 Think The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, you know, the good stuff. Anyway, in that conversation she mentioned that she would like to get a turntable so that she could listen to all of her old records again. Now fast forward to a few weeks ago, I was having a conversation with my brother and we decided that we would go in on a turntable for her as a Christmas present. Now if you've looked into buying a turntable, you'll know that they can range anywhere from $100 up into the thousands

 It also has a switch on the back for an auto stop feature. Now this is not the same as what some other turntables have where they have an auto return feature where once the record reaches the end the tone arm will actually return to the resting position. The auto stop feature on this turntable simply stops the platter from spinning. But stopping the platter, stopping the record isn't necessarily a good thing unless it stops perfectly because some of the issues with you're always supposed to lift the cue, the tone arm, the stylus off of the record before stopping the platter because when some turntables when they stop the platter can actually backtrack a little bit or the record can backtrack a little bit and moving in the reverse direction on a stylus can actually damage the stylus

 So it has this head shell and because the RT81 is essentially the same and has a better Audio-Technica cartridge you will be able to swap that out for at least the AT95E. I would assume that you could swap it out for some others like Ortofon carts but at least on the Amazon questions Fluance has actually responded saying that it only supports the one that it comes with but that might just be you know them covering their butts. And then at the back of the turntable you have the standard RCA outputs, the left and right channel, a switch to select between standard output and or line output and phono output so it does have, that's one of the other good things about this turntable especially for the price is that it comes with a built-in phono that you can disable if you decide to upgrade later on. And for the price I mean the built-in phono cartridge is pretty good

Fluance RT80 Review

 Cons: felt mat' Why only 3 out of 5 stars? The end of album stop was not properly set on the unit I received. It was set only a mm or so too close to spindle making it non functional. Shipping took over a month which will be blamed on covid, but has more to do with poor choice of shipper and cheapest rates. I would recommend this turntable as it has nothing else in this price range compares

 Decent cartridge, Good tone arm and smooth bearings. Anti-skate. Removable headshell. Decent preamp, with on/off switch

 The tone arm should be be level, not "floating" when you set the weight scale to zero. Adjust weight very gradually- hint: use the adj scale to help fine tune between above and below horizontal rather than guessing). I tossed the felt mat for a cork one. Felt is only good for old school DJs for slip effects

Should I get a LP60x or RT80 for my first turntable? I’ve heard good things about both

  The problems I encountered with motor speed have gone away - my thoughts are that it could have been debris on the LPs themselves, or my inexperience in cleaning the cart/needle. Also, could have been the motor itself was needing to self-adjust.  Either way, I'm not having any L/R channel issues, or motor speed issues. And I didn't have to do anything but balance the tonearm, set the anti-skate properly, clean my records and talk to other turntable nerds

The sound, when it all works well, is great (for a LP player at this price point and my old ears).  The problem is in its cartridge. Sometimes I'll hear the album well, then, in the middle of a song, the right channel (and it's always the right channel) will go out. Tried re-seating the cartridge and needle but it's really spotty

This turntable is awesome for someone who has an old vinyl collection they want to spin again, especially if you are not sure your records were kept perfectly. The sound is very good, and stands up well next to my Rega Planet CD player. The cartridge is not exotic, but really it sounds nice, nothing embarrassing here.  But I don't think that vinyl and analog purists will mind the manual nature of the RT82 or other reference turntables. Another great feature built into the RT82 and the other reference line turntables that I briefly mentioned earlier are the adjustable feet underneath. These reference turntables have three adjustable rubber vibration isolating feet down here so that you can get the turntable to absolute level to get the best playback from your turntable. So once you have everything set up and you have it going through a preamp and into your speakers or receiver or headphones, how does it sound? Incredibly pure

5 inch powered speakers as well, which they have put together a nice package on their website. We've been big fans of what Fluance is doing there. Attention to high fidelity audio without breaking the bank is something that should catch most audiophile's attention and are definitely worth a look. It’s definitely not overkill (it’s an entry level turntable) but I don’t think it’s the best you can do for the money. Also that Best Buy exclusive color is a crime against humanity.

I grabbed a Pro-Ject Essential III for $300 on Amazon. I was trying to decide between a U-Turn, Fluance RT82, & the E3. The biggest reason I got the E3 was it was available immediately. I LOVE it. I upgraded from the AT LP60, which I liked, but am super excited with the E3. Good luck with your decision.

Would y’all consider this a decent tt for someone new to all this or is it overkill for a beginner? Decided to just get my own tt

 My favorite is the OM Pro S, and it has great bass and amazing sound quality (the other two are great too). I bought the RT 82 as an upgrade for my vintage Technics SL 235, and I thought the OM 10 cartridge was a win-win for me. It has a cool design and looks. However, I am disappointed with the T 82 sound and the OM cartridge (probably I got a crappy one)

The Fluance RT 82 came with the OM 10 cartridge, which I was looking for too. I own a couple of cartridges; Ortofon Concorde MK2, OM Pro S, and Audio-Technica AT-VM95E. My favorite is the OM Pro S, and it has great bass and amazing sound quality (the other two are great too). I bought the RT 82 as an upgrade for my vintage Technics SL 235, and I thought the OM 10 cartridge was a win-win for me

 The sound quality of the bass is not match to my SL 235. I switched cartridges (and switched the pre-amps and used different pre-amps), and the sound quality of the RT 82 improved, but the sound of my SL 235 was still better. You will get a good sound with the RT-82 if you get a decent cartridge (OM Pro S, MK3, or better), and I still recommend the RT 82 if you need a good turntable.
