 They have a lot of different options and so yeah, here's a close up of the shoe, they are so beautiful so they just come in your typical Doc Martens box like this and I got these for, let's see, these are the 1461 Beck's 3 eyelets and these were $140. So To talk a little bit about the actual shoe and kind of what it looks like, like I mentioned before, this is the shorter ankle type style and like the name suggests, it has the 3 eyelets for the laces and then it has the classic rubber sole that you see in all of your Doc Martens shoes with the iconic yellow trimming and this sole is about I Want to say an inch and an inch and a half? So that's one thing about the different styles of their Oxford type shoes is they all kind of,. they have a lot of similar styles that look like this but with different platform heights. so this one I would say is like the middle tier of all the styles that I looked at

 so here we go. Alright So these are the bad boys I'll be talking about today and I'll be talking all about the price, the comfort, the fit, where I bought them and then I'll also be comparing them to the Doc Martens Jadam boots so stay tuned for all of that. And I'll leave all the timestamps and links and stuff below in the description. Okay So like I mentioned, these are the 1461 Beck's Doc Martens shoes, they're sort of like an Oxford type, so these are sort of like your Oxford type of shoes and I have been eyeing these for a long time and Doc Martens actually has a few styles in this kind of look with the short ankle and the lace up look

5 inches maybe and this one's a lot shorter. So let me show you like this so you can see the Jayden ones are a little bit thicker and that's kind of the style that I initially wanted. So I tried those on but unfortunately they didn't fit my foot too well because I kind of have small narrow feet so those didn't fit that well in my usual size. So I Also don't really like the smaller platform size because I do like a little bit of height

I dug the style of these and subtle extra height they give me. Oddly unfomfortable, even after two dozen times wearing them. The toe box seems a little narrow and the mid section actually seems somewhat loose (relative to other Docs I own), so not that great for a long day on your feet. I also tried the Doc Martens insole inserts but they made the front of the shoe much too tight and the extra thickness at the rear makes my heel slip out of the shoe a little

 I'm super super excited about these. I mean honestly like I've kind of been stocking them ever since we took a trip to Europe two years ago and I saw them in Amsterdam a lot.  Hey, what's up everybody? It's Clayton here at Zappos.com, and today we're checking out the 1461 Bex from Doc Martens. This edgy Oxford features that smooth leather upper. It's got that firm finished leather with that smooth semi-bright appearance

 Not only durable, but it's got that cool pop of style. On the inside we've got a soft and breathable textile lining combined with that lightly cushioned textile footbed. And the amazing air-cushioned outsole. It's going to be slip resistant, going to stay nice and comfy, and look good

 Really got a crisp look. Got the classic Doc's DNA, like that thick grooved sole with the pronounced lug and that yellow Z-Welt construction. Not only durable, but it's got that cool pop of style. On the inside we've got a soft and breathable textile lining combined with that lightly cushioned textile footbed

 These Doc Martens do feel really, really stiff on my feet. There is no flexibility when it comes to the toe here, like none. So it's definitely important to wear socks with these because the leather around the ankle is definitely going to dig into your skin. I can show you just how stiff this leather is

 And the best part is this is only $130. And I understand $130 is not necessarily cheap. It's still expensive, but compared to the $950 Prada shoes, these are a lot cheaper. I'm getting the essence of the Prada shoes, but at a much better price

 There are other brands that make this similar style with the low ankle, the lace. But the reason why I decided to go with these Doc Martens versus another brand is because I think Doc Martens is a very reputable brand. Like I've owned these Doc Martens for 10 years. It's a classic and I know it's such great quality

DR. MARTENS 1461 Review (WATCH THIS Before You BUY DOCS)

I'm returning these. There were cracks in the bottom of the soles. I'm not sure how well it showed up in the pictures, but it is unacceptable to me at any price, and really disgusting considering the level of quality this brand used to represent. I don't necessarily blame the seller or Amazon as much as the manufacturer, but in my opinion, these should not be sold to customers in this condition, whoever is ultimately responsible

They don't make them like the used to.

First, J. Crew lists these as wing tips. They're not. They're longwings. Anyways, these went on deep sale recently, so I decided to take a punt on them. I figured they'd be relatively low quality, but probably worth the $80 or so bucks. At the very least, I figured they'd be decent beaters to wear to work in shitty weather and I wouldn't care about messing them up. As long as they were comfortable and looked decent, I was game. 

**Sizing:**

Sizing was my biggest worry. They recommended a half size down from regular shoe size, but that very rarely means a half size down from brannock. I'm a 10.5 brannock and wear 10s in GS Leo Last (though, the ones pictured at 10.5s), 10s in Alden's Barrie, and 9.5 in most Vibergs. I played it safe and went with the 10.5 here. They fit quite well. A 10 likely wouldn't been doable, but pretty tight even with thin socks. These are probably a *bit* loose as the heel slips (tough blisters incoming), but I think as my foot settles into the bed, they'll be great.   


I've included my best amateur effort at a last comparison in the album. These are notably more narrow than GS and Alden. 

**Quality Impressions:**

The construction is actually quite good. The welt joints are clean and I don't see any notable stitching defects or anything like that. I was actually impressed by the triple stitching throughout the longwing patterns. The leather soles are slick for now, but they'll scrape up and work fine. The welting is nice and even with not issues that I can see either (maybe you all can). 

The biggest downside--one I expected--is the leather. It's certainly below Grant Stone quality. Probably more on par with Johnston &amp; Murphy. It's advertised as "italian leather upper," and sure, that may be, but it's a bit plasticy. I'm hopeful it'll wear in over time, but I'm not crossing my fingers. Despite this textural annoyance (and not really one for $80), the coloring is nice. There's some depth there, but not splotching or other defects that I can see. 

**Conclusions:**

Honestly, these aren't bad for $80. I'd pull the trigger on GS seconds before snagging these again, but for what they are, I like them just fine. Probably not something I'd actually resole unless the leather ends up aging really well. I'll probably get a toppy put on and wear them until they're simply unwearable. Hopefully that takes quite a few years...
