The Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is one of the best budget DSLRs you can get and is one of the most portable ones. Designed to be small and light relative to other DSLRs, it's super easy to take on the go. Its simple control layout is accessible to newcomers, and it has a fully articulated touchscreen to help you shoot at different angles. It also uses the same APS-C sensor found in the Canon EOS Rebel T8i, so image and video quality is comparable. You just get a much more rudimentary autofocus system.

If you're completely new to photography, consider the Nikon D3500. Nikon's ultimate beginner camera is even more stripped down than the SL3, with no articulated screen and no 4k video capability. However, it has a unique 'Guide' shooting mode that teaches you the ropes as you shoot. If you've never used a dedicated camera before, it's an excellent starter, but if you want a budget model with even more features, the SL3 is the way to go.

While DSLRs aren't exactly known for their portability, especially with mirrorless cameras on the block, you can still get some pretty portable DSLRs with plenty of features. The Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is part of Canon's entry-level SL series, which is designed to be as compact as possible. While it's about the same size as the Nikon D3500 mentioned above, the Rebel SL3 gives you more features but doesn't have a dedicated 'Guide' mode.

It does have a fully articulated screen, a fairly intuitive control scheme and menu, and can even record 4k video. And while its AF system isn't the most advanced, it still does an okay job tracking moving subjects. It also uses the same sensor as the Canon EOS Rebel T8i, so you'll get great image quality. Ultimately, it's a great choice if you want something portable with a little more oomph than the D3500. The D3500 is still the beginner king for those who want a camera that also acts as a hands-on learning tool.

The best DSLR camera that we've tested for those on a budget is the Canon EOS Rebel SL3. This entry-level DSLR is smaller and lighter than other crop-sensor DSLRs in Canon's lineup, making it easier to carry around for extended shooting sessions. Despite its relatively compact size, its controls are well-spaced out, and you should find it comfortable to use even if you have large hands. Its fully-articulated touchscreen is also a rarity for a DSLR at this price point, making it a little easier to compose shots taken from unconventional angles.

This camera's 24.1 MP sensor helps it deliver decent JPEG and RAW image quality out-of-the-box, with an impressively broad dynamic range at base ISO. You might notice more noise and a loss in sharpness as you increase ISO in darker environments. Its autofocus system does a good job tracking moving objects in still photography and offers exceptional performance when shooting FHD video. There's also a wide assortment of inputs and outputs for various accessories, including headphone and microphone jacks, a micro-USB port, and an HDMI port, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for pairing the camera with your smartphone.

Unfortunately, while this camera's 4k recording capability is also somewhat unique for a camera of this type, it isn't especially well-suited to recording in this resolution. It can only shoot 4k video at 24 fps with a severe 1.54x crop, and its autofocus system can struggle to track moving subjects. Its slow sensor readout speed also contributes to a significant amount of rolling shutter effect when panning side to side, distorting your subjects. Still, if you're looking for a compact, easy-to-use DSLR that's well-suited for on-the-go photography, it's a good option.

If you want to record videos, the best DSLR camera for beginners is the Canon EOS Rebel SL3. This crop-sensor DSLR delivers decent FHD video quality out-of-the-box, particularly in well-lit environments. Its autofocus system does an exceptionally good job of tracking moving subjects in FHD, even as they move in and out of frame.

This camera has an exceptionally intuitive menu system that you can easily navigate with either its physical controls or by tapping on its sharp, bright, fully-articulated touchscreen. There's even a guide mode to explain some core features. The camera itself is comfortable to use for extended periods thanks to its large handgrip and relatively lightweight, compact construction. It also has a wide variety of ports and inputs, with a dedicated microphone and headphone jacks and a clean HDMI feature for using an external recorder without any overlays getting in the way.

Unfortunately, this camera's video recording capabilities are notably inferior when shooting in 4k. It can only record this resolution at 24 fps with a severe 1.54x reduction in the field of view. Autofocus and video stabilization performance are poor compared to when the camera is recording in FHD. Still, the camera's relatively compact size, fully articulated touchscreen, and decent video quality in FHD help make it one of the best DSLR cameras that we've tested.

For the type of video you're doing, I prefer the Canon. The autofocus is smoother and you can scrub footage to review it, which is really important. The Sony has weird old VCR-style controls to review footage and it means sometimes I don't catch problems I need to know about soon enough to refilm.

These are my two options.. Say A or B...

Going to buy my first camera tomorrow.

 I couldn't have gotten as far as I have without watching MANY Youtube reviews and hints/tricks videos that make it much easier to understand how to use the MANY features of this camera. The battery life is long and I have shot all day and never run out of battery. I don't like that 4K video is so cropped but I just stand farther back and it is OK. Also, the audio levels will show on the lcd screen but you have to go into the settings and take it off of Auto and put it in Manual to get it to work, it should be on by default Canon! The 9-point AF works great for moving objects (like planes) and I don't know why people complain that it is not enough

 Love the fact that I can use legacy Canon lenses or the newest, as my budget allows. I got the 18-55 STM kit lens and it is a fine starter lens, especially for video (wide angle since the camera crops, especially with 4K video), it's silent, fast and relatively accurate. I also got a "nifty fifty" prime Canon 50mm lens that is Super for portraits and just to walk around with taking photos. I also got a Canon EF-S 55-250mm STM lens for excellent shots of RC planes in the air far away

 Also no 24fps in Full HD mode. Still a great value for the money. Pic quality is super. Love viewfinder for photos but won’t work for videos

Great entry-level compact DSLR

 One of the first lenses you should consider after the kit zoom is the EF 50mm f1.8 STM ideal for portraits and exploring shallow depth of field effects with blurred backgrounds. It costs around £130 or dollars much cheaper than equivalent native lenses for mirrorless systems so if you're on a budget it's definitely worth thinking about. If you're into vlogging or ultra-wide photography the EF-S 10-18mm is also cheaper than Canon's mirrorless equivalent

Meanwhile the APS-C sensor reduces the field of view of all lenses by 1.6 times so the 18-55mm kit zoom becomes equivalent to 29-88mm while the 50mm primer I mentioned a minute ago becomes 80mm which is perfect for portraits

 Hi I'm Gordon from Camera Labs and this is my review of the Canon EOS 250D or Rebel SL3 as it's known in North America. The 250D as I'll refer to it in this review is a compact DSLR aimed at photographers or vloggers buying their first interchangeable lens camera but we want to start with a step up from entry-level models. The kit costs 599 pounds or 649 US dollars and that gets you a small but well-featured DSLR with a 24 megapixel APS-C sensor, the choice of using an optical viewfinder or a fully articulated touch screen, 1080p movies with great autofocus, 4k video with less good focus, wi-fi with bluetooth, a microphone input and the EFS 18 to 55 millimeter f4 to 5.6 STM zoom and that's the lens that I've used for most of my tests in this video

 I think it looks pretty I think looks perfectly fine again. Like I started the video off with Canon makes pretty good cameras that are very easy to use and very easy to get a decent image quality out of and I can see something cool that I'm seeing on the monitor right now is that it does get my eye. It does have eye autofocus and video and it's even cooler is that it's doing it through my sunglasses like that's well, it just lost it there there it's doing it right there.  I just want to kind of talk to you about what you need to make a big overview video on Wednesday. I just want to kind of talk about like what the camera can do, what the camera cannot do, who should buy this camera, who should not buy this camera, and then we're going to ask like, what do you guys think? What do you guys want to see out of the bigger videos and what cameras do you want to see this compared against? So the Rebel SL3 is a small, like probably the smallest DSLR ever made. That sounds like a good title for the big video about it. It might be the smallest DSLR ever made

1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. It has the Digic 8 image processor. This in a first for the SL line of cameras can record in 4K 24 frames per second, but it does that much like the M50 and the EOS RP. Um, it has a nine-point autofocus system with dual pixel autofocus, but the big benefit out of the SL3 as opposed to the SL2 and it's really the biggest difference is this has eye detection autofocus and we'll test that more out in a video on Wednesday, but that's one of the cool things about the SL3 is if you like doing video stuff, it's always nice to be able to have the eye and focus because we generally like in 2018, 2017, 2018, it was all about face detection

 This is like the perfect. It's just an amazing lens. It's very small, but it looks great. But yeah, we are currently in 1080p 30 frames per second because again, we can't do 24 frames per second

 hello today I'm going to be doing something a little bit different and I'm going to review this the new Canon 800D those of you that have been following me for a while will know I do like to do the odd gear review and that's what this is going to be today it's not going to be a review where we delve into settings or features of the new camera I like to get out into the real world and really put a camera through its paces and that's what I'm going to do today from a landscape photography point of view photography can get very expensive can't it and the 5D Mark IV is a hugely expensive camera over 3,000 pounds but this is much more reasonable and something much more likely that people just getting into photography or even amateurs will start to buy and you can still get really good pictures from a camera like this or at least that's what I'm going to test out today so I'm here in the Lake District in Krummock water and I'm going to start the day like many of my vlogs with a little time-lapse one of the things this has built in is a movie time-lapse mode so we're going to put that through its paces come with me and we'll test out this camera let's go now one of the reasons that I've upgraded to this camera from the old 700D was for the video features this camera has what the Canon 5D Mark IV has and that's the dual pixel autofocus for video and Canon absolutely nail that technology and it makes shooting video on a DSLR so easy so really I think this is going to be just the perfect vlogging camera there's going to be no more of those shots especially walking ones like this where my face goes slightly out of focus because it gets distracted by something in the background so it should be much improved on this camera it is still lacking in 4k which is a bit of a shame this really would be the perfect vlogging camera if it had that but Canon have still decided to keep that off this model today for the video though everything you see if the camera itself is not actually in the shot will be shot on the 800D so you can really get an idea of what the video footage looks like right one of the shots I wanted to capture today was a macro shot I don't do that much macro photography out and about but when I do I want to know that the camera I am using can cope with that so I want to test that out with the 800 D to make sure it can do this now I found this really pretty purple thistle plant I don't know what it's called but it's covered in spikes and I don't want to touch it to stop it blowing around in the wind so I'm just going to compose my shot on this little bud that's in front of me here and hope that the autofocus system of this camera will be able to handle the changes in the focus field as it moves and blows about in the wind the focus speed does also depend a little bit on this lens I have the Canon L macro 100 millimeter lens on here settings wise I am at 1 200th of a second because I don't want to see any of that motion in the flower I'm at f5 just to sort of extend the depth of fields a little bit because if I go any less than that it will just be too blown out in my shots and then I'm at ISO 400 to balance out that exposure there's then some of these ferns and they're going to act as a nice green background to my shot this camera has 46 autofocus points I think so it should do a pretty good job here let's give it a try it is blown about quite a lot so I'm just going to try and compose the shot get some of that nice green into the background I'm in AI focus mode so it moves it tracks it but then it does lock on as well and it's at what the point that it beats that I'm gonna shoot so let's have a look at that and that's looking really good one thing you should expect when shooting in Britain in July or any time of year and particularly when you come to the Lake District is some bad weather it's quite changeable it's fairly dull conditions even though it was forecast to be nice and it's probably only matter of time before the 800 D here gets its first test of getting a little bit wet the 700 D that I had before this one was pretty good it got pretty wet on several occasions and still survived it died once when I dropped it in the mud but we'll see probably today how the 800 D does so I'm at the top and I've not said this for a while but I've got those 360 degree views all the way around and trying not to fall off the mountain it is absolutely stunning however the weather is not quite playing ball as I would like it to I was planning to get this sort of composition here for the sunset but it's just not working out with the weather so I'm not going to risk it and hang around until sunset time but I am gonna put this Canon 800 D to good use now and capture a nice landscape shot okay so I'm set up for a shot I've got the Canon 800 D down here on the tripod I've got a nice composition as you can see behind me and I'm using the rocks either side of the foreground just to lead you in to that lake and those beautiful mountains in the background there I've got the two lakes in there so it's quite an interesting shot I've got the circular polarizer on the front to take some of that sheen off the water now what I'm looking for in when I'm testing a new camera is particularly sharpness in the corners of the frame that is quite dependent on the lens though and at the moment I've got the 10 to 18 millimeter lens on there because I want to show that you can get great landscape photographs even with a really good value camera so all in all the camera is about 750 pounds and that lens you can get secondhand for about 100 pounds so you're well under 900 pounds here for this full setup and you can get some really good landscape images I'm going to be using the two second timer on the camera and I'm bracketing this shot at the moment I'm at f16 to get these rocks in the foreground in focus and then the shutter speed is at about 1 tenth of a second I so at 100 because I want to really see what this camera can do so classic mountain weather I've got my shots in the bag I've done a time-lapse and while that's all been happening the weather has turned absolutely beautiful I'm back on the set 800d 700d 800d here and then I am going to climb down from the mountain get back down to the lake and capture the final shot of the day absolutely glorious Ok, so I'm set up for the last shot of the day. I've got the camera on the tripod, the Canon 800D with that 10-18mm lens on. I'm using this big rock in the foreground here and that's just sending you into the lake and then into the mountains in the background.out

 You should really never run out of battery. I haven't even tested it because I've probably shot videos, probably like five videos on one battery before filming maybe like 30 minutes per video.
