 but I'm not gonna be playing in Ultra today because this is the American original 60s model and I chose it because it's pretty much the classic setup for what the Jazz Master built its foundation on. You got to jazz master pickups in the center. These are not 2p 90s. They are single coils designed specifically for the Jazz Master just a little bit wider, more mellow pickups

 This tone and this volume and this toggle switch I have nothing to do with it. So you're working specifically with this neck pickup. but I think you'll hear it's a it's a much more rhythm based, kind of dark in tone and these two rollers right here become your volume and your tone control respectively. So for this, you can do a lot of very pretty balanced cord stuff, or you can kind of mess with that tone and get some funkier tone rolled off leads going

 One of my favorite players of all time. Nels Cline In Wilco plays this guitar all over. He uses it very famously on the solo for Impossible' Germany which just has one of the coolest stones I've ever heard in my life. but you know you can hear those kind of rounded, warm mellow tones that you might associate with a jazz player

Beautiful guitar, don’t get me wrong, however, I’m giving this 3 stars for the horrendous set up it came with. Intonation was wack, truss rod was wack, saddles were wack, a string actually unwound from the bridge when I used the whammy bar. The fret ends were also very sharp. My verdict is that if you’re a little hands on and know how to fix these minor issues it’s a good buy, but for beginners or ones that are scared to work on a guitar you’ll have to pay for a professional setup which can range from 50-100$ so you make the call if you wanna spend the money

I thought it was a bit overpriced with a £1000 starting bid considering everything, and I wasn't in a position to go and collect it, and it was relisted a number of times and never sold so I thought I would wait until the seller reduced the price a bit, and didn't buy it. Then the listing ended and it never went back up again. I still slightly regret not buying it, because those old sixties Fender offsets and student guitars are just *so* cool, but they're pretty uncommon on this side of the Atlantic.

Looking for a little inspiration, classing myself as a new player, returning after a 15 year hiatus since I last put any real effort into learning and seem to be in the right place mentally where I'm back into it, and loving it.

Problem is I want all the gear, but have no idea. I'd love to hear what people aspire to own, any style/genre, any price, it just needs to be something special, extra points for why...

 But it was my review yesterday of the Parallel Universe Jazz Tele that really inspired me to go for this one today. It also kind of gave me a slight frame of reference to know what to expect and made me realize just how high-tech this thing really is. So first off, unlike all the other Ultra series guitars, the Jazz Master body shape is actually brand new to the high-end lineup offender. It had no Elite counterpart to replace because it just didn't exist in that lineup

 Obviously, they're different guitars and different pickups, but those Firebird pickups in that guitar is such a unique sound and I don't know of any other guitar other than the Firebird 5 that will do that thing and I think that's really special. Now, we can't talk about the Firebird without talking about the players that made these guitars legendary, because much like other Gibson models of the time period, the Firebird actually wasn't a huge commercial success. They didn't sell a ton of them, but there's a handful of players that really put these guitars on the map through the 60s, all the way to today. First and foremost, the Stones pick these up

 In around 1962, Ted Mccarty meets a man named Ray Dietrich. Now, Ray Dietrich is the reason the Firebird exists, and he's a very interesting character. see he wasn't a guitar builder, a musician, or guitar designer at all. He was a car designer

These Firebird pickups through cranked twin reverbs on stage was a huge part of that searing Johnny Winner blues sound. and that's how I first got turned on to the Firebird. Gibson's Weirdest Guitar | What Is The Firebird Sound?

I actually straight traded DOWN a 2017 Gibson Firebird for a 2012 Gibson Studio Deluxe with upgrades. It's an iced tea burst finish with Bareknuckle Abraxas pickups. The neck isn't a slim taper 60s nor is it a fat chunky 50s neck. It's right in between and the most comfortable neck I've every played

Here's mine. It's an Epiphone LP Standard. The input jack can't be tightened much more than finger tight without the signal cutting out. The bridge pickup sporadically stops working until I scream at and fiddle with the input jack. I swear it's incorrectly grounded because it buzzes something rotten. There's a horrific amount of fret buzz and it's got loads of knocks in it. And to top it off whilst the humbuckers sound fine normally, when you coil tap them they sound more lifeless than the nearest graveyard.

Despite all this I almost always pick it up over my others, some of which are double the price and definitely play much better.

[DISCUSSION] What's the story behind your main guitar?

 Really slick looking now. I think it's really important to call out that with the Custom Shop Firebird It doesn't have the mini humbuckers that we've come to associate with. Firebirds It has full-sized humbuckers so that really turns it into kind of a little bit of a different beast. Very cool guitar, but I Want to make sure you take that into consideration

 18 and 19 models are still available at some of the big online retailers, so keep that in mind now. One thing to keep in mind about those budget Firebirds is that the one key differentiating factor between those and the standard Firebird is they do not have the neck through body design. They have a set neck like you'll find on a Les, Paul or an SG etc. But they don't have that classic neck through body design where it goes all the way through the body which is one of the you know kind of the hallmarks of the original Firebird so keep that in mind

 The 19 had low frets. these are medium jumbo I like that I like that change. There is one change that I don't like and I Talked about this in the Flying V video. the original Collection Flying V video they are no longer Gibson is no longer cryogenically freezing their frets and that treatment according to Gibson was supposed to make the frets last up to four times longer

 Now for the Firebird, you're only going to find the Firebird in the original collection and the Custom Shop There is no modern collection. Firebird Now if you look at the big five from Gibson that I like to call the big Five solid bodies, that is. We've got the Les Paul, SG flying the Explorer and Firebird right of those. the Firebirds The only one where you're not going to find a modern collection version

 It's a definitely, I want to be, if I was in a band and I just needed two or three guitars to just look different, that's where I'm going. That's where you're going, is it? I think so. If you have white linen suit on and you're playing this, you've been rocking it, wouldn't you? Wow.  Yes. You've had variants, some with the headstock this way around, some with the headstock the other way around, some with the banjo style tuners. Oh, that way in there. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

 I'm used to that, full lock out. Why, can you explain to me why these are so close to each other, the two volume? Because they're just, they've got very quiet voices. If you've got five fingers, man. If they're trying to speak to each other and they're too far apart, the volume can't speak
