I decided to get the Hot Rod DeVille 410, basically a big brother to the Princeton tube amp: Four 10 inch speakers instead of one, more watts, more controls, but still compact enough that one could carry it around if need be. This is a wonderful amp. For in-house practice I can't even turn the volume more than halfway up without making my ears hurt. The dials allow some very fine sculpting of generated sounds, but if you don't want to let the inner sound engineer spend too much time on the dashboard, just zero the effects and play it straight with limited volume and basic equalization

A five watt tube amp is quite loud, A 12 inch speaker is needed to produce the best sound. A 10 inch speaker doesn't cut it.

Also, I have to really dial back the volume knob on my Telecaster when the gain is high enough for max distortion. With the master volume up anywhere past 2 on the amp, the noise levels are too high-almost dangerous. To compensate the noise and still produce a super amount of distortion, I dial back the vol on my guitar.

I play at home in a small converted bedroom. With the exception of the wattage it had all the features I wanted. I would've been happy with 15 watts, I'm sure, but I wanted the preamp in-out and two channels.
