 Hi I'm Gordon from Camera Labs and this is my review of the Canon EOS 250D or Rebel SL3 as it's known in North America. The 250D as I'll refer to it in this review is a compact DSLR aimed at photographers or vloggers buying their first interchangeable lens camera but we want to start with a step up from entry-level models. The kit costs 599 pounds or 649 US dollars and that gets you a small but well-featured DSLR with a 24 megapixel APS-C sensor, the choice of using an optical viewfinder or a fully articulated touch screen, 1080p movies with great autofocus, 4k video with less good focus, wi-fi with bluetooth, a microphone input and the EFS 18 to 55 millimeter f4 to 5.6 STM zoom and that's the lens that I've used for most of my tests in this video

The M50 offers pretty much everything that the Canon 250D does but there are a couple of differences in favour in my opinion for the 250D. You get a lot longer battery life

 It's worth me mentioning that they have now released version two but that's on the higher models of the Canon series of cameras so you're looking at you know the R6, the R5, things like that. There are some other cameras with it as well but you can't expect to be getting all of the best features on a low price camera. But the dual pixel autofocus version one is one that I've used for many years and it's never let me down. It's always been brilliant quality, never really gone out of focus and it's always been perfect especially for shooting things like YouTube videos like this or vlogging

 The 250D comes with the dual pixel autofocus. Now this is version one. It's worth me mentioning that they have now released version two but that's on the higher models of the Canon series of cameras so you're looking at you know the R6, the R5, things like that. There are some other cameras with it as well but you can't expect to be getting all of the best features on a low price camera

 It's got 4k as well for 250D. It's worth mentioning the 4k because Canon branded it as a small DSLR camera with 4k so it does have it but the 4k is not particularly that good. Now the actual quality of the 4k is okay but if you're someone expecting to get most of your pictures or films in focus then you're not going to get that because the contrast based autofocus on the 4k is particularly bad. But if you're a manual shooter and you can shoot manual video then you can get some great quality video with the 4k then

The camera can also record 4k video, has an excellent autofocus system, and has very good battery life&mdash;everything you need and then some. The Nikon D5600 is also worth considering in this price range, especially if you need something a tad more portable, but it isn't as well-rounded, with no 4k and a less reliable autofocus system. Overall, the T8i is one of the most full-featured beginner DSLRs around, and it's a great option for those looking for something that falls in the sweet spot between budget and higher-end models.

Mirrorless options are a great choice for hybrid or video shooters thanks to their quick autofocus systems, but you can't go wrong with a tried-and-true DSLR camera for photography. 6x crop sensor plus a 2x crop for 4k video.  I recorded to a Ninja V (mainly to be able to break the 30 minute mark). Footage looks good for the price on an entry level camera. Not a huge dynamic range, but it looks good, especially after being able to dial things in with the tools on the Ninja V

 The main reason I bought it was because it could do the 4K 24P clean HDMI out. I was going to go with the 90d, but Canon refuses to fix the 24P clean out bug (outputs as 30P even though 24P is selected). My workflow is to blu-ray which means I need 24P. After considering dropping Canon altogether, I decided to stick with the T8i (and hand down my T4i to my daughter and share my lens collection)

 A lot of room to grown and learn. One thing I won't discuss because I don't use it, is the video mode. I'm using this primarily as a camera. Video is extra and may be used at some point but that isn't a consideration

 Always fuzzy. This is my issue, not the camera's I’m sure. Or so I thought but upon reading many Canon lens reviews I find a common thread among some is the auto focus either doesn’t work or stops working.  The camera body is surprisingly light although for my smaller women’s hands I find it a little awkward, especially the shutter button

  In the end I ended up returning it due to the lens. It really doesn’t do the work I wanted a camera for and the lenses are so confusing and expensive. The lens should compliment the camera and not drag it down.

You could really even look at a t7, same camera really, big drawback is no flip screen but it’s less than half the price, otherwise just get the t8i or sl3 you will be able to take fantastic photos with any of them, modern camera sensors are so good and that is a decent kit lens, you can add an ef-s 55-250 is stm lens as well if you want a nice telephoto zoom to complete the kit. You will be more than happy with the quality of images you can produce, the only limitation will really be your technique,.

I'm looking into getting my first camera after a few years. One of my ex-girlfriends had a T3i and I enjoyed using it. Learned a little bit about aperture, ISO, etc. I'm currently looking to get back into photography just as a hobby. I would like to have a camera that is capable of taking nice photoshoot/portrait style photos (think outdoor photoshoot) and some landscapes. I am taking a trip out east this summer to visit my dad is COVID protocols permit.

Currently I am deciding between the T8i and the SL3.

This camera would mostly be used for some outdoor photoshoot type pictures for friends, and then also for Instagram/travel pictures of landscapes. I know I will need a wider lens for the landscapes so I'm interested in learning more about that.

Deciding between two cameras, beginner to DSLR.

 The flip screen is definitely a bigggg plus! Also it comes with a lot of easy setting for beginners. I don’t use them often but they do come in handy here and there. I prefer shooting in RAW and in Manual. But even if you are still learning the auto settings are pretty dope! I also love how I can’t transfer photos without removing my SD card! The only reason why this didn’t get 5 stars is because it came with the wrong battery charger! I received a LC-E12 charger instead of an LC-E17

The media could not be loaded. I love about every feature on this camera! Even though it is larger than my first camera (Canon SL1), it’s just as light! I love how the battery compartment and card reader are placed where I can change them out without having to remove my camera from the tripod! That’s a big upgrade for me. Apologies if this is a bit of a simple question, but I thought this subreddit might be more useful than Google. For years I have used an EOS Rebel T3 camera owned by my family, which we acquired in the early 2010s. I used it to take outdoor pictures of my cosplays when I was in high school. Now that I live on my own, my family has kept the camera, and I'm looking to buy a similar model for myself to take more cosplay photos! Really the only functionality I use is the normal shooting mode, without flash, on auto, to take outdoor cosplay pictures. I'm wondering what is the cheapest canon model I can get with this same functionality, and which resembles the EOS Rebel T3 (setup-wise) so it'll be easy for me to use. I don't need the fancy new additions like Wi-Fi or anything like that. I DO want a quality DSLR camera that will take cosplay pictures in high resolution (and that will outlast a new iphone w/ portrait mode by years and years). I really like the way the EOS Rebel T3 photos look, in terms of how sharp and bright they are.

Let me know if you have any suggestions! I am also looking to acquire this camera FAST, because I'm in a different state for the summer and would love to get some new pictures here in my outfits before I move back to the cold northeast in the fall. So, ideally something I can have shipped with Amazon Prime or that I can pick up at Walmart, etc. within the next week. (Which limits my opportunities to buy used cameras, I know). I'm hoping to spend less than $500 but open to more.
