 Now moving on to the treble region I think K5 Pro is mostly like a chameleon so sometimes the cymbals and the hi-hats are really detailed and pushed really on the same level with the rest so and sometimes I think it rolls it just a little bit for this natural presentation. So what was clear to me is that treble intensive tracks still had a lot of presence in this area but without being aggressive so speaking about it I think the aggressiveness will never be present on the K5 Pro it just can't be spotted. Now in terms of detail retrieval I think it's quite good but since K5 Pro is not boosting the subsonic treble area you have this fake impression that it has a lower clarity and it doesn't sound as detailed so I fired some high resolution files and some DSD material and it showed me pretty good detail retrieval on the right music and it can be certainly be spotted. Ok guys moving on to the conclusion I'm glad if you didn't forget the old customers that are still shopping for desktop class DAC and headphone amp units and if you are still using an older E07K, E17K, E18 from Fio I think I found your replacement

 Can you ask for more at $150? I can personally and if you are on a low budget and if headphone listening is important to you then I consider it basically among the best current productions to identify DAC amp money can buy at this moment.  Hey guys, what's up, Sando here back with another video, today I have a brand new product from Theo called K5 Pro, that is a desktop DAC and headphone amp combo, let's check it out together and see what's inside. Ok guys, so let's unbox it and see what's inside. So we have your K5 Pro with this protective small foam, you have your usual paperwork, you have your warranty information, your quick start guide, ok, and there is another box inside what carries a USB type B cable, you have headphone adapter, you have spare 4 silicone heat, you have your power cable and of course you have your external power brick. And that is basically what can be found inside the package

 Now listening to my usual bass tracks revealed that it loses close to zero sub bass information so all in all my electronic tracks sounded as impressive and as engaging as I remember them on my big rig so with the Hi-Fi many area I was losing maybe around 2 or 1 or 2 decibels of sub bass information compared to my reference setup. I think mid bass sounded linear and very defined so very present as well among the best parts of K5 Pro for sure I think. So I can't fault anything in terms of mid bass performance it sounds pretty clean it sounds quite detailed and quite layered as well so yes I even spotted multiple layers of it so all in all if you care about bass I think K5 Pro will render it nicely without overdoing it to bass head levels I think. So the transition to the lower mid range is done smoothly without a single drop in the frequency area and I believe the mid range is absolutely the best part of it and for very good reason since the AKM chipsets were always impressive in terms of mid range department

FiiO K5 PRO Review

FiiO K5 Pro ESS The FiiO K5 Pro ESS is a compact sized, high performance desktop DAC and preamplifier with a headphone amplifier.

Sound quality is more or less on the same level but the EX5 has a slight edge when it comes to extra clarity, better definition and a touch more expanded and holographic soundstage.

Sound quality is more or less the same, maybe a touch more refined and technical with some enhanced clarity and definition between the lines.

   The sound is full, almost visceral, not dry or lean with deeply extended bass which stays well controlled, tight and multi-layered.

FiiO K5 Pro ESS

 It already, just taken as a standalone unit, sounds damn good, but when you figure in the price point, it sounds surprisingly good. Very clean, great separation, great soundstage, no background. This unit pushes up against some of like Drop's much more expensive DAC-AMP combo units. It sounds, to me, cleaner than the Shitstack, the Hell, the ARC V1 and V2, and against the OL Atom stack, I noticed very little difference

 But if you're planning on ever using it as a standalone DAC to feed a different amp, this is not ideal. To further complicate things, the outputs and the headphone out are both active at the same time. Normally you could have a switch here that would toggle between which output was active, or more commonly, it's an auto on-off when you plug in or unplug your headphones, but that's not the case here. Pretty weird design choice

 The Sundara, the 1990, the TRX00. Main level 1 will handle your IEMs, maybe a little more than you'd expect there for that first power level. My JVC's were good at about 12 o'clock. The Zeus, on the other hand, barely needed past 10 o'clock, and that's talking about a control that snaps on at 7 o'clock and doesn't really start to increase volume at all until about 9 o'clock

 But for $150, how does it sound? The answer? Surprisingly good. I don't say that lightly. It already, just taken as a standalone unit, sounds damn good, but when you figure in the price point, it sounds surprisingly good. Very clean, great separation, great soundstage, no background

FiiO K5 Pro DAC AMP Review: $150 Desktop BANGER

 So far, I’m really impressed. Sound stage is a night and day difference, and the midrange is just fabulous.

I was torn between FiiO K5 Pro and iFi Zen DAC but the option of having a balanced connection and the fact that the improved Zen DAC V2 was just released made me choose the latter. I then waited another week for the Yongsheng balanced cable to arrive. So far, I’m really impressed. Sound stage is a night and day difference, and the midrange is just fabulous

This more of a general question. Could a software EQ with something like a K5 pro achieve the same bass boost sound as the switch on the ifi zen dac? Or is there some difference when the bass boost is applied at the amp / dac level rather than software EQ?

Nice setup man, I recently got into this whole audiophile experience. I chose Meze 99 neo, since I wanted a closed back headphone. I am satisfied but need to know whether an amp or hi res player would make a difference.

Finally, I got my first audiophile headphone setup. The HiFiMAN Sundara and iFi Zen DAC!

 Okay currently it's not connected, let me do that really quickly and we'll continue. Okay, it's now connected and you can see when I turn it on there is a red light around the volume knob, that means it's powered but there is no signal coming in. And when you actually play some music it turns blue, at least for a standard resolution quality, CD quality and such. When you play some high-res music it turns green and so on

 It has insane amount of power for this price range it sounds really nice, energetic but calm at the same time. Hi-Fi ZenDuck sounds great but it's lacking power a little bit. It's really good for less demanding headphones maybe not as good for hungrier and heavier loads. However I do feel that ZenDuck is better duck if your main purpose is to put it in a Hi-Fi system connected to an integrated amp

 I immediately liked what I heard. A lot of details but very neutral sound. It's not that type of sound with details that are tacky and tiring. And when I actually move back to K5 Pro and listen it for several minutes I already forget about those small differences, those differences that I think most people would expect bigger gap for that price difference

 That said I feel that K5 Pro here is definitely a better headphone amp. It's better combo as a whole if you are using it with headphones. It has insane amount of power for this price range it sounds really nice, energetic but calm at the same time. Hi-Fi ZenDuck sounds great but it's lacking power a little bit

Well built, convenient size and connection options, aesthetically pretty neutral(it won't stand out anywhere, for better or worse) For the part that really matters... It's good

 The knob is so smooth and the overall equipment looks amazing by design. Use these for my gaming headphones and I get way better audio with this. The headphones I use are from sennheiser and it was advised that I get an amp for them to power the sound enough to come through the headphones. My audio is next level at this point and I love it thanks to this amazing piece of equipment

 It's slightly warm, and the Sylvania tube is a massive upgrade from the stock one. The Schiit SYS determines which amp serves as the preamp for the Koss energizer and acts as a volume control.

I've finally got my amp stack in a clean looking state. 

The DAC is a Schiit Gungnir D-S (I know, I know but I like how it sounds).  Currently it's not sitting under the stack due to not having a long enough RCA to go to my stereo system so it's awkwardly sitting on my cocktail table until that comes in. 

The amps are an Elekit TU-882 with GE tubes and a Schiit Vali 2 with a Sylvania 'black plate' tube.  The amp is selected using the Bereford switch.  

The Elekit is 200mw and has only 1 gain setting which is basically KILL.  As such I have to use my IFI IEMATCH for most cans.  Since it's an OTC amp it has no issue whatsoever pairing with low impedance cans as output impedance is 2-3ohms.  There are 3 impedance settings for the transformer so it's an extremely flexible amp.  Has excellent bass definition and is bass and low treble forward. 

The Vali 2 isn't an amp I like very much to be honest, *except as a preamp*.  As a main amp it's cleaner than the Elekit and smoother sounding, but I just find myself always plugging into the Elekit.  It's slightly warm, and the Sylvania tube is a massive upgrade from the stock one. 

The Schiit SYS determines which amp serves as the preamp for the Koss energizer and acts as a volume control.  Personally I find the Koss to sound far better with a tube preamp.  The Elekit is more bassy and low-treble forward and 'raw'.  The Vali is very relaxed, clean, and slightly warm with the Sylvania. Which one I prefer depends on my mood.

Next step is to add a SS amp (looking at the Geshelli Archel 2.5 Pro) and get the DAC under the stack, which will require a BNC converter since USB doesn't like to travel long distances.

Amp stack finally coming together

 That's the beauty of the Vali 2! It is more than compatible with other tubes on the market. The bottomline for me is the clarity and sound quality of this amplifier. You lose some of the signal from a solid state preamp, to the receiver, and finally to your headphones. This has historically, for me at least, resulted in a muddy/stuffy output

 The fact that you can tube roll with this amplifier is a huge plus. The stock tube that comes with the amp does the job, but I have already ordered an ECC88 to swap it out with. That's the beauty of the Vali 2! It is more than compatible with other tubes on the market. The bottomline for me is the clarity and sound quality of this amplifier
