While this particular circuit has been done to death, we here at EarthQuaker Devices brand of special effects pedals think the plumes offers an original take on the old, tired Dead horse everyone loves to beat on. You can’t get enough of it, so we are giving you some more. Doctor’s orders and what not…. for starters, we’ve done away with the Sacred 4558 IC and the classic BJT Transistor buffers and replaced them with JFET operational amplifiers and raised the input impedance to nearly 10 Mega ohms! This offers lower noise, better signal integrity and more chime in the high end. We POWER This opamp by taking the 9V input and internally converting it to +/- 9V to give it more headroom. The end result is a more three-dimensional tone with added clarity that really pushes a nice tube amp over the edge. You might notice how those badass leads you’re always ripping will blast over those awful, no good cymbals your drummer is constantly bashing around on. It sounds like diamonds…a million f**king Diamonds! We’ve also added three different clipping options for your consideration. Mode 1 is symmetrical clipping utilizing a pair of light emitting diodes. This is the crunchiest setting the plumes has to offer. When played through a clean amp, it’ll deliver a reasonable facsimile of that classic black and gold British valve amp tone. If you already set your amp Dirty, using this mode will make it filthy. Mode 2 is clean boost mode. This eliminates the soft clipping diodes altogether and leaves you with straight opamp drive. This is perfect for pushing your clean tone out in front or driving The preamp of an already overdriven amp into tasteful breakup territory. Mode 3 is an asymmetrical silicon diode arrangement similar to the stock Screamer but with more output and clean clarity; The tone some people describe as “transparent”. it’s almost as if your clean tone is blended in with a slightly less clean tone, ya know? Using this mode gives a warmer low-end response and lower output. It’s less hard on your amp and your ears. It’s a classic pleasant tone The whole band can enjoy. Not enough for you? We’ve also improved the way the classic tone control operates while still leaving it familiar enough to keep you warm and comfortable. It’s still a safe space, No worries in here. It’s now useful through the whole range. The low end is big and clear, and the high end is bright and cutting without killing the mids. The Earthquaker Plumes is not your granddad's overdrive. Although it has screamer influences and a similar topology, the Plumes expands on both frequency response and gain by swapping out the sacred components for more interesting variety, and the result is a breath of fresh air in the overdrive world

 I’m super pleased with my purchase. This overdrive just might be the last overdrive you will need, no hype about it, real talk here. It’s that good.

This pedal “Plumes” Is excellent and high-quality, as soon as I received it I plugged it in I own several overdrive pedals, this one is the best out of all except my Mesa flux five which cost 3 times the amount of the Plumes. It spanks my Ibanez TS9 or the Joyo UD. I’m super pleased with my purchase. This overdrive just might be the last overdrive you will need, no hype about it, real talk here

Excellent Overdrive pedal without question.

 This is kind of the heavier mode, or what I like to use is the heavier mode on these plumes, and I've adjusted the gain a little bit. It's up to about more like 1 o'clock, and the level's also a little bit higher, more like 10 o'clock. So what I like about this is even though the gain is much higher in this mode, I'm still maintaining the tonal integrity and the harmonic integrity of what I'm playing, which I really like, but also getting this great analog, overdriven sound that's really natural and feels like it's coming from a tube amp instead of coming from a pedal. So I'll play a little bit for you that way

You You You You Hey folks, I'm Jack faucet and welcome to this demo and review of the wampler tumnus deluxe overdrive This pedal has been out for a while and there have been loads of reviews of it So rather than going over it comprehensively What I wanted to share with you in this review is kind of how I like to use it as a tone sculpting Pedal as opposed to just as a standard overdrive pedal And I was thinking about kind of some different ways to dial it in and in doing so I went to wamplers website and downloaded the manual just to see what what are their thoughts on it and everything and I Actually discovered something that I love which is presets I just I love presets and the names of them the different knobs it whether they're good or not on anything I don't know if any of you remember the old fender supersonics used to come with like a preset card on top and you know would have Texas blues and lo-fi fuzz and one that was called plays itself Which I still don't fully understand is that like a player piano where something just comes out of the amp? I digress There were several cool presets on the manual and I thought that they were a good Representation actually having played around with it of some of the different sounds that this pedal can produce So I'm actually focusing this review on the presets that are in the wampler manual now It's based on the wampler tumnus, which is the smaller one the tumnus deluxe course has your basic level and gain You've got a normal and hot switch. You have a three band EQ and you have a buffer switch and Everything has great functionality Again, I think that what this pedal does exceptionally Well is kind of like you've heard the term probably foundation overdrive and I think this works really well as a foundation overdrive It's kind of like an always-on pedal. It's something that sculpts your tone that you base everything else off of now That's not to say that it can't work is just a great overdrive or even distortion on its own as well Like you just heard in the second tone high gain and juicy Which is I hope that the person who came up with the name high gain and juicy got a raise because that sells pedals Anyway, if you'll notice it has quite a dynamic range on the gain And I tend to like it with a little bit lower gain and not even necessarily going into something that's already Driving so like you heard in the intros playing this guitar the gibson es 335. I was playing into the Franklin amps 5e3 Playing clean initially and when you kick this on with the gain kind of back here on what was called the classic K tone It really didn't add almost any drive There was a bit of drive if I kind of dug in a little but this is on a humbucking guitar And the amp was not at the point of breakup, but it also wasn't just quiet either It was you know, it's a it's a 15 watt amp and it was up reasonably loud So that kind of tells you again the dynamic range of this pedal and its tone sculpting ability Now then afterwards the reason that I added in the wampler pantheon not only because I think these two pedals sound good together but to show you that even with a little bit of grit added that it's going into it still retains a Sweetness and doesn't just sound like saturated city

It still kind of has some nice character Now the three band EQ really is very very sculpting I found and I have found that you know The buffer actually makes a big difference also depending on how you're using the how you are using the EQ For instance, I found that the mids kind of didn't like being all the way up But you had more range on the mids at least in my setup with the buffer turned on the hot and normal switch again Big big difference. I particularly like it on normal, but I also tend to like Smoother sounding drive and on hot it definitely gets more gain

 They can be surprisingly finicky this pedal just works with those types of amps and works particularly well with single coils and I like that this pedal really works with Kind of bringing out the best of a guitar and an amplifier It does have its own sound to a certain degree but I think it also really emphasizes and kind of enhances your guitar and your amps tone and Works with them very very well. Of course the whole point to this type of pedal is that it's Transparent which I always thought was kind of silly because I think that K style pedals do have their own tone in a way But I think that it does work really really well last thing that I love about this is I'm a huge huge nerd and I love Narnia and so I love that in kind of a sea of Clones that are out there clones with a K. I love that they went with Tumnus, which has you know, not only the literary reference but almost in a slightly tongue-of-cheek way because of course you know all the other pedals out there seem to be some kind of slightly over-the-top mythical warrior and Mr. Tumnus in Narnia is just kind of is charming and peaceful and Slightly silly in a way, you know, of course he gets scared of Lucy and everything And I think it's really cool that they went with the Tumnus idea I think that's sort of a way that was done very very well in a nice contrast to other pedals that are out there Despite my mythical warrior comment

Wampler Tumnus Deluxe

 I could easily leave it on all the time just for this tone. Turn up the gain and you gradually get into that Klon-type tasteful overdrive realm. Nice. This is a very classy piece of US engineering, and I recommend it

I previously tried one of the cheaper mini-sized Chinese-made Klon-type pedals from another manufacturer. It worked OK but this pedal is better, even if it does cost more. The normal pedal size form factor makes it more usable than a mini pedal - it stays put, the knobs are not crammed together, the markings on the knobs are clearer.  In use it has a better clean boost tone, easily adjustable with the bass, mid and treble controls, another advantage

 Really is a must have, always on pedal. Sounds great with all of my guitars and even my basses (3 band eq gives you great versatility). If you are looking for a battery powered pedal, however, beware. Wampler tells me it multiplies the 9v to 36v, so it will burn through a battery in 20-40 minutes, and I went through 3 batteries in my first session

 I usually have it at 2 o'clock, and the hot switch engaged, and then I just dial in the level. This is where I think it sounds absolutely killer. Let's try it out with the Strat. I see that camera right over there is dying, so I'll switch over to the Strat and switch that battery

Wampler Tumnus Deluxe Overdrive - ResQ Gear Review

 Do not expect some magical tone either to come out and blow you away. But this is a more versatile option than a Tube Screamer at 2x the price.

This is a good sounding pedal, goes from boost to overdriven distortion and a lot of options in between. It will color your sound and has a strong nasally mid bump so do not expect to use this as a clean boost. Do not expect some magical tone either to come out and blow you away.
