Wired Vertical "Gaming" Mouse
I purchased this mouse as a potential replacement for a wireless vertical mouse that I'm trying to get replaced under warranty, but don't know if that's possible. So I was hoping that this would be a better alternative since it only cost $10, but I find this product disappointing at $17. Here are the Pros: - It's a vertical mouse, so it greatly reduces hand and wrist strain, including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - It has a pair of nice LED light strips near the bottom edge of both sides - It has four high DPI settings; I'm used to 1600 DPI from my old mouse, so 3200 is too high while 2400 isn't too bad after dropping down the Windows mouse speed setting a couple of notches (it was maxed) - When using the DPI cycling button, the LED strips change to a specific color to indicate the speed, as described in the included "instructions" booklet: 1200=blue, 1600=dark purple, 2400=red, 3200=light purple (though 1600 and 3200 are very similar to my eyes); my old mouse didn't have any indicator showing the current DPI setting, but since the color-specific light on this mouse is only momentary, it's not all that useful - The scroll wheel has little bumps on it to ensure that your finger can easily roll it, which is enhanced by the fact that only light pressure is needed; my old mouse's wheel is fairly slick and requires significantly more pressure - The wheel clicks with relatively light pressure as well, another nice difference compared to my old mouse since I use it fairly often - The texture on the mouse has quite a nice, soft feel to it that I find pleasant - It's wired, so there's no need to replace batteries or recharge it With all of those Pros, it may seem odd that my overall rating is a 3. So let's look at the Cons, in order of personal annoyance: - The soft texture on the mouse makes it very difficult to pick up and move; even with a higher DPI setting, I still need to "reset" the location of the mouse every so often due to two high resolution monitors, so the slickness makes this more difficult than necessary - The mouse is significantly heavier than my old mouse, so relocating it is even more difficult - The bottom of the mouse has a sharp 90º edge that makes it even more difficult to relocate the mouse using a "tilt and slide" maneuver that I got used to using with my old mouse since it's bottom edge is beveled and smooth - The mouse's top edge is too tall for me to use with my desk's slide-out keyboard tray; I have the lay this mouse down on its side so that it doesn't get jammed under the desktop's board and cause problems closing the tray, and even then I have to lay it down a very specific way so that it doesn't get scraped by the bracket that joins the parts of the desk together! - The feet on the bottom of the mouse are significantly less slick than my old mouse, so moving the mouse around requires more physical effort; this was immediately noticeable and disappointing, though I find it less noticeable after a few hours of use - The LED strips only show the color of the current DPI setting for about four seconds, then they begin cycling through the same four colors, so finding out the current DPI setting means cycling through all four again - The included "T-20 PROGRAMMING Vertical Game Mouse [ Instructions ]" booklet provides no instructions whatsoever, instead offering only the basic labeled diagrams and list of specifications in multiple languages that you get with any modern device from China, with 50% of that content also listed on the box it comes in To sum up, the only things that make this a "gaming" mouse are the DPI settings and the LED strips that provide very little functionality or flexibility
