  Sadly it doesn't have a built in hardware limiter as far as I can tell, which I've heard from a few sources is superior to a software limiter (I'm not sure why it doesn't work nearly as well). That would have definitely been a nice feature but I get the impression those are only found in more expensive equipment, something to consider.  This unit doesn't provide quite as much gain as I would personally like. It would be nice if there was quite a bit of extra headroom to keep the gain low and in turn the background noise low

I am personally a newbie to audio interfaces and this is my first venture into this type of product. I feel like I've got a relatively good ear for music and discerning different audio equipment. To me the background noise when it is set to a high gain is pretty impressively low. Now I really haven't owned a variety of audio interfaces or have major experience with recording equipment so take that with a grain of salt

  This unit doesn't provide quite as much gain as I would personally like. It would be nice if there was quite a bit of extra headroom to keep the gain low and in turn the background noise low. I'm running an SM58, I don't have a huge amount of experience with other mics so I don't know if that is a particularly gain hungry mic, I didn't think so but maybe ill get a better idea later. Possibly more gain is something I would get with more expensive gear, I should really research that more in the future

Is The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Studio 3rd Gen Worth it ?! (A Honest Review)

So basically I want to be able to record my guitar amp Roland JC-22  into Logic via the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface, however when I do this by connecting the amp line outs into the focusrite's inputs, it just sounds terrible- really tinny and weird. It sounds much better just recording direct from the guitar pedals into the focusrite.

I recently purchased the Scarlett solo 3rd gen for recording my bass guitar. I ended up having to return it as the audio would only playback on the left and I couldn’t seem to fix the unwanted distortion issue from the unit itself. I was recommended to purchase a Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 or a Focusrite 2i2 instead.

My search continues for a device that allows me to record a bass line on my PC!  (I am curious how much money I will have to spend in the end, for what should be a simple task)

 I would rate them as a neutral sound, with perhaps just a slight hint of darkness to them. Hands-down, the price performance leader according to my own research.

I love this interface and its available inputs/outputs cover all my needs as an independent home producer. I only have two complaints related to the design. First is that you have to use the Focusrite Control software interface which is not very intuitive - the manual needs to provide more examples of various setups using the software. Secondly, the four 1/4" TRS line output jacks on the back of the unit do not securely hold the cable plugs and two or three times a month I lose connection with my studio monitors and have to reseat them

 If you're using Windows, I would be a little bit hesitant of buying into a multi-thousand dollar system. I really think that before investing multiple thousands of dollars in a system, you should find somebody who has Windows, who runs it as their main production PC and has a good experience with the Universal Audio stuff. If you're going Thunderbolt 3, I think there are some serious issues with Thunderbolt 3 and Windows, so I probably would steer clear of it if that's you. But on the other hand, if you're a Mac user and the computer you use has a Thunderbolt 3 port and you want access to that amazing plug-in library, you want a couple of microphone pre's and you need the Spiddif or ADAT expansion, then absolutely I recommend this thing

 The Twin will be less powerful, meaning it can run fewer plugins and the Quad will be able to run more plugins. And another quick note, the reason that these interfaces are so expensive is because they also have processors in them that allow you to offload the processing from your computer onto the interface and also decrease the latency so you can hear almost in real time what you're doing to your audio signal with the plugins. But with those notes out of the way, I will be recording at 24-bit 48 kilohertz, the microphone is the Rode NT1, my gain is set at 32 dB, I am not doing any kind of processing, no DSP currently, and I will not do any kind of post-processing, but I may have to boost it a little bit in post, so make sure to check the doobly-doo to see what I diddly-did.  Today we're checking out the Universal Audio Apollo Twin X, the latest iteration of the very popular Apollo Twin. There are some big improvements in this generation, including converters directly derived from the flagship Apollo X audio interfaces from Universal Audio. In addition to that, the Apollo Twin X now features Thunderbolt 3 connectivity for both Mac and PC. On a Macintosh, it's backward compatible with Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 as well

  Only buy this item to use in a large, or very well ventilated & cooled area and place it away from pets/kids/anyone who could accidentally burn themselves while it's in use.

  In sum: It's a bummer I wasted so much money.  But I'm writing this so you won't end up like me: disappointed (and broke) with a piece of equipment that makes it far too uncomfortable to use in a smaller studio setting:  The Apollo Twin X Quad gets ridiculously hot.  Only buy this item to use in a large, or very well ventilated & cooled area and place it away from pets/kids/anyone who could accidentally burn themselves while it's in use.

 And it gets EXTREMELY hot when using plug ins -- over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.  As for audio- the sound quality is decent but it didn't sound any better than my Scarlett 2i2, and certainly doesn't justify the heat, as the Scarlett puts off no heat at all. The big volume control knob is nice. The presets seem cool and were the main reason I bought it

 That means you're constantly unable to use your $1000+ audio interfaces from UAD.  I've given up, and so has about 12 or more remixers and producers I work with in a group, and we've all gotten Apogee Symphony or other cards. Imagine our surprise when even super cheap Prosonus or MOTU cards work when UAD doesn't. What are we paying for UAD? To always be behind?  Putting our UAD interfaces on Ebay and standardizing on Apogee

  And they just barely half-heartedly started supporting Big Sur, putting us about 2 OS's behind for Apple OS's. Even when they claim they are finally supporting an OS, their drivers are plagued with issues, locking up the OS when you try to go into their dashboard..

  For example, it's now April 2022, Mac Monterrey has been in full release for almost 6 months (beta for much longer), and UAD still doesn't support it. Vague "no information available" posts on their site and tech support about when they WILL support it.  And they just barely half-heartedly started supporting Big Sur, putting us about 2 OS's behind for Apple OS's. Even when they claim they are finally supporting an OS, their drivers are plagued with issues, locking up the OS when you try to go into their dashboard

 Unfortunately, UAD wins the world record, year after year, for literally being the LAST to every support a Mac OS. It used to be Native Instruments was the one behind, but now it's UAD.  Latency is delay caused by signal processing, and you've probably experienced latency when recording with input monitoring. Latency makes performing a good take almost impossible, especially when playing to existing tracks. For me, this is a huge problem when recording vocals or electric guitar. With my old interface, there was always a delay between the moment I'd play a note on my guitar and the moment I'd hear that note through my headphones
