 The reverb and effects are very good, with less "digital" sound than I am used to with simulated effects. Still, I prefer my separate Boss pedals that have a lot more control for the delay and chorus. But the Champion effects are plenty good enough for practice without hauling out my pedalboard.  BTW, the amp works fine with a two button footswitch P/N 0071359000 (which isn't clear in the online info or brief instruction manual)

 This amp will likely outlast me, and that's plenty good enough.  The amp has excellent tone on the clean side, similar to a Twin etc. The dirty side has some nice adjustments (as heard in the demo videos). It's plenty loud enough for practice and small venues, and will mic just as well as any other amp for larger venues

 So I treated myself to a Fender Champion 40 and am very, very pleased with the quality and sound (and light weight!). It's clearly not a military-grade device, but then neither am I. This amp will likely outlast me, and that's plenty good enough.  The amp has excellent tone on the clean side, similar to a Twin etc

 I went amp-less for several years, then bought a gadget called FootNote that combines a pedal board with a practice amp. That worked "OK" at best---too large for a pedal board, too quiet for an amp. So I treated myself to a Fender Champion 40 and am very, very pleased with the quality and sound (and light weight!). It's clearly not a military-grade device, but then neither am I

 It's needs to sound good at low lines. It needs to sound big at low volumes. Needs to have everything you need. This thing with a speaker upgrade which I'm going to show you later I'm upgrading to a Celestial Aquila

 the Fender Supersonic which is their take on a higher gain amp. I think it's the best overdrive tone so that's what I kept going here on the Essence L5 Bridge Maker and the reverse-flash to let [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you.

 and then it's a grab and go for our smaller jam sessions, possibly even like coffeehouse gigs, whatever. Ridiculously lightweight. Needless to say. so I'm gonna do three sound samples with the stock speaker I'm gonna have the toes straight up for all of these demos

 Only thing it doesn't have as a tuner. Okay, so that's pretty much it. It's needs to sound good at low lines. It needs to sound big at low volumes

Best Low-Volume Amp: A 20-Year Quest

 Even nicer is it comes with the channel/effects switch pedal included that has the Velcro attachment straps inside the cabinet to transport the pedal and cables. Effects loops is there to grow your own sound and this is a great amp that'll grow with you till you become a rockstar and have roadies lugging your amp stacks around. Best 212 value there currently is next to the Boss katana (which is almost twice the price) Awesome analog-like tactile control without convoluted options for easy dialing in and tweaking your sounds.  But all the other features of this amp make up for the missing spring reverb. I think I will buy the 50xl next.  Additional Note: I added a speaker jack for an external speaker with a DPDT switch mounted on the same bracket so that I can attach an external speaker. I can switch back and forth between the internal and external

 Did I void warranty, probably so. But with a Eminence Legend 1275 12" Guitar Speaker mounted in a prefabbed sub woofer box, this amp sounds so much better. And since the speaker is larger, more air is displaced. I can feel the vibes

 I just hope this speaker can handle it as well as the robust ones made in the old days. The digital reverb is ok. But all the other features of this amp make up for the missing spring reverb. I think I will buy the 50xl next

 Alright, here we go. So you have your good little Fender Champion 20. It gives you gives you a little bit of the features. The Champion 20 20 watts 1/8 inch special design speaker 1 channel with selectable voicings

 So if you want a cleaner sound, turn the gain down and then the master volume, then you have your voice. This is different types of Fender amplifiers or different sounds tweed blackface but you guys get the British in the metal. so it's different sounds, different voices. It's amazing though with killer sound, tons of function, built like a tank, and prettier than any furniture I own. I adore this amp.

I currently have an Orange Crush 20RT that I may have to replace in the near future. It’s starting to have some issues, and it would probably cost more than it’s worth to fix them. Overall, I enjoy the amp and the tones I get from it, but I’m wondering what others might recommend. I’m still a novice player and am still learning a lot, but I don’t want to have a crap amp.

While I’m learning, I’ve found myself playing along to a lot of blues backing tracks and really enjoy that. Eventually, I want to be able to play more rock and hard rock. I don’t know if I’ll ever get to the point where I can play their songs, but Some of my favorites are Aerosmith, Metallica, Alter Bridge, Sevendust, AC/DC, Black Label Society, Foo Fighters, and other similar bands.

I only play at home, so I don’t need anything that gets super loud. I’ve never had the 20RT more than half-way up.

I also don’t need a lot of effects in it. I had a Line6 Spider before, and there were too many options. Something with two channels that I can put my handful of pedals (OD, distortion, chorus, and delay) through is perfect.

Since I do play through headphones at times, I like having an Aux In port.

I would say my budget is around the $250 mark, plus or minus a little.

Edit: I’m 45 and just really getting started. I’m only going to play at home for myself. I don’t need something for gigging in the future. I don’t need top of the line. I just need a good sounding, solid practice amp for playing at home.
