Canon EOS 7D vs Canon EOS 90D

I'm not wealthy. Not being wealthy, I can't afford the latest and greatest. This also means I can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars on new flashes.

As with anything, I feel like you just have to list out your requirements, figure out your price point, and then see if Equipment X checks all the boxes. 90D is certainly a quality piece of gear, just have to see if it fits everything.

I know it’s not a top tier camera but it was in my budget and I felt like I would actually use it. I’m not sure if technically it outperforms the 7D… but it seems like it does! Anyways… I would love to invest in a lens here soon. I would love a sigma lens but it’s a little pricey so I’m wondering if a Canon 50mm would be worth it?

Honestly, I feel like full frame is overvalued, especially for non-professionals who don't need the best of the best to make max profit. That being said, they are rather close, in size as well as in price. I'd usually go with MILC over DSLR, but that's a personal thing and your opinion or feelings might differ, but I assume you don't have a preference, otherwise you'd not be asking the question. If you get FF lenses for better quality, then size doesn't matter, they'll be close

5MP sensor with support for 4K video, improved autofocus both in the viewfinder and Live View, and some slight ergonomic improvements. The upgrades aren't significant enough for us to consider it the actual replacement for the EOS 7D Mark II, which is still on sale with a more rugged build and better-feeling controls, but the 90D is an attractive camera for customers happy with the features and feel of the 80D and earlier models. We recommend that buyers looking at SLRs also consider mirrorless options, but if you absolutely prefer an optical viewfinder, the 90D doesn't disappoint.

While the raw files have excellent dynamic range, the tonality in the JPEG versions look a little more compressed than I'm happy with, and more than can be explained away by a difference in bit depth (the same raw image opened as 16-bit in Photoshop and then downconverted to 8-bit retains better contrast). As for the video, it looks very good, though to me not nearly as sharp or saturated as a midrange Canon HD camcorder (the trade-off, here, of course, is interchangeable lenses for a reasonable price). The biggest draw for current Canon users thinking of stepping up from the 50D (or that class of camera) to the 7D is the improved autofocus and better photo quality at higher ISO sensitivities; it's significantly better than the 50D in those respects, and well worth the price differential. Things aren't quite as clear when compared with the 5D Mark II

That said, its high ISO performance isn't quite as competitive as some mirrorless alternatives. It's still okay in dim lighting, but you're better off shooting at moderate and lower ISOs to avoid introducing too much digital noise. It's also fairly heavy and bulky, making it less suitable for travel or for those who simply prefer a lighter kit when on the go. Still, if you're interested in a DSLR, this is one of the best crop-sensor DSLRs that we've tested

The 90D with a 300mm lens is perfect for hand held wildlife thanks to the crop factor the 300mm becomes a 480mm which gives me a ton of reach in a kit that cost less than $1800 and isn't a huge 500mm on a full frame where the animals will be gone by the time I get the tripod setup.

Battery life? Haven't had an issue but bought another one for back-up purposes. I was a bit ticked at having to buy another baterry at $80 since I already have two with my 40D and it seems like a waste - but I'm sure there's a reason. Right Canon? You probably want to get at least a 16 GB card with 60 MB/s. I've used my old 4GB and 8GB without issues but it nice to have the extra space and speed to shoot JPEG and RAW at a high FPS
