Fujifilm X-T30 vs Nikon D80

As always, JPEGs from the X-T30 look downright terrific. All of Fujifilm’s signature film simulations are included, and it’s a lot of fun testing them and seeing what works best for a given shooting scenario, whether you’re looking for more vivid colors, moody black and white shots, or something with softer tones. The company recently launched a redesigned mobile app for iOS (it’ll come to Android this summer), but I’ll just say that there’s still room for improvement in terms of speed and eliminating unnecessary steps. To date and considering upgrades from the D70 to a D300, D810, and now a D850, many of those images from the earliest digital I owned are not only comparable, but stellar shots. Use it til you outgrow it. Spend your money on the absolute best tripod you can get before you ever consider upgrading the camera.

The Lens that came with mine is the 18-135mm lens, so the following information is based upon that. The included lens has an auto focus that VERY quickly snaps to make a very clear image quickly. The auto focus most of the time will focus better than manual. The autofocus system is essentially the same as the X-T3—the X-T30 actually offers some enhancements, which are coming to the X-T3 via a firmware update. In practice, it performs quite well. It locks focus quickly, supports eye and face detection for human subjects, and can track moving targets with ease.

I like the fact that the focus motor is built into the camera and we can use older lenses. The fact that it doesn't have live view or video means nothing to us as I've not once used those features on my d90. I bought this body used and at $200 it was a GREAT deal.

I bought the 23mm 1:1.4R and 35mm 1:1.4R lenses, and both have fairly loud autofocus mechanisms. Even when you use these lenses with manual focus, you're actually not controlling the assembly directly, it still uses the motors to focus

I mostly got it for landscape and city/street photography, but also have hopes of doing astrophotography eventually with some 3rd party prime lenses (Fuji's primes are a bit out of my budget currently). Besides the lower price, I also selected it over it's big brother, the X-T3, because of its more compact size and lighter weight. But besides those things and a few minor feature limits, it is essentially the same camera for a few hundred $ less. I will update soon with more thoughts and some photos

A great camera for the money! I love the Fujifilm Film Simulations it is well known for and truly, the JPEG rendering out of camera is nearly as good as you can get with the RAW files. Very happy!

If you really want the cheapest and don't think you'll be pursuing photography any further, get a used Canon Rebel XT and EF-S 18-55mm kit lens, it sounds like the requirements were written with that era of DSLR in mind as the bare minimum. You should be able to get one for around or less than $100. They probably won't include any storage though, so make sure you get a CF (compact flash) card.
