I'm not a cold sleeper but I've been using a custom EE Revelation for about 2 solid years now. I thru hiked the AT with it, so at this point I've got a couple hundred nights in the thing. It's a double wide/950 fill/10D/7D. I would highly recommend them, just insane quality and it was my favorite piece of gear

Location/temp range/specific trip description: The LCT will be my shakedown trip, but I'm hoping to use similar gear for a lot of 2-3 night trips in Oregon, Washington, and California this year (this is also why I'm not including the Bare Boxer in my base weight - it won't get used on most trips I want to do with this setup, LCT is an exception).
Goal Baseweight (BPW): Sub-9
Budget: up to $1k combined for sleep system and shelter upgrades
Non-negotiable Items: N/A nothing is sacred
Solo or with another person?: Solo
Additional Information: Would *love* some quilt recommendations with actual usage experience from fellow cold sleepers.

Lost Coast Trail + Summer West Coast Fastpacking

 It is the first hammock setup I have had - but haven't found a reason to change - works great. It's heavier than my tent setup - but never had a better sleep :).

I was pretty damn happy with my Dutchware Chameleon but after trying a friend's Warbonnet Blackbird XLC I knew I had to get one. The Wooki UQ is super easy to set up and the 0° temp rating is gonna allow me to take my hiking/camping well through the winters. Can't wait to take it out!

I am based in the PNW, run cold, am female, but not small. I have the 10 degree EE Revelation from before they increased the fill. I am generally happy with it, although I will pack a sleeping bag if I’m expecting below freezing temps.

I expect temperatures that occasionally dip to freezing or slightly below, mostly in the PNW. For context, I have a Thermarest NeoAir XLite pad and am fine sleeping in my puffy jacket sometimes. Thoughts on getting a 20 degree vs 10 degree rated EE quilt for this? If I go with the 20 degree, is it crazy to bring a liner for ~5 degree added warmth (and significant comfort) on especially cold hikes? Specifically interested in insights from people who are smaller, female, tend to run cold, or all three. Thanks!

 On top of that there's some really cool stuff up close that I think is worth pointing out. Now you've got a strap here, like you would expect with most quilts, that you can put underneath an inflated sleeping mattress to help secure it in the middle, and that's great, but here's a couple of things that I really really like about it. There's a kind of extra collar area here to help keep you warm around your head and shoulders, which I really like, but come and have a look up close here. You've got hanging hooks here, here, here, in various points here, and actually the little Pertex label for Katabatic here at the end, you can thread a little bit of cord paracord through as well

 The first one is you've got a choice, if I turn it over, you've got a choice of fills and sizes, and I think from memory I've got a regular here. I'm not the biggest of people, I'm about five foot eight, I'm five foot seven, and I think this whole system comes in under 19 ounces, which for an 800 fill sleeping bag rated down to pretty cold temperatures is really good, but here's what I love. The baffles here, which are those stitch bits which keep the fill together, are not cross-baffled, so you could argue, well hang on a second, this fill is going to move around quite a lot and it could leave like bare patches, and you're right, but that's also the advantage of this, because depending on how you're sleeping on your side, on your back, where you feel cold, you can custom squish this fill around to be thicker where you want it and not so thick where you don't want it, and so I actually see this as an advantage for somebody that's quite an astute kind of camper and is no specifically where they get cold. What I've also noticed, if you look here, the baffles down by the foot area are bigger and they're much more filled, so again, what Katabatic have done is they've said, hey, this is the area where people get cold the most, so let's give them a bit more warmth around their legs, around their feet, and also you'll notice from the quilt's point of view, you're completely enclosed in that section as well, also super awesome

 Okay, so here's a super quick look at the Katabatic, it's actually their Palisade quilt, and what I want to do is walk you through just why I really really love this as a product, and there's a couple of little things to look for that really make all the difference for me. I won't go into too much detail about the debate between sleeping bags and quilts, but the long and the short of it is, this is technically upside down as I'm showing it to you now, but this area here is where a sleeping pad is usually, and therefore because it gets squished down it's not providing any thermal insulation from a sleeping bag. So what quilts do is they say, well if you're slipped on a pad you don't need the insulation there because it only gets squished anyway by your body weight. So what you get is a saving in weight, and you also get a saving in weight because there's no zip, and that makes a significant difference overall to the weight of the product

 My one here is a bit sort of wrinkly at the moment because it's been in a stuff sack probably for too long, for maybe a couple of days, a few weeks. Other thing I like about it is I've had the foot box wet many times up against the end of my duplex tent, and it hasn't really got wet.  So, another thing you'll notice about the Catabatic quilt is that it has horizontal baffles. They go this way. A lot of other companies have the vertical ones, which means you can shake the down, down to this end, if your feet are cold, or up towards your chest, if you're cold. What this horizontal baffle system allows you to do is, if you take the sides of your quilt up and you shake them, what that does is that'll put more down on top of you to keep you warmer
