Positives: with most of the weight in the back and the light itself being very light, this thing stays put! Which is great for night runs. I love the adjustability of the brightness and I had no issue with the battery life. The adjustability of the straps is great, it is pretty easy to get a nice snug fit.

Amazing Headlamp, not designed for Women

Based on these experiences, I would never opt to take this on a backpacking or other overnight outdoor adventure. I will definitely try it for running (it is called the sprinter, after all) as our nights fall earlier and for skiing when the snow falls. I expect it to perform well enough for those activities--which is why I titled this review "a one trick pony."

 I have not tried the headlamp yet with those activities; I make the judgement based on my less than satisfactory experience using it in other activities.

 I have worn it on multiple evening runs now and the illumination is great and I love the ability to use batteries or recharge. The battery life is more than sufficient for my distance but I'm not an ultra runner so I'm not sure on the longevity yet. I loved the red lamp on the back for safety. Great feature

 The main downside is that this is not super lightweight given the rather bulky & heavy rear light, so this would not be my first choice headlamp model for backpacking trips.

For minimalists and true ounce-counters, our favorite ultralight headlamp of 2022 is the Nitecore NU25. At just a hair under 1 ounce for the lamp itself (more on the strap below), the Nitecore is surprisingly bright with a 360-lumen max output and rechargeable via micro USB. We’ve also found it incredibly easy to operate (this is a common complaint among headlamp users), with one button for the white beam and one for red. All told, as a high-powered emergency light or for those who want to carry the least possible weight on their back, the NU25 is a bright and relatively cheap option.

Keep in mind that the Nitecore NU25 has four brightness settings: 360, 190, 38, and 1 lumen, respectively. There’s no dimmer, which is a bummer, but certainly something we can get used to. In terms of the strap, the included Nitecore option adds nearly an ounce to the equation at 1.9 ounces total, which is slightly heavier than the BioLite 200 mentioned above. But the Nitecore is the better performer, running for 5 hours on high (190 lumens) compared to the BioLite’s 3 hours at 200 lumens. And for true minimalists and thru-hikers, Litesmith makes a shoestring-style headband for the NU25 that clocks in at just .18 ounces (you can also DIY with a piece of shockcord), bringing the whole setup to 1.17 ounces total.  Now, if it blinks once, you may want to consider charging it because that means it's under ten percent battery life. I Think this is a great way of a battery indicator. I Do wish the headlamp would blink at you when it starts getting below me maybe 10 15 percent. but they still do a great job at this little indicator for the power

 and if you're looking at the stock one, this weighs 24 grams just by itself. So you can see the weight savings by just putting the shock cord on here. And like I said, this is actually more comfortable for the weight of the headlamp. I Actually like this better than the stock band

 And what? this is telling me Since it's blinking three times, that means it's telling me that it's over fifty percent charge. If it blinked at me twice, it would tell me that the headlamp is under fifty percent. Now, if it blinks once, you may want to consider charging it because that means it's under ten percent battery life. I Think this is a great way of a battery indicator

 Now for those of you in the ultralight community that love the Petzl elight, this is probably your next logical progression because for pretty much the same exact weight you have all those extra lumens and all those extra modes. You can still do the ultra light headband on it and it's really, really comfortable. You have to try it for yourself if you don't believe me. but trust me, this headlamp and band is really comfortable

 All they do here is they just run it through this back bracket plate and you can see that a little better. and they just kind of tie it off with some shock cord and make a little headband out of it and it's really, really comfortable. It's actually way more comfortable than I thought it was ever going to be. so like I said I Highly recommend not using the original strap and just going with some shock cord like this

Nitecore NU25 Ultralight Rechargeable Headlamp Review

Nitecore NU25, an Anker 10K that's kinda old, a typical micro-USB cord with an adaptor (adaptor is under a gram), my usual S9 phone, Panasonic earbuds (wired). If it's not very heavily trafficked trail, I carry a ResQLink PLB that's about 3.5 oz.
