The 16-35mm F4 is a great lens, well worth the money. But its overkill on a 70D. I have one and I never put it on my 80D.

Unless you're bound and determined to go full frame in the future, I would actually look at the Canon 10-18mm EF-S. Great lens with IS that goes for about $200 on the used market. I have an 80D and an M50 and that lens cranks out great shots. I would put good money on it equalling the 17-40mm's optical quality on an APS-C sensor

As title says. I currently have a 70D and M50 and looking to upgrade my glass before I upgrade either of the bodies! 

The 17-40 is actually surprisingly cheap in my opinion with option out there for 350€. The 16-35 sits around 600€ so almost double the price. 

I'm wondering if the price vs quality is worth it for the 16-35. I mostly shoot landscape or astrophotography shots om a tripod with occasionally some other things. I could go for the cheaper option and use the saved money on another L lens. What would you say?

 My 10-22 produces much smoother images with noticeable less sharpening. This could be a deal breaker for some people but I prefer the ability to use IS and have my images sharp and in focus. I noticed that the front lens glass element does not sit flush with the zoom zoom/focus ring and body of the lens at 10mm. It will sit flush when the zoom ring is set to 14mm

 The game changer is the IS. In low light with the slightest shake using the 10-22 and the picture is out of focus. With the 10-18, there is a higher chance of images coming in focus with minor shaking or motion. Upon further inspection, the 10-18 produces sharper images, but I didnnotice some grain/noise overall when zoomed in

 USM is very quiet but after using the 10-18, STM is absolutely silent. I even put my ear up to the lens to try to hear any focusing and nothing. Video can be taken in Liveview using autofocus with no mechanical noise. Both lenses produce great image quality

I own the Canon 10-22 USM and love it, and I also had good experiences using the Canon STM lenses. So the combination of both wide angle and STM just makes sense. After first inspection, the lens is just slightly smaller than the 10-22 mm, made of solid durable plastic, and amazingly light. The only real major thing missing form the 10-18 is the distance scale and maybe the extra 4 mm of zoom from the more expensive 10-22

Must have UWA.

  You can easily fix vignetting, and a lot of the times, you crop out barrel distortion, so that isn't a big deal to me.  P.S, I am not going to try and act like I am some sort of nuts and bolts photography expert, but I do know a little about photography. If you care to, check out some of my work below to decide how much weight to give my review

  The Good : The lens is sharp, accurate, focus is quick, and silent. The Image stabilization works very well. I can't tell you how many stops, because I have never needed to use IS for still photos. I use the IS for video, and it seems to help keep down vibrations, and jarring

  Summary: For the price, this lens is a great addition to our EOS M, along with the adapter. It is MUCH cheaper than the 11-22 EFM that is made for the EOS M camera. I am very satisfied with my purchase. It slightly defeats the purpose of why I bought the EOS M in the first place, but it isn't that much more to lug along

I find this lens to be an excellent addition to the EOS M

  Summary--For the price, I recommend this lens. Four stars due to build quality, higher aperture numbers, and minor distortion. If you're looking for a wide-angle lens that doesn't bust the budget, and delivers good quality W I D E images, get this lens!

6, so I need to make sure I'm in a well-lit location to get the best results. I also notice a bit of distortion at the edges, (verticals bending in), which I can mostly fix in Lightroom, but still--there's a noticeable amount of distortion.  Summary--For the price, I recommend this lens. Four stars due to build quality, higher aperture numbers, and minor distortion

 I'm not disappointed. Pros and Cons-- Pros: It gets really wide at 10mm, and has opened up a new world of "wide angle" photography for me. It gets so wide in fact, I need to be careful so as not to make subjects look too distorted. I'm planning a trip to Alaska next month, and wanted a lens that could capture as much scenery as I can cram into each shot

Affordable Wide Angle

.. I mentioned the ease of auto focus and that my preference is manual normally, but if one uses the manual focus it is super fast and easy because the auto focus ring is awesome!  I wish I found this Lens sooner! I mostly shoot wildlife and landscapes and I am a total amateur, but I really enjoy photography, and this lens REALLY creates an incredibly shallow bokeh. This can be a great feature when shooting portraits

 However, if metal versus plastic is very important to you, this might not be the lens for you.  If paper vs metal isn't critically important, you just might LOVE this lens. I know I do! Super fast focusing. Super quiet focusing

Great lens at a GREAT price!

The Canon 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens is awesome but the one thing I don't like about it is that the aperture does not allow a lot of light to come in and is hard to get bokeh. However, 10mm is amazing as I used to shoot with a kit lens, 18-55mm f/3

5-5.6 IS STM , and it was the best thing I ever saw when I saw 10mm. Amazon also had a great delivery service as well and delivered the lens in perfect condition while protecting it really well so, the lens came undamaged and I would recommend this lens to any vlogger as it gives a wide angle on an APS-C body and to me that is essential for vloggers

The lens is nice but it has some flaws

 Because 10-18mm is 16-29mm equivalent, which is wide enough. And it is light weight, has stabilization and a silent step motor, all desirable features for any video work.  But in practice I found this lens just too slow (in terms of aperture) for general vlogging purposes. Unless you want your face very deformed, you end up using it in the 14mm and above range, where the aperture drops to f/5

 So unless you are planning to vlog in full daylight only, I can not recommend this lens.  For photography it's not even worth considering, it is not a particularly sharp lens and the step motor offers no benefit in photography. In the same price range you can get an older model lens, with USM motor (or no motorized AF at all), but sharper glass and/or more aperture instead.  For a really cheap vlogging solution on Canon APS-C cameras, get the Canon 24mm f/2

  But in practice I found this lens just too slow (in terms of aperture) for general vlogging purposes. Unless you want your face very deformed, you end up using it in the 14mm and above range, where the aperture drops to f/5.6. Meaning all indoor footage turns out either extremely grainy or under exposed

 Good size, low weight. Makes you feel like your Rebel series has "real" lens, not so much of the toy feel that other EF-S kit lens can have.

Just received this lens. Still haven't gotten the chance to take it out for some good landscape shots. Focus takes a bit getting used to- Must have camera on to change is a weird feeling. Also the STM motor is dead quiet which makes me sometimes not even realize that it's trying to autofocus which I'm sure I'll get used too

 10mm setting definitely has some distortion but I'm sure that Lightroom will clear up most of it and for the price- Can't be beat by anything in the cannon line up for the same FOV - Especially for a cropped sensor. Not a five star just because the plastic mount, no "truly" manual focus, and 4.5 Aperture has some trouble in low light with AF. Other than that, I can't wait to try this out

Still haven't gotten the chance to take it out for some good landscape shots

6, it goes away quite quickly. Overall, testing out this new Tamon lens was a delightful experience. Its consistently high sharpness and beautiful bokeh, as well as its close focus distance, makes it a creative and versatile zoom lens that lets you capture some beautiful images. It's a very nice improvement over its predecessor in a number of different ways, and at $900 US dollars, it's expensive but still good value for money, so I've no hesitation at all in saying that this one comes highly recommended

 It feels much more solid and smoother to touch. It doesn't feel too heavy on your camera either, weighing just over half a kilogram or a little under two pounds. The metallic rear lens mount is surrounded by a weather sealing gasket. Also towards the rear there's a USB-C port for firmware updates, and that is followed by a plastic manual focus ring, which turns very smoothly and cooperates with the focus motor very responsively

 out of the new Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 Di3 VXD G2 lens, the follow-up to their very popular

 and affordable original fast standard zoom lens for Sony's full-frame mirrorless cameras.

 Tamron claim that this G2 version of the lens comes armed with a number of improvements,

 but it's also a little more expensive than the original at US$900 or £850 here in the

 UK. I'd like to say a big thank you to Tamron's UK distributor for loaning me one of the only

 review copies of the lens that they had for a week for testing purposes, although as usual
