 We would have preferred a slightly different control setup for the gain knobs, but that's a minor complaint. Otherwise, the Scarlett 2i2 is practically a must-have for upgrading your recordings. 

When we connected the Scarlett 2i2 to a MacBook for the first time, an on-screen prompt immediately directed us to the registration process. Alternatively, you can manually register the box later and start using it immediately by pressing and holding the phantom power button for several seconds.

The back panel houses the USB-C port for connecting the interface to your computer via the included cable; this connection both powers the box and transmits the audio to your PC. The left and right quarter-inch line outputs here have a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz (for mic or line-in inputs), while the converter operates at 24 bits and with a sample rate of up to 192kHz (48kHz and 96kHz are also options). So today I have the Scarlett Solo by Focusrite.

This one here, is the 3rd generation of the
Scarlett audio interface series.

I’ve actually reviewed the 1st generation
and the 2nd generation.

And this time, I got in the smallest one,
the Scarlett Solo to talk about this and to

What I’m going to do now is to show you
what’s inside and then I’m going to do

And I want to mention that, it’s really
really small.

When you open this up, there you go, you only
have the audio interface, and you have a small

cable here – which is your USB-C cable.

I want to show you and talk about what you
see on the device itself.

There we go, this is the Focusrite Scarlett
Solo.

So basically it an XLR input here for microphones,
you have your gain knobs here, and then you

have your 48 volts button for phantom power
needed for condenser microphones and also

the very new special AIR button here which
adds a bit of higher end frequencies and sibilance

And then here we have the inputs for your
line-ins or your instruments.

So you also have the button to change it from
an instrument or line-in input level, with

You also have the LED (around the knob) which
tells you if your signal is clipping, which

And this is your monitor knob for monitoring
through your headphones and the audio outs

And then your direct monitor button here.

Okay, if we look at the back, you can see
that we have your desktop lock, with your

USB-C input, and then we have two balanced
audio outputs here – the right and left.

So if you look at this from a perspective
point of view.

This is my Samsung Note phone, it’s just
about the same size as my phone, really small

and great if you are a singer-songwriter who
is travelling around and using the Focusrite
