There is no mystery as to why – pellet grills offer the control of a household kitchen oven but produce the flavor and texture of charcoal grills and wood smokers. Traditionally, they are not the type of grill that you'd want to tote along with you on an RV trip or to tailgate the big game, but the  Camp Chef Portable Pellet changes that. With a bit of clever design, this model collapses to a size that can be wheeled around and transported into spaces that are a fraction of the size of where most pellet grills can fit. The controls for this grill are digital, allowing you to select the exact temperature you need for the cut you're cooking. If the controls weren't precise enough, there are two digital thermometer probes so that you know exactly when your meat's internal temperature has reached the perfect point. There's no need for piezo buttons, a lighter, or starter fluid with this grill because the ignitor is electric. 
Some of the things we love the most about the Camp Chef Portable Pellet tie directly to its weaknesses. Not only is the ignitor electric, but so is the auger that feels pellets from the hopper into the grill, which means that this grill needs to be plugged into an AC outlet. If you're at home, in an RV, or have a decent power bank, this isn't much of an issue. But for folks that like to go completely off-grid, this model isn't going to work for you. Much like charcoal grills, pellet grills take some time before they're ready for cooking and the Camp Chef Portable Pellet takes a while to warm up. Lastly, this model is really heavy compared to most of the portable grills in our review. The wheels are helpful, but it's not very fun to drag this grill very far from your vehicle. Despite that, we loved cooking with this portable pellet grill – it is the perfect addition to an RV setup.

Such a great little grill/smoker with outstanding features.

We have had this smoker a while now. It's portable and does a good job when you can keep the temperature set. See the issue we have is that the auger has a hard time keeping the pellets moving through the unit. No matter what pellets you use

Disappointed with consistency

 The top grate has fallen out me a few times, I usually remove this. May add some fireproof gasket material to ash pan and replace the grate. Simple stuff, Camp Chef.

 The grease bucket attachment and location are a trainwreck. The bucket is unstable when attached. If there's any kind of wind, the grease usually ends up dripping down the leg, onto the wheel, and then on the ground. Unacceptable

 If you don't have a cover, the ash pan will clang around like church bell on windy days. I remove the bucket and ash pan when I put her to bed. I highly recommend a cover. You're just throwing your money otherwise

 There is a procedure for starting the Smoker after it has been transported and a procedure for shutting it down. Cleaning is easy, take out the two rack and the drip pan, spray with oven cleaner, wait, scrub and hose off. I spray PAM on the above before reinstalling, makes for easy clean up. While the above is out, take an old paint brush, sweep the ashes from the side and vacuume the ashes up

Small but cooks a lot!

  Being portable was a what made me choose this model. It is portable but definitely pushing one guy doing it mostly cause of the size.  I would say its definitely capable of cooking a good some of meat for I'd say easily a group of 10 if doing burgers or ribs. Can definitely hold a good size pork butt also

Update this is like cheating it's so easy

The smoker came damaged. Was shorting out my home electrical, and the internal thermometer was severely bent. Customer service at Camp Chef was fantastic. Talked me through a diagnostic process

 So as expected / I'm satisfied. Have confirmed temperature settings with thermal gun and range is +/- 10 degrees. Good. The grates are good quality, I lined the grease tray & bucket with foil and clean up after the past few days of cooks was easy

Quality pellet grill, large cooking area, plenty of features

 It was a little less expensive than the Traeger but my husband says it’s sturdier and better made. He has also grilled veggies on it. They turn out great too!

 It’s certainly the easiest grill I’ve ever had from a temp control and clean up perspective. Really enjoying the EX6 so far one month after the initial product launch.

 I'Ve never needed to leave something unattended for more than i've, never left anything for that long unattended. Ever but let's say you did it's: how much more time would you need than that? So if it's an issue, i don't really know how big of an issue it is, and i just want to make sure that i covered that in the performance section as well. Let'S have a look at the smokefire's features, the feature that sticks out to me, the most is the operating system that comes built in the weber, connect app that comes with the grill. The grill itself is wi-fi and bluetooth enabled and the app is powered by the june operating system, which is about as good as it gets

The first thing we'll look at is the um, the thickness and construction of the cooking grids. Now, when you're, looking at a pellet grill like this one, there's their cooking grids, measured in at six millimeters thick now for a pellet grill, that's perfectly fine! If you were comparing it against the grids of a charcoal grill or a gas grill, it would seem probably a little wimpy. I would think, because those are just generally beefier

 As far as performance goes, the grill itself rocks steady all night long for low and slow. I didn't have any problems at eight and a half hours, never really even having to check it, stayed the same temperature and that's low and slow, but at the same time the grill has direct flame access and will get all the way up to 600 degrees.  I really, i believe, all of them should to to basically that that fire seal that will that will close, that off on the on the interior of the box. For the lid um, i was actually surprised the other day i was at lowe's, and i saw that the latest uh pit boss elite platinum actually had that um. They actually went through the effort of putting a fire seal all the way around which tends to mimic what you see on most of your commercial smokers, uh and tournament, grills and stuff, like that, so i was. I was very excited to see that i that's something that i've been preaching for a while, and i hope that i hope that other grill brands will catch on to that and they will follow suit

 That goes all the way into this hole and that drops down into here now. That sounds great in theory, but here's the problem, you see all this whale dust right here or not. Welded. Excuse me the pellet dust right here

 This is an add-on. This is add-on extra and the side shelf as well. This is kind of a good and they bad, so the bad is is when you first buy this, you don't get those pieces, so the only food prep area you've got is this, and personally i find it pitiful. It seems to be the smallest of any grill smoker combo that i've actually run across and that's kind of a bummer

 This pull lever, i'm not going to pull it out now, but it basically drops out of the bottom. It'S always nice to have a a pellet shoot so that you can change out your pellets relatively quickly to a different flavor. I do that quite often um here lately, i've been using uh, some charcoal flavored pellets to do most of my my steak and grilling with and then i'm swapping between hickory apple and cherry for most of my smoking stuff. Something else that i want to mention also, that is a a like of mine - is the add-on shelf space, and i want to make sure that that i differentiate that this does not come with the grill

 It's better as a wood-fired high-temperature grill, not a smoker. During long smokes, ash goes everywhere. Temperature is not accurate, and it exhibits wide temperature swings. If there is any wind at all, the grill's temperature control is awful, and will likely not be able to hit its maximum-rated 600 degrees

  Overall, this grill is not worth the price. Weber needs to go back to the drawing board. Maybe in the next iteration it'll be worthy of the Weber name, but right now, it's a hard pass. Returned
