 but I'm not gonna be playing in Ultra today because this is the American original 60s model and I chose it because it's pretty much the classic setup for what the Jazz Master built its foundation on. You got to jazz master pickups in the center. These are not 2p 90s. They are single coils designed specifically for the Jazz Master just a little bit wider, more mellow pickups

 This tone and this volume and this toggle switch I have nothing to do with it. So you're working specifically with this neck pickup. but I think you'll hear it's a it's a much more rhythm based, kind of dark in tone and these two rollers right here become your volume and your tone control respectively. So for this, you can do a lot of very pretty balanced cord stuff, or you can kind of mess with that tone and get some funkier tone rolled off leads going

 One of my favorite players of all time. Nels Cline In Wilco plays this guitar all over. He uses it very famously on the solo for Impossible' Germany which just has one of the coolest stones I've ever heard in my life. but you know you can hear those kind of rounded, warm mellow tones that you might associate with a jazz player

Beautiful guitar, don’t get me wrong, however, I’m giving this 3 stars for the horrendous set up it came with. Intonation was wack, truss rod was wack, saddles were wack, a string actually unwound from the bridge when I used the whammy bar. The fret ends were also very sharp. My verdict is that if you’re a little hands on and know how to fix these minor issues it’s a good buy, but for beginners or ones that are scared to work on a guitar you’ll have to pay for a professional setup which can range from 50-100$ so you make the call if you wanna spend the money

I thought it was a bit overpriced with a £1000 starting bid considering everything, and I wasn't in a position to go and collect it, and it was relisted a number of times and never sold so I thought I would wait until the seller reduced the price a bit, and didn't buy it. Then the listing ended and it never went back up again. I still slightly regret not buying it, because those old sixties Fender offsets and student guitars are just *so* cool, but they're pretty uncommon on this side of the Atlantic.

Looking for a little inspiration, classing myself as a new player, returning after a 15 year hiatus since I last put any real effort into learning and seem to be in the right place mentally where I'm back into it, and loving it.

Problem is I want all the gear, but have no idea. I'd love to hear what people aspire to own, any style/genre, any price, it just needs to be something special, extra points for why...

 But it was my review yesterday of the Parallel Universe Jazz Tele that really inspired me to go for this one today. It also kind of gave me a slight frame of reference to know what to expect and made me realize just how high-tech this thing really is. So first off, unlike all the other Ultra series guitars, the Jazz Master body shape is actually brand new to the high-end lineup offender. It had no Elite counterpart to replace because it just didn't exist in that lineup

 so everything looks good here. If you order one of these brand new, you get a nice deluxe hardshell case. It's got the TSA styled latches you get three of them, one of them locks, and a nice handle and the interior is just a nice little grey color. And you get a plethora of case candy here

Well, first off, we have the next generation of noiseless pickups. but at the same time, it's the first generation of Jazz Master noiseless pickups.  There we go, coming around, and there's our binding, binding on the side of the fretboard, again the same set neck on this one, this time no wood grain to see, just this lovely spance of glossy finish, absolutely blemish free, very nice indeed. Coming back, this one's got a pick guard, nice sort of pearly looking thing, again same quick release bridge, same pickups, same electronic settings, same switch, but it does sound really different. So this is fingerstyle on both pickups, and we'll just zoom through these and we'll do the pickups individually as well. Seems to have an even more phased sound between the two pickups, now this one the action feels like it's set just a little bit on the low side, that would be easy to adjust when you've got your new instrument home, so there's a little couple of rattles on this one but I wouldn't say that was anything particularly scary to sort out

 Just a moment to note the strap pegs as well, strap buttons rather, and there's no compartment holes or anything like that, no black plastic with screws in it around the back here, so it looks really, really nice and neat. Round we go. Back onto the front of the instrument, two pickups, very, very nice indeed, I love these chrome tops, I think that looks really nice with the hardware. Still lots of character in there, I'm not losing too much top end by actually rolling that tone control all the way back

Let's switch over to the back pickup, do the same again, couple of little buzzes there, it sounds really nice, I think it doesn't sound quite as full as the 200, maybe it's just the differences between the two basses, still a very reusable sound, let's go and listen to both at the same time, and what I'm going to do is I'm going to roll the tone off so we can see how much of that low rumble we can get out the bass as well, here we go. Yeah, good, good, very very nice, again nice and rounded, you could rumble away in maybe a jazz quartet or something like that, nothing too offensive there but a really nice sort of colour to the sound as well

 We have got two really cool basses for you to check out today, both from Ibanez in the

 Artcore range, the AGB-200, and we're also going to be looking at the AGB-260 in just

 Now, as usual, we'll get up to the top of the bass, work down the neck, listen to some

 of the tones when we get down to the body, and then we'll switch over to the 260 and

 For those of you who like something a little bit different, some different styling versus

 our usual precisions and our jazzes and basses like that, something a bit cool, maybe a bit

 Up at the headstock then, two aside tuning keys, and I'm going to flip the bass over

 as usual, and we'll have a little lick round the back, like so.

 Nice small tuning keys with these nice white pegs on them, gives it that sort of really

 Round the back of the neck, which I understand is a three-piece maple and naya toe, I actually

 had to look up naya toe, apparently it is an Indonesian hardwood, but I can't tell you

 Super, super nice skinny neck, and as I look further down the body, you can see that we've

 got a set neck, glued in, and then down onto the body here, and I'm just going to roll

 the bass over so you can see that we've also got a bound neck, and actually, as we go around,

 you'll see that actually the whole body is bound as well, like so.

 Fretboard on this particular beast is Laurel, and actually, if you look really closely,

 I love some nice colour differences in there as well.

 See the darker lines in there, and actually, I think that's really interesting.

 Don't get me wrong, I really like a big naked board with no markers or anything, but I also

 like something with a bit of texture, and I think that's really, really nice.

 The neck feels very, very skinny, it is super nice in the hand, and the action on this particular

 Coming down the fretboard, really nice finished fretwork, medium-sized frets, so if you're

 used to something a bit more jumbo, then you're going to want to give this a bit of a workout.

 For me, I actually prefer medium-sized frets, they feel quite nice under the fingers.

 As I come down the 22 fretboard, we are onto the body, which, have a closer look at this,

 I'll roll it forward again, and you can see that we've got this pseudo-hollow body thing

 going on, and we have got maple for the top, sides, and back, looks really, really nice,

 I'll just roll the base forward, and you can see that lovely glossy finish, and again,

 the grain looks super, super nice around the back, like I say.

 Back onto the front of the instrument, two pickups, very, very nice indeed, I love these
