The next gen X-Mid 1P is also a lot more spacious than the Hornet 1, and more stormworthy with a full coverage fly (extends to the ground) rather than a high cut one, so basically with the X-Mid you get a shelter that is more spacious, durable, featured, and stormworthy for about the same weight because it uses trekking poles.

Really like the stable low profile with the wide base and the can to the side instead of under the burner. If you’ve ever, after a long hard calorie burning day, tipped over your almost ready dinner because of a high profile profile stove that mounts on top the canister, you’ll appreciate this feature. Also I like the wider burner that helps you avoid burning food to the bottom of the pot. First the good. This is light and small. OK - it is a few ounces more than the claimed 1.7 lbs but very close

The Vega stove is lighter and packs up smaller. Having the feet built onto the canister attachment is also very convenient (MSR has a separate plastic attachment that can be lost). I also like having a slightly longer fuel line and the more aggressive pot arms on the Vega. I will say

Nubs at the ends of the supports to prevent your pot from sliding. Convenient, fold-out legs for the flipped canister position. (The MSR uses an awkward-to-pack plastic thing). And the Optimus looks cooler

Obviously a Hilleberg tent would perform better in a storm, but for its intended use, the X-mid is the best designed tent on the market. Condensation is a non-issue with the tent because of the steep angled walls. Moisture that builds up will just run down the wall and drip off the edges.

All types have various advantages and disadvantages, and no system is perfect for every backpacking situation, however, if this is the style of stove you are looking for, you would be hard-pressed to do better than the Vega.

If the gas line is bent in a specific direction, it almost tips over when removing the pan. Just be aware and make sure it is on the most flat surface you can find in the outdoors and you will be fine.
