The air must be able to reach the back in order to take out the moisture. We always left our old one next to the cabinet to save on space, but noticed this one was not taking out the same amount of water overnight. It had to come out 12 inches into the room to work better.

Some drawbacks

I understand that the 12-month warranty is just company policy and that as a company, it will try its best to avoid cost, but it feels rather shabby for a company to pretend that it is perfectly beyond reproach when one piece of their major appliance fails after one single season of use.

This model was great when it worked at the beginning, just as many positive reviews described. It then went to hibernation as fall came and the air became dry.  Regardless, it's worth it for indoor comfort and to reduce the chance of mold and moisture damage to our wood floors.

Most of these dehumidifiers have a very similar design. Air comes in the front or back and exits out the top, there's a water collection bucket underneath, and there are controls on top for things like humidity level and fan speed. The unit contains what's essentially a very small air conditioner, with a compressor, a cold coil, and a hot coil. The room air moves over the cold coil, which condenses water out of the air (like on a glass of ice water)

  This Frigidaire replaced a GE dehumidifier with a very similar design. The GE worked well for about 3 years, limped along for a 4th, and then ran but no longer pulled out any water. I took it apart and found the coil was all rusty and had leaked the refrigerant. This was not a huge surprise, because it had been putting out nasty red brown water for some time

We have salt air here near the coast and it's hard on HVAC units and maybe dehumidifiers, so time will tell what kind of longevity we get from it

 My meter shows the 60 pint running on high at 488 watts, and the 50 at 638 watts.  The 60 pint isn't better if its oversized for the need. It is appropriate for dehumidifying a larger, wetter space.  I rate it four stars because of unknown reliability

We have been dealing with high humidity (South California foothills environment)…even with the A/C running pretty much constantly, we were in 60-65% humidity range and having to be at 65-68 degrees…without A/C on, humidity would jump to 70-77%….as soon as we got this dehumidifier delivered, we turned on, left it on overnight, and without A/C overnight we woke up to 45% humidity! Definitely a game changer…it is a bit noisy, maybe a bit more than central A/C, and I’m sure this will consume electricity $$$…but basically this allows us to not have to run A/C constantly so we think it’ll be at least neutral on cost if not overall cheaper
