 That reference line starts here with the RT82 at $300 and goes all the way up to the RT85, which comes in at $500. And really the main difference between the RT82 and the RT85 and the RT83 and 84, the connections in between, are some different materials, and then also the cartridge. This one, the RT82, comes with an aluminum platter, whereas the RT85 would have an acrylic one. And then the other main difference is the cartridge

 But I don't think that vinyl and analog purists will mind the manual nature of the RT82 or other reference turntables. Another great feature built into the RT82 and the other reference line turntables that I briefly mentioned earlier are the adjustable feet underneath. These reference turntables have three adjustable rubber vibration isolating feet down here so that you can get the turntable to absolute level to get the best playback from your turntable. So once you have everything set up and you have it going through a preamp and into your speakers or receiver or headphones, how does it sound? Incredibly pure

Fluance RT82 Reference Turntable Review - YouTube

It’s definitely not overkill (it’s an entry level turntable) but I don’t think it’s the best you can do for the money. Also that Best Buy exclusive color is a crime against humanity.

I grabbed a Pro-Ject Essential III for $300 on Amazon. I was trying to decide between a U-Turn, Fluance RT82, & the E3. The biggest reason I got the E3 was it was available immediately. I LOVE it. I upgraded from the AT LP60, which I liked, but am super excited with the E3. Good luck with your decision.

Would y’all consider this a decent tt for someone new to all this or is it overkill for a beginner? Decided to just get my own tt

Fluance RT82 Turntable Unboxing & Setup - YouTube

 My favorite is the OM Pro S, and it has great bass and amazing sound quality (the other two are great too). I bought the RT 82 as an upgrade for my vintage Technics SL 235, and I thought the OM 10 cartridge was a win-win for me. It has a cool design and looks. However, I am disappointed with the T 82 sound and the OM cartridge (probably I got a crappy one)

The Fluance RT 82 came with the OM 10 cartridge, which I was looking for too. I own a couple of cartridges; Ortofon Concorde MK2, OM Pro S, and Audio-Technica AT-VM95E. My favorite is the OM Pro S, and it has great bass and amazing sound quality (the other two are great too). I bought the RT 82 as an upgrade for my vintage Technics SL 235, and I thought the OM 10 cartridge was a win-win for me

 The sound quality of the bass is not match to my SL 235. I switched cartridges (and switched the pre-amps and used different pre-amps), and the sound quality of the RT 82 improved, but the sound of my SL 235 was still better. You will get a good sound with the RT-82 if you get a decent cartridge (OM Pro S, MK3, or better), and I still recommend the RT 82 if you need a good turntable.

 It has a cool design and looks. However, I am disappointed with the T 82 sound and the OM cartridge (probably I got a crappy one). The sound quality of the bass is not match to my SL 235.  Next big difference is the platter, the platter here is done also out of MDF, it's heavier than the T1 but again because it's painted with very special lacquer which coming for sure from Austrian companies so we don't import this crazy, it's very high-end, it's also expensive. Why we don't use glass? This is the more expensive solution because you can balance the platter better. So all our high-end products are balanced platter, you know this from the car but it's effort, you need big machines for this, therefore it's a price. In higher end designs we do have then also vertical tracking angle adjustment because we think that over the time the customer will maybe go upgrade the turntable with a better cartridge which I recommend always because the cartridge is just a very very important part and every turntable will sound with a better cartridge

 One thing you have also to understand at any high-end product, any HiFi product is only as good as the weakest point so I can make here the best design when I use a shitty cable I have a shitty result. What is more special? I said we have this in different version, we realized that low-cost turntable tends to put the consumer everything on so they put a phono stage on, put a bluetooth stage on, USB output to record, 3345 switch, electronic everything but not every customer needs everything and the bigger problem is also all these parts which they think they give more or less free, they are more or less free because they are nothing worth because the components are very very low. What you have from a 50 cent component phono stage? Nothing. You have bad sound quality because a good phono stage you can't do with a small board with 50 cents

 When I go from outside to in it moves here in the holder and simply by simple physics we getting here more anti-skating power, you can go to any physics book and you will understand what a power parallelogram means, it's the correct way because a magnetic anti-skating has one anti-skating force, it doesn't change this force, here the force is changed by the positioning of the weight and that's the big difference therefore any high-end toner uses still this simple but correct way, it looks a little bit antique but it's definitely the correct way. So what I also want to mention is what you see also for every customer is very easy to realize in mass market a good turntable from a bad turntable, they only need to look at the cable, in the low-cost turntable you have just a cable, a 50 cents cable and here you have a wonderful cable, golden connectors, metal, housing and perfectly shielding. This cable is a so-called parallel symmetric cable which means plus and minus is separated because usually coax cable puts plus and minus separate but the ground of plus and minus are in one wire, why is this? Because the cartridge is full balanced source, you see you have here the plus and the minus left and right in different cables and this you have also here. But this is already $79 it's already quite reasonable because you find cables with metal connectors in balanced version you find also way over $100 so it's already but we included this because we know it's so important

 In the low cost layers we don't have the adjustability because customers usually upgrade in this area the turntable completely and not only the cartridge. So anti-skating, a lot of people criticize us about our gravity anti-skating, they think magnetic anti-skating are much more modern, I'm sorry I have to say the correct anti-skating is a gravity anti-skating, every high-end toner today does like this, why? Because the problem is that you have different skating force from out to inside because of the radius of the record, because the radius get here much more steep than out so have more force happening here and this force has to be compensated by the anti-skating. Oddly, when purchasing this turntable the sales 'adviser' assured me the tone arm weight would be all set up and ready to install as "we have taped it so that, to paraphrase "all you need to do is to line up the weight and slide it on. This caused me to think two things: 1) This is either really good customer service or 2) something is up. Well, guess what? It turns out the counterweight system on this turntable is a ridiculous Lou Goldberg contraption which the company has an elaborate rationale for but really what they are selling to you at a premium price is a fishing weight suspended by fishing line that is as easy to knock off from the tone arm as it is difficult to install, which it is. If you look this up online you will see that MANY people hate this set up and what the 'adviser' did was put a tie wrap on the end of the tone arm so that the flimsy, nearly invisible 2 pound test fishing line won't roll off the back of the wand and force one to struggle to re-install it on the tone arm: See the picture for the necessary fix to this rather cockamamie set up

 Well, guess what? I bought this because it has a built-in pre-amp, or stylus signal amplifier that is supposed to eliminate the need for an actual pre-amp and, while this is more or less true, the power switch is in the most inconvenient location possible, inaccessibly buried, as it is, well in from the edge of the base so that one can only turn it on and off by picking up the entire phonograph unit, often resulting in upsetting the rubber ring drive necessitating the fussy re-installation of it before one can play a record

DO NOT FALL FOR THE HYPE!!!  YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

 This is going to ensure that the speed is very stable and it's optimum in terms of stability and it's going to keep any resonance from affecting that as well and it kind of works on the premise of performance and style over just something that looks good in terms of a motor being on there but it is further improved by having an aluminium design on there and that affects the pulley too and it's just going to again provide much more stable speed. Now the Project Essential 3 has got a very good arm on it to be fair for its price point and kind of the budget level of turntable that it is. So it's pre-fitted with an 8.6 inch aluminium toner

 It's very rigid and it's lightweight which is ideal really for getting information off of a record and also tracking a record. The other thing at the top of the arm near the count weight is fitted with a gimbal bearing assembly and this allows much smoother tracking of the arm as it's going across the record so it's not going to have any jerky motions or potentially scratch or damage or distort the record. The tracking is further improved by the use of a sapphire bearing that is also used within the construction and again that's very hard material so it's going to be less subject to any vibration that's going to affect a turntable. The count weight on the back of the arm is very high quality as well and it can allow us to accommodate quite a wide range of cartridges because of it being more of a manual count weight so you've got various adjustments that you can make on that

 Project Essential 3 Turntable is available in several finishes, the standard finishes, we've got the black one here retail around £279. There's also a couple of special edition turntables, there's a George Harrison one and also a Beatles, these are available for £429 and there's limited numbers of these. I have seen the George Harrison and I have to say I thought it was very, very nice. Now one of the key additions to the new Essential 3 is on the top we have an acrylic platter
