 The handle makes it better for stovetop than a Dutch oven. It takes a while to adjust if you’re coming from aluminum or steel pans. I’m using a gas range. After letting it even out “medium” is way too high for most things in this pan

These pans are very heavy. Heat distribution is great because of cast iron. I have had them for six months. Food sticks and the paint is starting to come off by the handle and it is starting to rust

The bacon stuck really bad to the pan, I had to scrape it off the bottom and those spots where it stuck were terribly sticky. After the bacon I fried a couple burgers in the pan, they got that nice crusty outside like you only get from a skillet like this or from a really nice restaurant grill

Thanks everybody! I've looked at Lodge before, I'll probably end up going with Lodge instead, it's a brand I know a lot of people trust! I've actually been debating getting a cast iron flat top too for my glasstop stove. :)

My wife works at a store that just got these in for Christmas, I only have 1 pan and would like to get a few more, would this set be any good? I think they're $24.99 for the set. Is preseasoned good or does it suck? Lol

 Once it came to temperature, we turned it off and just let the pan sit in there until it cooled. The goal is to "burn off" the oil, so bring it past the smoking point until it gets dry and hard on the pan. That's what makes it coat well. We did this 3 or 4 times, but the more you use it the better nonstick surface you'll have

We use this pan for everything except eggs. We've had this one for quite a while now so I feel like i can give a longer term review. The biggest thing I don't like about this pan is that it didn't feel like it came sufficiently pre- seasoned, so we looked up some videos and instructions and did it. Now it feels like the more we use the pan the better it gets

Cast iron is supposed to be cheap, durable, and reliable; and that is exactly what Lodge is. Start with their 12” skillet and work more into your collection from there.

As the title states, I have about 250 I can spend on a good cast iron skillet.  I was going to buy a Le Creuset skillet because I have heard good things about that brand.  I just figured I would ask here first and see if that’s a good choice or if I should be looking at a different brand.

I’m just got some money for my birthday and want to buy a cast iron skillet.

 As for continued maintenance, instead of washing it last like I used to do with other pans, I wash it first. I towel dry it, then set it back on a low-medium burner to heat/dry completely for about 10 mins while doing the other dishes. Thorough drying is critical to prevent rusting. Then a little canola oil on a paper towel, give it a real light coat inside, leave it on the burner another 15 mins while I finish the rest of the kitchen clean up

I've also made meals that start on the stove and finish in the oven, which is one of the great benefits of cast iron.  Cast iron cooks differently than Teflon, so take a little time to learn the techniques (lower heat is needed with cast iron, I over cooked a few things in the beginning). Don't be discouraged the first time or two if your food sticks just a little, the non-stick surface takes a few meals to really develop nicely, but it will. So cook a batch of bacon, maybe some burgers, and wait a few times before doing delicate things like eggs. I couldn't be happier with the Lodge product in general, Kudos to Walmart for a GREAT price and nice quality for that price

 Therefore, many hours of prepping were involved before I fried the first egg - that stuck. I knew I would need to season more aggressively due to the roughness of the cast iron. Do not expect a smooth, mirrored finish as comes on high end cast iron. This is more rustic

 After heating it to smoking on my stove, I applied olive oil sparingly then rubbed it in using a paper towel. I did this at least 20 times and the paper towel would shred due to the coarseness of the pan.
