 It's in an area where there's no lights really all that close by. The closest is a street light about 100 feet from us and I was pushing 8000 ISO but with that denoise on it's still a little bit rough around the edges but not bad at all. So while you definitely have some solid low light here I'd love to see it get even better with future versions. Then the one other thing that I would love to see in the next version of this camera is in body stabilization

 Blackmagic is clearly a company that loves indie filmmakers and I love them for that. But I had some issues with the 4K too. Some of those issues were also carried over to the next camera with the 6K so I didn't upgrade but now we have the 6K Pro that they just released which really does seem to fix all of my major issues. So that's it for this video, I hope you enjoyed it and I'll see you in the next one

 As we switch over you'll see everything else gets grayed out, we don't have 6K, we do have the 4K DCI, Ultra HD and HD. But the difference with the 4K DCI between the two codecs with RAW you're cropping in on that 6K sensor to get the 4K so you aren't using the entirety of the sensor and you're losing a bit there if you want a wider frame. However with ProRes you are using the whole sensor so you are getting that 4K without the crop and this is just due to the way RAW works. For frame rates you have up to 120 frames per second in 2K and HD and up to 60 with everything else except for full 6K which tops out at 50 frames per second

Need recommendations for a body under $2000

My recommendation would be to bump your budget just a little and get a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k. The 6k is a EF mount cine camera with a large sensor and uses the same batteries as your 5d2 and it unbeatable in a bang for buck. You could go for a bmpcc4k for just a little more than 1000$ but it's micro 4/3 and you would need an adapter for you EF lenses. Much better to get the 6k and get the larger sensor and native ef support

I do youtube videos currently with m50, t4i, and 5Dii  Mostly reviews and vlogs.  I've done a handful of paid work, and do lots of video for my school, where I have some nice camcorders with tiny sensors.

4 months ago I decided to buy a Canon c100, I really liked it but it had a bad internal battery.  I was really surprised when I couldn't find any directions about how to replace it and  it was annoying to have to reset the clock and settings every time I took out the battery so I returned it after a couple weeks.

I bought a 5dii afterwards to try magic lantern which is interesting but often feels like it's more trouble than it's worth.  I really miss having any useful form of autofocus but love the focus peaking from ML.  

Would like to try some different cameras, in the under 1000 dollar price range.  I have EF lens collection.  The thing I loved about the C100 was same excellent autofocus as m50, but it looked better with smaller file sizes, and much better sound with XLR.

Trying to decided between another c100, saving for c100ii, 5Diii, or trying A7s, or something from Canon R series which I don't really know much about.  Or just keep using the M50 which is more than good enough for me.

For reference my budget is roughly $2,000 USD, with a little wiggle room. I would also plan on buying used as I am new to cameras and have seen plenty of deals with a camera and tons of accessories for under/around my budget, including the cameras I am debating about.

Some background on what I need it for: I will be using the camera for sports videography, specifically recording sessions of basketball skills training my buddy does. This involves recording my buddy demonstrating the skill, and then getting footage of his clients working through it. With this I tend to get multiple angles in a run and gun style of shooting for him to use on his website and for promotional videos. I would also like to use it for promotional/commercial-style videos, for the reason above but also to help promote some of my friends' businesses. This would probably be less run and gun but wouldn't count that out as if this turns out well, who knows what I could end up doing.

With the research I've done and getting advice from someone who is also doing the same type of work for a separate trainer, I have come to a few different choices. I have been suggested a Sony a6600, a A7iii, and the A7C for the IBIS and AF. On the other hand, I have also been looking into a Blackmagic 4k for the quality and cinematic style that would be great for the promotional and commercial videos. I have heard plenty of times that the 4k route would still require a heavy investment in a rig to use it to its full potential but something I would like to work towards as I continue doing this. I also understand there is a learning curve with any type of camera and since I am new to the hobby, I would preferably like to stay with the same line of equipment for years to come so I can get adjusted to it and learn everything there is to know about my equipment.

My question I am coming down to at this point is: Is there a way to have a minimal rig setup for a 4k that can achieve what I am wanting with my plans, while I continue to add more pieces to it in the future? Finalizing decision for first camera, advice greatly appreciated!

 There are some downsides to the 6K version, if you're someone that wants to record in ProRes you can't shoot higher than DCI 4K. This is a huge bummer since ProRes can technically handle it, my workflow now is to base grade and resolve and then batch export to ProRes in full 6K and then finish off editing in Final Cut which is the program I prefer. A similar thing goes for Blackmagic RAW, but here you can't shoot in 4K. Before if you were shooting in Cinema DNG they would allow for this but of course you'd have a sensor crop but now it's not an option

 I guess Blackmagic just wants us all to shoot in 6K if we buy this camera which is definitely worth it if your computer can handle it. Image wise of course you can down sample that or up sample it and you get a better image but it would have been nice to have anyways. As I mentioned shooting in 6K gives us a ton of options, we can either oversample it or another great option is to work with an 8K timeline and then export 8K if your computer can handle it. Of course YouTube does not support 6K but it does support 8K up to 60FPS with HDR and a huge benefit of upsampling is you'll have a much higher quality video for future proofing because the bitrate for 8K is much higher than 4K just like 4K is much higher than 1080P

 As far as batteries go, if I'm on a long day shoot, I definitely go the V-mount route, especially with the Pockets, because those little batteries, they, I don't know, it was like 20, 30 minutes max. So definitely, as far as battery power goes, definitely gonna give it to the Z Cam. So when it comes down to media storage, you could do, on the Blackmagics, you could do SD card, CFast, or external SSD. On the Z Cam, you have the option of CFast or SSDs, and which, by the way, the Z Cam Facebook group is phenomenal

 As far as image quality goes, both cameras are freaking great. I love the image from both of the cameras, like you can't go wrong, whether you choose the Pockets or the Z Cam. So with the Z Cam, I definitely feel like it's a lot easier to rig out and stuff like that.  What is going on, world? So today we're here to talk about my personal opinion on the Z Cam and in comparison to the Pocket 4K. So I previously owned the Pocket 4K before switching over to Z Cam, which we're shooting on right now. I have the E2S6, which is a Super 35 sensor that shoots up to 6K. So I actually brought the Z Cam with me on a shoot in Cancun, which I ended up catching COVID and I haven't posted in a while

 If you have any freaking questions or any concerns about something that may or may not work with your camera, definitely search it up, do your research before you dive in. So if I had to nitpick about Z Cam, is that there's a lot of stuff that they say that you can or can't use. As far as image quality goes, both cameras are freaking great.  That's what we have with the E2S6 it's a progression a step forward it's a bump in specs we're getting 6K resolution now we're getting a larger sensor so there's less noise we're getting a locking EF mount some little features and some big features that add up to a better product.  The Speed Booster gives us a shallower depth of field and it reduces the optical difference between the two sensor sizes. I haven't actually talked about the most important aspect of this camera, that would be the 6K resolution, so let's look at the resolution and see what this camera is really giving us. In 6K open gate the highest resolution you'll get is 6244 by 4168 and this is what it looks like if I scale it down to fit in a 4K window. Pixel to pixel this is what the actual resolution looks like

 I think what we're seeing is the progression of technology and affordability as the components become more affordable and more accessible we're getting to see some higher technology some better specs coming down in price. And that's great for us as consumers we get better cameras they can shoot a lot better video for a lot less money than they used to cost.  As I move through the other resolutions I'm going to superimpose them on top of this one since this one will contain all of them and you can see how they compare. These higher resolution modes are a simple crop of the full sensor readout. In fact you can see where my framing got moved just a little bit, the trees don't quite line up with the 6K open gate image. 5K sounds like a drop in resolution until you realize that it's the full vertical size of the sensor and just a little bit off the edges

 But the most exciting thing for me is the fact that this camera has the ability to change its mounts. Once you take this lens off, right now I have a Micro Four Third mount on it, but it has four screws on here that you can detach and you can switch it out to a PL, EF, or Micro Four Thirds like I actually have on this camera right now. I personally have a PL and EF mount as well, and that just gives me a lot more range and options when it comes to lenses I could use from cine style lenses with PL mounts, all the two Micro Four Thirds lenses if I need to that cover the Super 35 sensor. Like I said before, they advertise the Z Cam E2S6 as having 14 stops of dynamic range

 Z Cam here takes a lot of cues from the red cinema camera line, as you can kind of see, which basically comprises of the brain, you know, the camera itself, and then all the accessories you need to add on for it to be functional. So your lens, monitor, battery, and whatever other extensions you need to put on it. But the most exciting thing for me is the fact that this camera has the ability to change its mounts.  And while I'm still pretty unsure of my upgrade path from the Pocket Cinema 4K, the Z Cam E2S6 is absolutely a strong candidate. Now I want to know what you guys think.
