  There are some downsides to this grinder depending on the intended coffee method. For drip or French Press, works great. If grinding for Espresso or Turkish style coffee, I would not recommend. The grinder is on the loud side, so if you don't want to wake up your house mates in the morning you may want to skip this grinder

disappointed with Cusinart - is it on the decline?

 Go ahead, left your DBM-8 to your ear, turn it a little bit, don't you hear those plastic bits falling around inside of it?  I bought one of these, but, because they are such poorly made devices, I am now on my third (technically, though I never actually laid hands on the second).  The first one broke after a few grinds. It ground, then ground to a halt, never again to grind. Hot tip! Get your replacement through Amazon, who will do it for free, and not Cuisinart, who will charge you $10

For $800, I would look at something like a manual hand grinder ($160-$250) and a bambino plus with a non-pressurized basket ($400) or just go for something like the barista express all in one machine, which isn’t the best but from what I understand you basically have to dial it in by adjusting your dose as the grinder steps are not convenient enough.

 You owe yourself a good cup of coffee and a bad grinder is too much of an inconvenience to live with.

 I see a thousand ways the product designers could have more easily solved this problem, but I guess they didn’t ask me.  I “single-dose” my coffee brews, meaning I weigh my beans with a scale, just enough to brew one cup - 22g beans for 350ml water if it’s just me - then dump them in the hopper and grind only that amount per grind. The 22g of beans barely coats the bottom of the hopper; it probably has capacity to hold 300g or more at a time.  If your brewing method is not sensitive to precision, you can ignore this paragraph

 Moving on: This grinder has a grind timer, but not a scale. I encourage you to use a kitchen scale alongside this grinder for measuring your beans per each grind. Leaving the hopper always full of beans means relying on this grinder’s timer to measure the quantity of coffee you’re grinding. Think about it: “time duration of beans ground” is more variable than “grams of beans ground,” so if you rely on time rather than weight you will end up grinding too much or too little for how much coffee you plan to make
