 Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

 You can find them at Urban Outfitters you know journeys ASOS Nordstrom's but this particular style is sold out online in every store except like the size 12 I Literally called every Doc Martens store in LA and they were sold out everywhere and randomly by chance. I was able to find these in New York and they had these in my size I Would say just call and check the Doc Martens stores around you. If you don't have a Doc Martens store around you, then just keep checking the site because I have a feeling they're gonna be restocking really soon. The sales manager actually told me they were going to do a restock in January but I'm not really sure when in January So you want to keep your eye on the website When it comes to size, these actually run true to size with Doc Martens I Typically would say get a size bigger to make sure they're comfortable, but with these I would say get the real size because if you get a size too big, your heel is gonna slip from the back here when you're walking and it's gonna feel really annoying and it's just gonna look big

 so I found that a size six fits me perfect. Can go to the store and try them on of course. wear a mask, stay safe but it's gonna be really helpful for you to try them on and just walk around the store for a bit. get a feel for them and make sure that they're not hurting you and your heel is not coming out of the bottom

 It took me three purchases of the new non-UK made shoes before I finally gave up on them. Really a shame; I love the style.

 That was like the only one that was there and I was just taking a risk and I took that risk. And she was right because when I walk in these I can feel my heel lifting out of the shoe. So she was right because she did say in the comments she was telling people to size down because when she walks her heel lifts up and she wasn't lying. It happens

 So the seven. This is the two of them in comparison. This is a size five of the Nike Air Forces. and then these are the 8,053 dog brands

 But yeah, realistically I feel like if I wore some thick socks I could probably get away with it. But if I'm just trying to wear some like tight leg warmers, I definitely can't pass because like I can literally feel my heel just lifting and lifting each time that I walk. which is kind of annoying. So I wouldn't say they're true to size

I was at least expecting a "sorry it isn't up to our standards" response, or maybe even a coupon for another pair I might want to purchase

I loved these shoes. They fit well, were comfortable, and the leather uppers looked great. After a year, they began to tear away from the sole in a way they could not be re-glued, according to a respected shoe shop where I live. For the price point of these shoes, I guess that is OK, so I gave 3 stars

Really Doc Marten's Reputation?  Quality???

 Cheaply made and already falling apart after less than a year of wear. My old pair of Docs lasted me 7 years and were less worn out then this pair is after 10 months. Avoid at all cost!

First, J. Crew lists these as wing tips. They're not. They're longwings. Anyways, these went on deep sale recently, so I decided to take a punt on them. I figured they'd be relatively low quality, but probably worth the $80 or so bucks. At the very least, I figured they'd be decent beaters to wear to work in shitty weather and I wouldn't care about messing them up. As long as they were comfortable and looked decent, I was game. 

**Sizing:**

Sizing was my biggest worry. They recommended a half size down from regular shoe size, but that very rarely means a half size down from brannock. I'm a 10.5 brannock and wear 10s in GS Leo Last (though, the ones pictured at 10.5s), 10s in Alden's Barrie, and 9.5 in most Vibergs. I played it safe and went with the 10.5 here. They fit quite well. A 10 likely wouldn't been doable, but pretty tight even with thin socks. These are probably a *bit* loose as the heel slips (tough blisters incoming), but I think as my foot settles into the bed, they'll be great.   


I've included my best amateur effort at a last comparison in the album. These are notably more narrow than GS and Alden. 

**Quality Impressions:**

The construction is actually quite good. The welt joints are clean and I don't see any notable stitching defects or anything like that. I was actually impressed by the triple stitching throughout the longwing patterns. The leather soles are slick for now, but they'll scrape up and work fine. The welting is nice and even with not issues that I can see either (maybe you all can). 

The biggest downside--one I expected--is the leather. It's certainly below Grant Stone quality. Probably more on par with Johnston &amp; Murphy. It's advertised as "italian leather upper," and sure, that may be, but it's a bit plasticy. I'm hopeful it'll wear in over time, but I'm not crossing my fingers. Despite this textural annoyance (and not really one for $80), the coloring is nice. There's some depth there, but not splotching or other defects that I can see. 

**Conclusions:**

Honestly, these aren't bad for $80. I'd pull the trigger on GS seconds before snagging these again, but for what they are, I like them just fine. Probably not something I'd actually resole unless the leather ends up aging really well. I'll probably get a toppy put on and wear them until they're simply unwearable. Hopefully that takes quite a few years...
