 All in all the DT 990's are very good cans; they just aren't for me. Still I debated for quite a while as to whether or not I would keep them. But, in the end I decided I would send them back.  UPDATE: I didn't want to give up on Beyerdynamics, so the day after I returned these 990s I ordered a set of DT-880 Premiums

 With so many variables affecting peoples like or dislike of any pair of phones it is my goal to help those with similar musical tastes and similar gear to determine whether or not these headphones will be a good investment for them personally.  To that end; I listen to music in practically every genre. I tend to go through different phases, but I enjoy Mozart as much as Metallica, 80's one hit wonders and New Orleans Jazz, Lady Antebellum or Lady Gaga, Eminem to Zedd. Music has so much to offer in all genres that one could spend a lifetime discovering new things they like

 The 880 Premiums clamp A LOT lighter than the 990 Pros as well (super comfortable, though I could probably sneeze them off). In the end, I was glad I auditioned both sets, and even though the 880s are almost double what I got the 990's for I will be keeping them. I can see the appeal of the 990s, but still, for me they were just okay (and I'm talking sound wise only). Beyerdynamics makes some really nice cans, but a person needs to do their research to figure out which model will suit them best

 They are made very well and being able to replace any broken or worn part is a big benefit. I like the coiled cable and the plug with the screw-on ¼" adapter (though I wish it was detachable), and I think the phones are nicely styled. I wish the midrange had a bit more presence and that the phones had better dynamics (difficult with the subdued middle). The soundstage is very good, though it doesn't feel quite as wide as my HD 598s or 600's (at least to my ears)

They Just Didn't Do It For Me.

 They've got that iconic black color with the white grill inside that Beyerdynamic is known for. When you're wearing these people are gonna know. The earcups themselves are oval in shape and have that sexy silver velour padding which are very comfortable and surprisingly they don't get that hot during extended gaming sessions which is what we're all looking for at the end of the day when we're gaming. The headband has a nice clamping force on it so you won't be snatching these off your head or when you're just moving around from monitor to monitor or during like an intense battle these are gonna stay put

 They aren't super wide when it comes to soundstage but they are wide enough to get the job done and then some. I had no problems placing my enemies in game and destroying them. So are these just a hype train fad or are they actually good gaming headphones? And I have to say these are very good headphones sprinkled with a little bit of hype but that doesn't change the fact that these are still really good headphones. You're getting that great bare dynamic build construction with comfortable velour pads that don't get hot over time

 Ohms is the power needed to power the headphones and most computers can't produce 250 ohms of power to these headphones which is why you need an amp to boost the signal. I'll be dropping some cheap amp options down below for you guys as well as always. I'm personally using the LocksJoy P20 which is around $80 and it can power these with no problem. Music wise though these are balanced studio headphones with a slight emphasis on treble which gives them that airiness that translate to being a good stereo gaming headset

Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro Review! Ninja's Headphones.. Are they worth it for gaming?

I've had two of this same exact headset. They are very great with everything except that they are not durable at all. That's the only reason it is not a 5 star review. From constant use of putting them on and off they snap at the screws where you adjust the size

Be warned they break SUPER easy but overall amazing.

What I got my eyes on: I found a very reasonable price for a Beyerdynamic DT990 pro on amazon that ships to Turkey with very low import fees (150+20$ vs 270$ or 2300 Turkish Liras local price). But I've heard that they have very sharp treble, The bass is not a problem though. I've also looked into ath m50x and ath m40x which also seem pretty good especially since the m40x is very affordable at 140$ local price vs the 170$ Beyerdynamic and 210 USD ath m50x. Budget - 150$-200$ or around 1750 Turkish Liras

 There's definitely an emphasis on the bass/sub bass in these. For open headphones, these pull off an impressive amount of lows. It makes them great for electronic music like house, drum and bass, dubstep, etc as well as genres like rock and metal as the music feels full. Compared to Philips SHP9500's, which I believe have a pretty neutral and balanced sound, the DT990's sacrifice accuracy and detail for warmth and voluminous bass/sub bass

 I found the best part of the low end on these was just their tightness and really like their clarity and purity to them they felt very clean and well handled they have a really great dynamic feel that just gets that nice pop on certain sounds it's really satisfying to the ears. I listened to the song Natural by Sabrina Claudio so this has a nice r&b you know really fast attack drum sound to it with a really sort of subtle but present bass in the middle and I just found that the SR-80X gave me the parts that were essential so it wasn't really boosting those basement frequencies but it never felt empty or hollow it gave the drums and just the low end in general enough oomph to really punch through the mix without you know totally dominating it so while it is a very controlled low end response and maybe a little bit on the subdued side it doesn't feel incomplete and as long as it feels satisfying and full then that's a check for me but yeah if you want like super intense bass these are not going to give you that but they do do a good job handling the low end. So my overall thoughts on the SR-80X is that it definitely does earn its historically positive reputation for the price you're paying these do sound a lot more expensive and they just feel really well built and like they have a really pleasing sound that is right up a lot of people's alleys it is a more signature sound I can recognize these headphones blindfolded so it's not going to be for 100% of people because it is making a more individualistic point but obviously it has been for a lot of people and I think that the majority of listeners will be pretty pleased by what these have to offer sonically. So if you're looking for uh over your headphone in the 100 to 200 range and you want some nice sort of subtle saturation and extended bid range with an overall really tight snappy sound and a ton of crispness these are like the crispiest headphone ever they're a nice and sizzling really fun listen and I've definitely recommended them to many people in the past

 So these have a nice kind of vintage subtly industrial look to them, it's fairly minimalistic all black doesn't make a loud statement but I think they are pretty stylish and definitely a look that a lot of people will latch on to. They're pretty low profile and lightweight super easy to wear and super comfortable they have an adjustable fit here on the ears so we can pull or push in and out and then this is the new cable which is a four conductor cable and is meant to improve audio signal. I like the new cable it's definitely a nicer one than the sort of more rubbery stiff cable in the other version the older version but I will say it definitely does take a minute to kind of get the kinks out of it. You know these are a new pair but I will say that I'm having a little bit of trouble getting this wire under control I'm sure that over time it will you know chill out and kind of turn into a much more manageable cable but it's a little bit stiff you know as you can see when I'm wearing them it's kind of going up around my head a little bit not a huge deal you know I wouldn't mind it being a bit maybe more malleable but like I said I feel like that should probably solve itself over time

 So overall the mid-range on these is definitely kind of a big selling point that means that for some people it's not going to hit the spot because it is very specific but as I've mentioned these are very popular and it is a really high quality mid-range especially for what you're paying so I think that for most people it'll be great I just wanted to make the distinction that if you are very mid-sensitive it does have a little bit of sharpness to it. All right so for low end these are definitely not heavy on the sub as I expected but they are very percussive.  I listened to the song Go Away by Strawberry Switchblade which is a quintessential 80s sound and it has that thinner kind of early electronic timbre that a lot of 80s pop songs do and the SR-80X did a good job of really giving some more body to this song because it doesn't need that a lot of 80s songs need some body and a little bit of added warmth to them. Once again the vocals were carried really well without being buried because this song has these really huge strings and keys in it which definitely were extra defined because of the mid-range and the sort of extended feel to it that the SR-80X has but it did this you know extra definition without burying the vocals and I really appreciated that. So overall the mid-range on these is definitely kind of a big selling point that means that for some people it's not going to hit the spot because it is very specific but as I've mentioned these are very popular and it is a really high quality mid-range especially for what you're paying so I think that for most people it'll be great I just wanted to make the distinction that if you are very mid-sensitive it does have a little bit of sharpness to it.  It was a revelation, with incredible sonic quality, light weight, great comfort and an amazingly affordable price.  Years and hundred of listening hours later, my Grados met with a debilitating accident that amputated the phone plug. After extensive internal debate, I purchased the newly released SR80x, AND sent my trusty SR60s back to Grado for repair.  The new phones were even better sonically as the old ones, smoother and more open in the treble and extended in the bass

0 Audio Technica: M50, AD700, ES7 and Beyer DT 1990 Pros. My taste in sound is clearly biased. I tend to prefer a V-shaped frequency response curve. So naturally, I was worried the purportedly weaker bass in the Grados would turn me off them

  CONSTRUCTION: (6/10) While I adore the retro look, there's no question that most of the money went into the headphone drivers and sound design. The now-padded headband is a huge step up as the prestige e series had virtually no padding at all. The driver housings however are still a questionable looking gloss black plastic.  The driver housings however are still a questionable looking gloss black plastic. It's safe to say I'm going to be gentle with these, especially all the plastic parts. The earcups can swivel 360 degrees horizontally, making it convenient to fold them flat. They also have a little bit of vertical tilt adjustment

 Only after 5 minutes my ears were hot. It's not the material but the design. Perhaps that happens with on-ear headphones. All I know is that the headphones are useless without being comfortable

It's easy to dismiss comfort when you are looking for a product because quality is usually what is most sought in a product. Quality here is flawless. The sound actually makes you want to dance or get into the zone of listening to classical or whatever you like. The only problem is that the headphones press too much on the ears

 Perhaps people with tiny ears or ears that are very close to their head might not care. For me it matters because they are extremely uncomfortable. Only after 5 minutes my ears were hot. It's not the material but the design
