Because I'm trying to get as small a kit as possible, I've been using EF-M lenses most of the time. The zooms are good enough quality for most purposes in my opinion. Obviously there are some quality sacrifices to be made in getting these lenses to be so small and compact. But for travel / hobbyists, they're fine

Honestly if you want decent quality video only. Just get a camcorder, u wont have to worry about glass or anything. Especially if you are in a 3rd world country as u said a camcorder would be cheaper and the up less space then a dslr or mirrorless with all its accessories.

The digital zoom goes out to 20x, and I was really surprised by how good the image quality is - it produces very usable images at that range. Prior to this I always looked at digital zoom as useless unless you are photographing aliens getting out of a flying saucer and have to stay out of range of their ray guns. Of course it is not perfect. I wish it focused a little faster in still photo modes, but it's fine in most situations

Instead, I'd recommend the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 or Canon version and cover distance with the 55-250mm or 70-300 (which is full frame btw).
