 I can dull the delay repeats. This thing's doing it straight away. Let's hear the analog mode next, because I remember on the old Boss DD20, the analog mode was my favorite. Let's hear it straight up with the same settings

 I'll turn the feedback all the way up. I remember a time when digital delays could not do that. That's super cool. OK, so they've captured that set of the analog behavior

 I'll come back to actually I'll let you hear it just adds a bit of grit. I'll turn it all the way up. Super cool. Can it self-oscillate? That's a good question

 I would then add some modulation with the modulation depth control. So this kind of lives up to the promise that all you have to do is twist a few knobs and you get a great guitar tone. I really like that on the standard digital mode. The mysterious parameter control on this particular delay mode essentially adds like a swell to your delay repeat

BOSS DD-200 - In Depth pt. 1

 It's programmable, it's got four memory locations, analog drive-through. It's 32-bit 96k internal processing for super good audio. It does have MIDI on these little eighth-inch jacks here. You just need a MIDI conversion cable from Boss that's sold separately

 I'm going to solo some of those parts from the track at the beginning of the video outside of the mix, it's the Boss DD-200., this is a great sounding delay. Somewhere in the middle of, say, just the standard Boss DD-7 delay and their full-blown DD-500 delay that's programmable with all kinds of memory locations, this one's right in the middle of those two, I would say. If you want something that's tweakable, but you don't want to page through menus and stuff like that, you just kind of like reaching down and turning a knob, this could be a great delay for you

 The bottom line, the thing just sounds great, it sounds really, really lush and awesome. It oscillates really nicely on the tape delays and the analog delays, the lo-fi delays got a really cool distorted kind of effect to it, and the shimmer echo really sounds superior in this. Shimmer can be overused, I know, but if you're into that sort of thing, if you like shimmer echo, it sounds really terrific in this. It's just got a really smooth tail to it, and you can store up to four presets

 Now you heard me use a bunch of those on the song at the beginning of the video. I didn't get them all in, but I got a lot of them in, and I'm going to solo all those parts in a minute outside of the mix so that you can hear the characters of the individual different delay algorithms. This is a really nice delay if you want something that's programmable and tweakable, but you don't want to go as far as say the Boss DD-500, which has a lot of parameters and menus and stuff that you can get into to tweak the delay. Most of the audio controls on this are all right, as a matter of fact, I think all of them are all on the knobs on the pedal, so you can easily control things like the tone of the delay, the modulation depth, the delay time

BOSS DD200 - GREAT DELAY, VERSATILE YET SIMPLE!

It's considerably smaller than the DD-20 first of all, has stereo, on board and external tap tempo/expression control, presets, and has all the basic algorithms (plus extras). It's also significantly more user friendly than it's big box sibling the DD-500.

I got a DD-20 which A) is a honking thing and B) has way too many algorithms, the only thing I dig about it is that it’s in stereo. Thought about getting one of the big box delays but then found myself probably being put in a similar situation. I want a compact delay pedal in stereo (presets are really a huge thing for me) but I do want something with a fairly long delay time. Thought about the Mako D1 but would like your suggestions.

Curious for delay options to “replace,” my DD-20

 And what I love about it versus a TC electronics Flashback is that you can dial in the exact delay time and number of repeats. But there are no complicated menus to navigate. You can run in stereo or mono and have an expression pedal. And this is under $300

 It's a digital delay pedal with a couple of different modes. But we like to go deeper here, and by go deeper I mean we read the manual. For example, this pedal has Tap Tempo. You wouldn't know it by looking at it, but it does

 I was getting into it. Let's pull it apart a little bit just so we can hear the individual guitar part. So first here's the rhythm track where I use the analog mode of the Obscura. Alright and then for the lead part I switch to the tape mode

 And in Reverse mode you're going to hear a lot more tape saturation, since apparently that's based on the Tape mode, I guess. Now if we go purely on face value, that's it. It's a digital delay pedal with a couple of different modes. But we like to go deeper here, and by go deeper I mean we read the manual

Digitech Obscura - Make Degrade

 When you're in tapped tempo mode like this and you change algorithms, all of a sudden you're out of tapped tempo mode and the delay operates just like what's on the face. So we're going to switch over to reverse mode and dial around a little bit here. In reverse mode there is no dry signal present so the level control just becomes the overall level. So check this out

 Turn the degrade knob up, add some grit to it. More delay, more repeats. So let's do roughly the same thing in tape mode. Start with it, degrade down, tone up

 Then over here we've got the delay types. You can switch between analog, tape, lo-fi, and reverse. Then we've got two concentric controls. We've actually got the delay time and the repeats on this one

 I want to show a little bit about what this degrade knob does, and I find that it works really well and it has the largest effect on the tape setting of the mode selector. So I'm going to crank the level up a little bit more. I've got the degrade all the way down right now, but I'm going to try to get it oscillating a little bit and then start degrading the tone, and we're going to see what that does. So using the degrade knob in this way is super cool and it takes this pedal out of the realm of just being a delay into a unique effect of its own

 Tap your tempo that you'd like and then super useful subdivisions preset with the time knob here. So, and the LED is green. That is going to be an eighth note. Bring it up to the middle, starts to turn amber colored and that is going to be a dotted eighth and then bring it all the way to the right and there's going to be a quarter note

 Okay I'm going to move on to the lo-fi setting here and I want to show a little bit about what this toggle can be useful for up here. So this is super useful. Have your tails continue, kick the pedal off, and you can still riff over the soundscapes you've created. Or if you don't want any of that, just turn this off

 Here's my clean tone. Okay, so with your time control you can dial in anything from real quick slap back to up to two seconds of delay.
