does get loud enough to hear from across my living room.

 The Echo Dot’s push button volume up and down controls are easier to use and less likely to be accidentally triggered, for what it’s worth.

Google support is crap.  I had a scenario where they gave me wrong information, and they admitted and they gave me wrong information, and as a result I had to return the phone which therefore disqualified me from a promotion (a free Google home mini) and even though they were the ones that gave me the incorrect information leading up to this issue they refused to concede and give me the free Google home mini when I should have been able to get it had it not been for their incorrect information.  Google support is trash.

Pre-ordered one from Google and it was perfect, no gap at all. However the screen was unresponsive especially when charging. I was unable to unlock it with pin. 

I immediately went to Best buy and bought an unlocked pixel 5 which had a perfectly working screen, but it did have a gap. I exchanged it and got one with no gap and a perfectly working screen. It really is a luck of the draw type of thing with the screen gap I guess. All in all, I really like the pixel 5, especially the battery life.

Google is an advertisement company. It's wrong for us to expect good hardware from Google. I was considering purchasing Pixel 5 but not anymore after seeing this. I'm reminded to stick with proven companies like Samsung or Apple.

I had a terrible experience with Google support and the Pixel 5 as well. It's the first time I've ever been so quickly pushed to complain and warn people to think carefully before buying from them. 

It was my first time with a Pixel device, the whole experience was dire - in large part due to the support they provided.

I wanted to love it, but ended up unlikely to ever buy from them again.

You don't like the hidden pocket feature? Lol but in all seriousness, I'd return and buy it again somewhere else to be safe. Then again, this is a widespread issue and if you've ever tried to return something to Best Buy, it can be ... difficult. I get you though, I'm not a fan of Galaxies, OnePlus are good, but the cameras lack imo, Apple could be good, but it is a whole different beast, and I don't know if anything else really holds a candle. I tried to go back to apple and used an iPhone SE for two weeks before going back to my Pixel 3x (or whatever it was called) until the 5 came in. I've had a Galaxy Note and an Edge. I hate the bloatware so much. Pixel fits me and my kinetics well.

Just get an iphone 12. got it after my pixel 4xl is having back glass peeling off problem. Never look back. It's honestly way better on the other side

This is the REASON why I upgraded from a Pixel 3a XL to the T-Mobile's 8T variant! Google says the gap is "normal". I was waiting for Google to respond to the thousands of complaints and professional smart phone reviewers from notable sources that encountered the same issue. Google failed and is producing faulty hardware yet again. The Pixel 4 has been plaqued with hardware/software issues too. I felt Google had to get this right or they're just out of the game completely.  My assumption is the Pixel 4a has better quality? My 3a had 0 issues.

Hmm, mine isn't like that at all. I'd just get a replacement from Google. I've never had any issues with replacements from them - in fact, they shipped out a new Pixel 3 XL when it had the screen tint issue and didn't request the old one until I received the new one. Seamless exchange without downtime. Love my Pixel 5.

Don't forget it's 2020 at Google too.  It's just a crappy time for product quality across the board and if you can avoid major product purchases right now (cars, phones, furniture) you are better off.  

I've been on the Pixel line since inception and my 3XL had a Bluetooth hardware failure after a ~2 years of ownership and that's been my only negative with the Pixel line so far.  Because the phone was my car key (Bluetooth) I had to remedy the situation and I begrudgingly ordered a Pixel 5, eyes wide open to these potential issues.  

I was ready to return it if necessary.  I wasn't even excited to see it hit my front porch.  After inspecting it closely I found no gaps but the screen fitment leaves something to be desired.  Like you can tell that the phone body and screen tolerances are a little off like it's a cheap phone.  This virtually disappears when you put it in a case.  

This msg is being sent on the Pixel 5.  I'm looking forward to the Pixel 6 with proprietary silicon but that tech leap may need a gap year to work out the gremlins.  Pixel 5 is doing fine, no major deal breakers.  5G and reverse wireless charging are cool.  I stopped using phone speakers for music playback long ago.

The Pixel 5 should get the job done until something better comes out and it's not 2020 anymore.

So I purchased my Pixel 5 directly from Google and noticed the bottom left corner wasn't sealing down properly the first night. By the 2nd day, I as I removed it from the cloth case I purchased along with the phone I saw that corner flex and that there was lint from my pocket and dust collection in and around it. Google requested I take pics so I did and they said this gap was normal. So back and forth, I take more pics showing I can actually fit my nail in between the frame and pry the screen away from the body. Definitely not normal here Google.... (Hopefully these work)

So now I'm at the point where my return period is up on the 14th, I can either pre-auth another $700+ for an "advanced exchange" or send my phone back for a traditional exchange and be without for however long til they decide to send a replacement. I asked about the return policy being extended since that only gives me this week to decide what to do and hopefully even get a replacement in time, but alas they won't help there either. I've looked into just purchasing a OnePlus 8T at this point and telling Google to get bent like they did me, but I've never had a OnePlus device. However, I can't imagine it will be any worse than a phone with a terrible top speaker and a giant gap on it so 🤷🏼‍♀️ feel free to chime in your opinion.

I asked about the return policy being extended since that only gives me this week to decide what to do and hopefully even get a replacement in time, but alas they won&#39;t help there either. I&#39;ve looked into just purchasing a OnePlus 8T at this point and telling Google to get bent like they did me, but I&#39;ve never had a OnePlus device. However, I can&#39;t imagine it will be any worse than a phone with a terrible top speaker and a giant gap in it so 🤷🏼‍♀️ feel free to chime in your opinion.</p>
