Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II vs Panasonic Lumix G9

This is the cameras highlight! The camera produces images quickly and without any sort of lag, no matter how hard you push it. Use a high-end SD card as well to marry that processor to the speed of a quality SD card. The optical zoom is a 5X. Fair enough

I had high hopes for the G9 being a long time MFT system user. Unfortunately, the four-thirds sensor still hampers the beautifully built G9 with excellent handling and controls. The image quality is simply inferior to the similarly priced Nikon D7500 that I replaced the G9 with. The metering system is also not as accurate as the Nikon 3D matrix metering

It's certainly good enough to create some great images, but aside from it's extra zoom range and great IS, it is not up to the standard of either my old beat up Panasonic 12-35mm F2.8 or a borrowed Olympus 12-40mm f2.8. Both of those lenses are sharper through the range, especially in the corners were the 12-60mm falls flat

I personally would not recommend the EOS M50 as it is worse in low light than the Panasonic, it loses the advantage of having good AF if you record in 4K, it has no IBIS and it isn't weather-sealed and there aren't a lot of native lenses for the system. Personally, I think Panasonic offers more for less, but if you need good AF for sure, then get one of the Sony cameras.

Depending on your choice of settings and usage patterns, it also has short battery life.

The video toolkit here is pretty basic. The G5 X can record at 4K at 30fps—a firmware update is coming to add 24fps by the end of the year. It also supports 1080p at up to 120fps, so slow-motion playback is an option.

I own a Lumix G9 (micro four thirds) and a Canon Eos R (full frame). The G9 is my favorite camera EVER. Every feature you can think of, quick auto focus, excellent video features, and great ergonomics.
