  - Forget about units that include a CO detector. Better as separate units because CO and smoke detectors should ideally be placed differently.  - The Nest units have brilliant features but are $115 each (!!!) and are photoelectric only.  - If your house is not wired, then use conventional battery-powered units, $15-20

 No hint why but it took an hour with the ladder unplugging them. Then a few days ago, another false alarm (5 AM) and one is glowing red.  The batteries I removed from the units tested good (30 mV under load less than new batteries) so I will use them for flashlights.  More notes:  - We are supposed to replace smoke alarms every 10 years

I bought seven of these to replace the wire-connected units in my house. A few key advantages over the comparable Kidde PI2010:  Most important is that the LED tells you which one sounded the alarm AND which one needs a new battery. If you have ever stood in a house with wired alarms at 2 in the freeekin' morning, trying to pinpoint the damn -bip- every minute, you will know how much swearing this feature eliminates. Trust me: This feature is a must

 A call to First Alert helped - the CS guy asked if we'd tried a reset, yet. He admitted the procedure wasn't in all of the enclosed manuals.  Here's the Reset procedure: remove detector from bracket, disconnect from house power (we needed a flat screwdriver to release plug latch), remove batteries, close battery tray, press and hold test button for 15 seconds, reinstall batteries and close tray (it will chirp), reconnect to house power, reinstall detector in bracket on ceiling or wherever, press Test button to ensure everything's hooked up and functioning. That did fix our "low battery" chirp

This is a pretty good smoke detector. We ordered six of them to replace increasingly annoying, late-night-chirping, 10 year old units by another manufacturer. We wanted a dual sensor (photoelectric and ionization) detector with 10-year batteries but were unable to find any that fit the bill, and so settled for the 3120B - at least the batteries were AA instead of the more expensive 9 volt. We've had a little trouble with them - the reason for four stars instead of five

Good unit but needs better documentation

 Strip 1/2" off the ends of the new wires. In my case, two of the wires were pre-stripped, but the orange interconnect wire needed to be stripped. Batteries were NOT included

Purchased qty 6 of the BRK3120B photoelectric/Ionization, qty 2 BRK SC7010B Carbon Monoxide/Photoelectric, and Qty 1 BRK HD6135FB 135F fixed 15F rise heat detector. All of these are AC/DC battery back-up detectors that are wired off same AC circuit and all have their Orange wires all connected in Parallel as interconnected so any alarm event will sound every detectors alarm. All were tested for this interconnection and all worked as designed. They all replaced FireX G13 20 year old detectors and one older heat sensor

  Only drawback is the BRK HD6135FB requires the 9V (rectangular) battery and all the rest of the detectors use two AA 3V batteries. Not a big deal but it would be nice if all detectors used the same configuration.  I called BRK for a technical questions because the manual with the Heat Detector BRK HD6135FB did not indicate that it would work with their BRK 3120B sensors. I got through on first call and they were able to tell me they will work fine with the other two sensors I bought

 All were tested for this interconnection and all worked as designed. They all replaced FireX G13 20 year old detectors and one older heat sensor.  The good things about all the above new Detectors is the plug connector pigtails are all the same. However the existing FireX plug connector did not work with the new BRK, so each pigtail that came with the BRK's had to be rewired in the junction boxes

Photoelectric units generally produce fewer “false alarms” from cooking, but react quickly detecting the smoldering fire types

At first blush, I thought this might be the way to go, but call me old school, in that I believe it’s better to keep things simple, by having separate Smoke Detector and CO Detectors

 Lastly, be sure to replace any brand of smoke detectors after 10 years from their manufacturing date (usually found on the back of the alarm). Good Luck - I hope this helps.

 The next day, I heard 3 chirps come from the guest room, silent for about 15 minutes, and the 3 more chirps, then nothing for several more hours. This same issue repeats itself in the master bedroom, and my son's room (all units on the upper level of our house). According to the owner's manual, 3 chirps every five minutes means a malfunction and you should replace the unit immediately. I had just barely purchased the units and they're already malfunctioning? My issue with this is that it isn't happening every five minutes, it is completely a guess when the next chirp will be

I have had these units for over a year now and they are driving me insane! I decided to replace all the original smoke detectors in my house which was built in 1996. Upon completing research, I found that Consumer Reports rates these units as the best smoke only units on the market, so I went with them. Install was seamless, replaced the pigtails and connected to house electric, no issues. About an hour after installing them, the unit in my daughters room chirped 3 times and then five minutes later it did it again, and then nothing for a couple of hours and then it did it again, 3 chirps, and then silent for the rest of the day

.I am switching to Kiddie brand to see if the issue continues. If it does, I will get an electrician to check it out. First Alert smoke detectors are no bueno for this house

 For the price of these, you expect top quality but I've personally had better luck with cheap $15 each builder-grade USI ones over the course of several decades of home ownership.

This battery has been working well so far. I have the newer white version, with v2 firmware. I got it because I have an outlet attached CO/Propane detector (Kidde KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk), which nobody makes a "smart" explosive gas detector for propane. I cannot speak to battery life, as the detector I have is hard-wired and not designed to run for long on battery (24-48 hrs

No major issues so far.

 I’d say only 2 out of 3 tests succeeded in "alarm ringing" notifications getting sent to my phones. (When they did go thru, they always sounded on both phones). A 67% success rate at detecting the alarm is pretty poor. - The battery only lasted two weeks before my alarm started chirping, even though the app thinks battery levels are good

 I’m replacing this with a regular 9V lithium. While having smart features is nice, reliability is far more important in a passive but extremely vital monitoring device like a smoke detector. The idea behind the product is promising, but I would stay away until they address these major issues.
