So basically, the GG One offers very low weight but also gives up a lot of durability/space/function to achieve that, then the X-Mid is heavier at 28oz, but a lot more of a well rounded/all conditions shelter, whereas the Hornet 1 is about the weight of the X-Mid but with protection/durability more similar to the One because it puts a lot of weight into the pole structure. Personally I don't think the Hornet really makes sense if you're a trekking pole user, since the pole is a lot of weight for not much gain in simplicity (you still need a lot of stakes). I'd go with the One if you want the lighter shelter for friendlier conditions or the X-Mid if you want a light but more well rounded ultralight shelter, but the Hornet could make sense if you don't use hiking poles.

 If you're willing to use a trekking pole tent, the X-Mid can offer a lot more space/durability/performance for the weight because it doesn't put weight into tent poles. More specifically, it offers more durable fabrics (20D vs 10-15D), more waterproof coatings (>2500m vs 1200mm), dual doors (vs 1), dual vestibules (vs 1), and dual vents (vs none). The next gen X-Mid 1P is also a lot more spacious than the Hornet 1, and more stormworthy with a full coverage fly (extends to the ground) rather than a high cut one, so basically with the X-Mid you get a shelter that is more spacious, durable, featured, and stormworthy for about the same weight because it uses trekking poles.

 Then take a second and just make sure that it looks good. What do you have that you can go ahead and insert the first pole? You can insert it either through the vent or through the door and there's a grommet at the peak that you can insert the tip into insert that pole and get it nice and taut. You can give it a good extension once you've done, that there should be a line of tension going to each of the four corners. So this is great because it's a setup that, even if it was really windy, it wouldn't be a problem to fish this tent

 So you've got 210 denier, nylon, super tough and then you've got a grommet here, sewn in through two layers of webbing. So it's super beefy, rounded edges, it's not going to cut through, and it's all reinforced with this 210 denier nylon and then below that you've got a buckle here and that connects to the inner with this grosgrain. So you can adjust that to make sure your enters at the ideal tension you [, Music, ], 

 Angled ends and it's on a diagonal, that's the fire into the tent. So you get these great vestibules! You put a ton of stuff there, they're, nice and tall. You could toss a pack in the corner. You could have you cook here

 So you should see at this point that you've got attention on this one and this one, and if you get that that means your rectangles pretty good, I like to add one more little snake at the main door that I'm going to be using to hold that Small side of the door in place at that last pull and you're, basically ready. If you wish you can deploy the peak guylines, [ Music ] the extra packs up into this nice short package, because it doesn't have any struts. So it's designed packed short enough. That will store horizontally in any pack

 My test setup was on a mildly windy day. The tent was solid but made a fair amount of flapping noise. I might need to practice getting a better pitch. But this was minor

 First the good. This is light and small. OK - it is a few ounces more than the claimed 1.7 lbs but very close

Hello, everyone: this is a review of the drop X, mid 1p, designed by Dan Durst on a dual door: dual vestibule, trekking poles supported single person, shelter that weighs twenty seven point: nine ounces. This is not a sponsored review. I bought this during a recent drop sale when I was having a crippling identity crisis about whether I was always going to take my hammock one solo, hiking and liked it enough to do a full review. It comes with eight titanium, Sheppard hook, stakes which are nice and light, but which I augment with some sturdier stakes for out in the field

 I am able to compensate with these huge vestibules to give you an idea of how I fit into this I'm about 6 foot, even so, laying back and centering myself pretty good on this I fit pretty well I'd say this tent is probably good for people about 6 and under any more than that, you're really going to be pushing it for me at about 6, even it's about perfect and that's good. I don't really want to like carry a shelter larger than what I need. So, for me it strikes a really good sweet spot and if you are a taller person - and you don't mind having your head kind of up in the mesh like this you're not going to have a problem because there's about five inches of good space in between This Internet tent this outer so you're, not gon na, have an issue with hitting condensation the inner can fit wide pads. Although the best thing I can show for context is a Nemo switchback which is 20 inches to show how I fit on the pad I've stacked

 I also liked the unique design that offsets diagonal on the inside is just great those two huge vestibules for someone like me that likes to spread out gear. It'S wonderful! It'S not the lightest tent on the market, but though extra ounces, you're getting a ton of functionality and comfort and overall usability that no other tent can really offer you at the same price in weight, and that's really the overall impression that I get with the x-men. It'S not going to have the best specs in every department, but when you add everything up, it really cleans the field people. I wouldn't recommend this tent for our people over six feet

X-Mid 1p Ultralight Tent Review

I'm considering hiking the AT in the spring and would like to avoid having a perpetually damp quilt, at least as much as possible. Appreciate the feedback!

 Obviously a Hilleberg tent would perform better in a storm, but for its intended use, the X-mid is the best designed tent on the market. Condensation is a non-issue with the tent because of the steep angled walls. Moisture that builds up will just run down the wall and drip off the edges. 

anyone with some experience with single wall tents in a Scandinavian climate? I'd love to hear some experience before i waste all my money on a duplex  


i'll be camping next to lakes/rivers, on grass without trees so i fear condensation will be a huge issue, but is it a complete deal breaker? Do i have to go for a heavier dual wall tent like a hilleberg?

r/Ultralight - The Purchase Advice Thread - Week of January 31, 2022

 It'S made out of still polyester, which means it's less saggy when it gets wet. It'S got high quality zippers. It'S got extra guidelines for when it gets windy, really nice overhead pockets. It'S got good stitching, everything is seam proof

 No issues, it was even a little bit saggy and i still had no issues whatsoever. The only thing that happened was that one of the poles um kind of collapsed, but then you just put it back in place like you know, it's really easy put it back in place and um, and that's all that um happens, but to overcome that you also Can attach the guy lines um to the tent and that's what i didn't do so i'm very confident that this tent will hold up very well in any kind of storm all right. So let's go over the pros of this tent. So i think, first of all, i think it's great value for money, so i paid, i think it was around about 280 um, australian dollars or 200 us dollars on the website

 You can get for this kind of money um. Otherwise, you will have to um other tents. You would spend like seven eight hundred dollars. Also

 I think they're really handy just to hang a flashlight uh from the from the top and all that stuff. So at night time it's really cold. You can make it really cozy, like i mentioned before, the grommets are really high quality. They seem really robust as well

Dan Durston X-Mid 1P Long Term Review

- company is at least based in America, Canada or another western country. I don't want to reward the Chinese companies that steal the designs of others.

Looking to replace my Nemo Dagger with a lighter tent. I'm down to 3 options from my own research which are the Tarp Tent Notch, the Tarp Tent Stratospire 1 and the Durston X-mid 1. I do carry and use trekking poles, so no need for collapsible poles. If anyone has insights regarding these or other suggestions that fit the following criteria, I'd love to hear about them!

r/Ultralight - The Purchase Advice Thread - Week of August 09, 2021

The skies completely cleared up at around 1600, so after I set up my tent I threw my jacket and some water into my pack and [headed back up to Mount Liberty]([URL REMOVED] (1.4 miles out-and-back from the campsite) for some incredible [360 degree views of the White Mountains and the entire Pemigewasset Wilderness]([URL REMOVED] Enjoyed dinner back at camp while chatting with some lovely AT hiker trash and passed out around 2030.

I descended from Flume into [the notch that leads to Mount Liberty]([URL REMOVED] (elev. 4,439 feet) and picked up my pace considerably as I was soaking wet and wanting to snag a tent site before the campsite got too full. I hit Mount Liberty shortly after and it was completely socked in. So I gave the survey marker at the summit a good slap to say “I did it!” and kept on moving

 At 0930 it was already 80 F and the air was THICK thanks to the high humidity. Only 2 miles into my hike I was soaked in sweat but still setting a quick pace and [enjoying the leisurely elevation gain]([URL REMOVED] before shit got real.

I set out in the direction of Mount Flume and made quick work of the notch yet again. The weather was only getting better so I spent some more time hanging out on Mount Flume, taking more pictures, and enjoying the sunshine. I found a nice little spot away from the wind, made some hot instant coffee, [and enjoyed second breakfast]([URL REMOVED] on the summit of Mount Flume.
