The Giant Revolt aluminum frame bike is about that price and is a great bike for the money. I think there is a Jamis Renegade in that price range too that is a great bike.

Hi all, I’m looking at getting my first gravel bike. A bit intimidated by all the options. My budget is ~$1200 ideally, but looking to explore my options. Living in Denver and would be used as a commuter but I mostly want it for weekend trips and some bikepacking/touring. Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated.

 There's a lot more going on around there, the rear stays which are dropped and much skinnier than before, just a more shapely frame and the result of all the changes. A nip and tuck here and there is a frame and fork on this advanced pro top-level model that is a whopping 200 grams lighter than the old model and a result of that frame weight saving along with a full carbon sub 1400 gram wheels, a Shimano Grx Di2 2 by group set, and a carbon handlebar and stem means that this size Ml without pedals is just over eight kilograms. And the weight that's as light or lighter than some road bikes I reviewed on a channel previously. So grab a bike with big tires and big tire clothes and all the amounts for water bottles and racks that weighs just over eight kilograms

 But while Revolt doesn't have the aero or the suspension or some of those other bikes, it does have a very well designed frame that delivers good compliance thanks to that seat post and handlebar, big tire clearance, all the amounts you need for up to six water bottles and everything else you might want to carry on a multi-day bike packing adventure. And it really is a deeply impressive bike. And in that way, it's an easy bike to recommend. And of course, the value for money with Giant is always strong

 As I said, at one end you have aero speed machines like the 3t Explorer Race Max or Cervelo Espero. At the other end a super capable off-road mounted by Influence bikes like the Bmc, unrestricted, the open wide especially diverge and many Avoc samples. But while Revolt doesn't have the aero or the suspension or some of those other bikes, it does have a very well designed frame that delivers good compliance thanks to that seat post and handlebar, big tire clearance, all the amounts you need for up to six water bottles and everything else you might want to carry on a multi-day bike packing adventure. And it really is a deeply impressive bike

 As we are here, the weight gives a bike and an immediate sense of urgency. It gets up to speed so so quickly and maintains that high speed really easily. And these fast rolling maxis tyres definitely help with the impression of speed as well. and they're a great option for road riding and for dry, smooth gravel like this

NEW Giant Revolt Advanced Pro 2022 review: The best gravel bike you can buy?

Finally got my Giant Revolt tuned after a year of ownership and wanted to share what I find works well (for me) incase it helps anyone else out there. First the sizing: I am 6’0” with slightly longer arms for my height. And about 33” leg inseam. Went with the medium/large 56cm and after a professional bike fit I added 10mm to the stem and that was it

2022 Giant Revolt Advanced Pro 1

 [Applause] At the rear, the combination of skinny stays and the new defused post gives the posterior an almost floaty air. The 8.33 kilo weight sounds somewhat average on paper, but the revolve zero rides like a much much lighter bike. A lot of that is down to the new Cxr wheel set with a weight of 1398 grams a pair

 While it bears more than a passing resemblance to the outgoing bike, at the heart of this revolve is an all-new frame set. The frame details share much of Giant's signature design cues from the road range the triangulated head tube to the junction of the top and down tube because the Tcx Cyclocross bike with a little bit of Tcr thrown in too. You also get the low slung sloping top tube, so it's equally easy to move around on the bike when the going gets technical. At the back, the overly seat tube with its aerostyle cutaway looks very much like the Defy, as do the drop seat stays

 The reach has also been extended out to 397 millimeters from 391 to make the ride position a little racier. Although the stack height has grown by 14 mil, which means I could run the stem on, the Revolt pretty much slammed. [Music] Any thoughts of Shimano bringing the 12-speed semi-wireless updates to Grx or 2022 seem unlikely because The Revolt has the 11 speed Grx Rx 815 throughout. For me, that's a great thing

 When I found out a new Revolt was on the horizon this past winter, I felt a little bit apprehensive about where Giant would be taking the gravel bike that's impressed me in its previous guyses. The 2022 model I've put to the test is the new flagship of the range, with its revamped frame set, new lightweight gravel specific carbon wheel set, and Shimano's criminally underused Grx Di2 in its two by Guys. For reference, a friend who rides gravel roads in the area rides 42mm and says he wouldn't go below 40mm. The other lead option is a Specialized Diverge Elite E5 (I tried the base E5 and the sport carbon) which would offer wider clearance; however, the drivetrain and specs are not as good and I haven't found one in my area yet. I tried and did not love: Salsa Vaya, Cannondale Topstone, Giant Revolt Advanced. I don't do my own mechanical work, so I am not particularly comfortable with direct-to-consumer options

Listen, all you on here have excellent, discerning taste. So I just thought I’d ask if you have any bike recommendations. Mainly I’ll be commuting about 3 miles a day, mostly through the city, with a couple big hills.

Any suggestions as to something well made that might not be from the big name brands out there? (Unless the big name brands are just as good)

Bike recommendations?

Extreme comfort for all road riding, with capability of doing some local trails. The best budget gravel bikes out there are pretty much the State All-Road 4130 ($850) and the Poseidon X ($700). I don’t own a standard road bike, but I can tell you that the State All-Road is every bit as capable as my Cannondale Topstone 105 with road tires on it. Goes just as fast with a budget groupset and wide, slick gravel tires

I'm looking to take up cycling as a new fitness hobby and for fun. I’m 37 now and haven’t ridden since childhood, but I'm pretty athletic and have decent endurance (soccer and track background). I go to the gym regularly, etc. 

Originally, I settled on a Specialized [Sirrus 3.0](https://www.specialized.com/us/en/sirrus-3-0/p/174692?color=279691-174692&amp;searchText=90920-7700) after a ton of research. I put down a deposit at local shop. Waiting for it to come in. 

In the meantime, I've been watching YouTube bike videos, Tour de France, etc… And I'm wondering if after a very short while I’d probably wanna do legit group rides or even race.

Ultimately, I really miss sports and being competitive (ankles can’t handle soccer anymore) and think I might want to try road racing- but I have a million considerations:

First off, my main consideration is the roads and where I can or can't ride it. I live in upstate NY (Buffalo suburbs) and getting mixed opinions from a couple friends that ride. A couple people said they don’t enjoy their road bikes because of the crappy roads here and recommended I go with the Sirrus (fitness bike, flat bars), or even a Trek Dual Sport (flat bars, front suspension). They pointed out that I might have to drive a road bike somewhere first to really use it - which I DO NOT want to do. On the other hand, I have a family friend who does iron man triathlons, road races, etc and he said him and his friends ride (their road bikes) all over WNY and just avoid certain roads. Very different opinions :/  

Second - Admittedly, I’m a bit intimidated by the drop bars and slightly unstable feeling of a road bike after 20 some years away from my BMX lol. Maybe I shouldn’t care since I assume you get over that quick? But with regards to what my friends were saying about the roads here, maybe its still a reason to lean towards a flat bar bike? Rough roads, potholes, etc. 

Third - price. Willing to spend about $500-$1000 on a fitness bike but seems like it’d be at least double that for a decent road bike- maybe more for 105 groupset and disc brakes. Maybe I’m wrong? Willing to go $1500-2500 for road bike. Or should I even spend that much? Does your first bike get scuffed up, etc? Clearly, I know nothing haha…

Lastly, it just seems like a lot to figure out and get into if you don’t have a group of friends who ride. Road bike is more $$$, more kit, more gear. Easy to just go for a fitness bike and be able to take off from your house with less things to worry about.

 It’s a great bike for the price. I say it’s the best sub-$1,000 gravel bike on the US market.

It’s the same stuff. I have a Topstone 105 and a Poseidon Redwood and I am very pleased with the budget State All-Road 4130. It’s a great bike for the price. I say it’s the best sub-$1,000 gravel bike on the US market

This is my first “adult” bike and my gift to myself for completing my masters.  I went with State because I heard they’re great value for the money.

My bike has ~40 miles on it, and I’ve had to stop really often to retighten the saddle, it would slip and jam the front into me.  I took it apart and the teeth are totally stripped out - it was initially torqued to spec and I carry self-recovery tools with me, even wrenching it down tight won’t help anymore and I have hover over the seat and barely rest right in the middle

Today I rode about 5 miles and my left pedal arm, initially meticulously assembled and torqued to spec came loose, I tightened it and right as I got home it came home.

The chain randomly slips gears, the bike shop said it’s assembled correctly as far as they can tell.

I really want to love this bike but I’m so disappointed in the quality so far,  barely worth $600 - even in 2022 inflation adjusted dollars. 

Can someone help me solve the issues with the seat and pedal arm?  Any tips for enjoying my bike?  Thanks!
