SMALL AND LOUD - Boss Katana 50

 I've had this amp for a few months now and it's about time that I did a review. Now this particular model is the 50 watt combo version. so it's the Boss Katana 50 Mark Ii and the prices for these amplifiers are down around 240 dollars now. Obviously the price is great and they've got a lot of really cool features and these amps have really been hyped up since they were first released

 You know, because this is a Boss product, you have access to the basically the entire catalog of Boss effects but in digital form that you can use on this amplifier. And there's a bunch of built-in effects. and also, you know, like a lot of modern amplifiers, this has a Usb port which will allow you to sort of like import and set up new effects and new patches. Now I want to get into the playing demo so you can hear how the amp sounds like

 You also have a little button right up here. I hope you can see that that says variation on it and that you can hit that to give just sort of a different voicing to the amplifier type that you have selected here. It also has an input for a a foot control, an expression pedal so that can be either for uh, you know, for switching or it can be an expression pedal for like doing volume swells or something like that. And we have a recording out headphone jack so that's going to be a speaker emulated output which you can either use for headphones or recordings so you can run this directly into a recording interface, not have to worry about miking it up or anything like that

 so it's the Boss Katana 50 Mark Ii and the prices for these amplifiers are down around 240 dollars now. Obviously the price is great and they've got a lot of really cool features and these amps have really been hyped up since they were first released. If I'm being totally honest, I really have not spent very much time with these amplifiers. So in this video, I want to give just sort of a first impression of the amp and see if they're really as amazing as people say they are

Does The BOSS KATANA Live Up To The HYPE?

 And I'll tell you why I want the 100 watt because I feel like this 1 by 12 inch speaker just doesn't push as much air as I would like like when I'm playing right? We play with a pretty loud drummer and bass player or singers playing acoustic too, so there's a lot of volume on stage right, playing some rock themed country really. So what I would prefer is to have two 12-inch speakers pushing just a little bit more air and getting a little bit more thump and low wind out of it. That's what I would prefer, but that's just me personally. Okay, that just fits the solid music that we play a little better

 combining those you can really achieve any sound that you desire as a guitar player. I mean, it has all of Boss's effects pedals on the Tone Studio. Ouch! Dad. Gum bugs swatting like everything

BOSS KATANA 50 MKII... [Should You Buy This in 2021?]...My HONEST Review after 1 year of owning

 I also don't care or have any interest in "gigging" - just want to play in the apt. and get some tones that I like, quickly.  I have a Marshall DSL that is just far superior for what I was looking for and it's super easy to use. Incredible tone, tube feel/sound that is authentic, and I can push that sound at a very low volume with its attenuator, as well

 None of the amp models that this had (Brown/Crunch/Lead/etc.) went quite heavy enough for the sound I was particularly seeking. i.e

Cool 12" Amp but definitely for Intermediate or Advanced Users; over-hyped for newbies like me

Boss Katana 50 is the way to go. It's literally the best option in the price range and there is literally nothing better amp wise in that price range. It's versatile, it can sound great quietly or loudly, lots of effects and tonal options. A Marshall MG15fx would be underwhelming and disappointing, nothing that Marshall makes at that price range sounds good or gets you as much versatility as a Katana

Long time occasional guitar player, for the past 10 years since I've left my parents house I haven't had the chance to own or use an amp, and have been played exclusively through my computer using headphones (AKG K701). I live in an apartment and my main concern is to not bother the neighbors, however I'd love to experience playing on an amp again.

So I'm turning to you to help me find a good sounding amp that can work well at very low volume. I play rather diverse stuff, I use a Strat for solos and have an 8 string for dirty metal sounds.

I've looked at amps that have built in effects (saw people recommending the **Yamaha THR10II**), however I already have an effects pedal (**Zoom G7.1UT**). I don't know if it's good or if I should rather use an amp's built-in effects. The Zoom will always be plugged in anyway because I like to use the volume pedal.

I've always dreamed of having a Marshall amp so I've been looking at the **GM15GFX**, but maybe it's too loud and something like the Roland Micro Cube might better fit my low volume need ? I'll admit that while the Yamaha combo sounds very good judging by Youtube videos, I'm not a fan of its looks, though I could live with it if it's truly the best choice.

My budget is also limited, I need something around 300€ at most (ideally less than 200).

[QUESTION] What small combo would you recommend me for apartment use ?

 You got your flanges, rotary ring modulation, compression auto wah, guitar simulator, acoustic simulator you got your human eyes er, you got all these cool effects here and you can use them in the effects section as well so you can double up if you want to and similarly to the booster. If you go into this modulation section, you can see. because we had the green channel selected when we go into modulation, we are now of tweaking the settings for that course. So here's a lot of fine tuning parameters that you can adjust on that course setting

 And this isn't one of those amps that you're going to buy and then throw away once you get better. This is an amp that you can buy as a beginner and as you grow as a guitarist, it'll still keep up with all those demands including recording and live gigging. So let's quickly run through the specs on this amp. So as the name suggests, it's a 50 watt combo with a 12-inch speaker at the back

 The bottom line is that this is a pro level amp at an entry level price point. If you want to get into the electric guitar or you've got an electric guitar and you're looking for your first amp, then you cannot go wrong with the Boss Katana Range. The amount of features and world-class effects and tones in this thing are just unreal. This thing can pretty much do it all

 This is a really light app. actually it's only about 10 kilos, so that's a whole lot lighter than my Fox Ac30 which is Beth's or 30 kilos. I Absolutely hate lugging that thing around.  Bright 1 and Normal 1 provide you with 6dB (decibels) more gain. So already you have so many tonal configurations to choose from. Additionally, you can "jumper" between the bright and normal channels if you choose to dial in your tone that way. Personally, I exclusively use the normal channel (1st and 2nd inputs) because the bright channel is just TOO bright for my liking

 I'm leaving this review today because I absolutely LOVE this amp and I would like to share with you some things I've learnt about this beautiful beast over the last 8 years. Before you even plug your guitar into the amp you'll notice that there are 4 input jacks (Bright 1, Bright 2, Normal 1 and Normal 2). Bright 1 and Normal 1 provide you with 6dB (decibels) more gain. So already you have so many tonal configurations to choose from

 In fact, when you first get this amp you may think both channels are too bright. Don't be discouraged though, it takes a long time to break in Jensen P10Rs. My advice is to either play a loop through the amp or simply just play at loud volumes for extended periods of time. One of the things I really like about this amp is that it's super sensitive to your picking dynamics

 Just pushing it over the edge You know, that's what every overdrive pedal is trying to replicate that kind of vibe. So yeah, very cool And now we're going to try the same guitar with a blend of both channels Put the normal channel up to eight and the bright channel Up to about five. Here we go Um All right, so That was maybe the loudest amp i've ever had in the house here that I can remember It feels ridiculously loud having four speakers and 50 watts and being able to jump the channels like that What a tone though. It is unreal It's one of the few sort of amps without a reverb where you don't necessarily need a reverb But I know a lot of people including myself like to know how these kind of amps will work with a reverb going into the front end Now rick and I dr rick and I had already shot a video of this amp on 10 So if you want to see that i'll try and find it and link it up in the cards But what a cool amplifier man

 I can see now why So many people rave about these if you're say playing at a club where you can get away with running this up man, it just It just holds on to the notes beautifully you get just beautiful sustain And you get all the reaction from playing soft and then playing hard. It sounds great for chords It sounds great for lead and crack it up and get big rock and roll sounds. Fender '59 Bassman - It's 'Call the Cops' LOUD!

 I'm going to do one other guitar here, do a hollow body, because why not, sorry, a little popping sound, so this will be normal channel two, because I'm going to go for just kind of like a nice warm jazz sound, so typically I'd use the normal for that. Channel two, because this is a hollow body, so I really want not a lot of gain, so it'll stay clean as well as not feedback too, too much, so this is what I got right now. Right, so you see a really, really nice sound, I could roll off some tone and get a little bit more of this kind of sound. Now with this guitar, if I was using it more in a jazz setting, I'd probably use the normal channel, if I was doing more of an acoustic show, I might switch over to the bright channel, I'd probably still stay in input two, because again, I don't really, this wouldn't be a guitar I would look to really do much of any gain on, because it's going to feedback, but here, on the bright channel, plenty bright, right, for sure for more acoustic-y stuff

Now with this guitar, if I was using it more in a jazz setting, I'd probably use the normal channel, if I was doing more of an acoustic show, I might switch over to the bright channel, I'd probably still stay in input two, because again, I don't really, this wouldn't be a guitar I would look to really do much of any gain on, because it's going to feedback, but here, on the bright channel, plenty bright, right, for sure for more acoustic-y stuff.  So now, put up some distortion on, this will be the rich humbucker. So here, what's nice is, starting wide, there's not a ton of gain, which I like, I like to have some kind of option where it's just a nice, kind of smoother, lower gain, and then one of the things I like most, as I mentioned before, is having some kind of booster pedal at the beginning of your chain, because it almost gives several other more channels to whatever gain pedal you're using. So here is RC Booster on top of it, with channel one, it's already a nice, pretty fat rock and roll sound, well, I should tune it, but that's okay, and here's one more boost on top of it, so definitely getting into that classic rock gain thing, and again, I don't do a whole lot of high gain stuff, so that's about as gainy as I ever get, but you could even, if you wanted to, put a tube screamer on top of that for more lead and delay and all that kind of stuff, it's going to be able to do all that kind of thing too. So again, that is a Les Paul, I'm going through the bright channel too, you could certainly do normal, but again, Les Pauls are already a little dark, so for me, sometimes that normal channel will get a little bit too dark and muddy, and it's nice for the Les Paul to do bright

 It sounds really good on the bridge, and I'll get a nice twang, again, what's nice is on this bright setting, it's pretty twangy, I mean, it's got a lot of brightness to it. I can adjust that presence, which is nice, so if I put the presence up a little more, it would get even a little more twangy. If it's getting a little too harsh on that top end, I might roll some of the presence off. Now you can do the same thing with the treble, sort of, but for me, I like to kind of keep the EQ the same, and then that presence is just affecting a certain frequency
