Benchmade Mini Barrage 585 review

  Other than the clip, the knife itself is rock solid. Great assisted opening mechanism.

Excellent Knife - Just Wish The Clip Was Stronger

 That way, it does not ever fall open on its own. I carry my barrage in my pocket often and usually don't lock the blade shut with the switch on the knife, but it's probably a good practice to do. I've never had a problem though.  I'm not a huge fan of the plasticy scales (sides of the handle) that come with the knife, but I'd much rather have a stellar blade and locking mechanism than worry about the feel of the handles

 The axis locking mechanism is superb and holds the blade firmly in place with very little wiggle. With a pull on the release mechanism the blade is easy to close, and the way the release is positioned, it ensures your fingers are away from the blade as it's closing. But be careful as with any good knife -- it is sharp!!  The axis-assist open works very reliably and swiftly. As you use the thumb stud to push the blade out of the knife, it crosses a threshold (of about a centimeter open) where the knife opens on its own and locks into place

Great pocket knife

 It has a hollow plastic design that no doubt was to save weight due to the steel liners inside. Other reviews have pointed out that you get a cheap feeling due to this. I agree thus 4 stars instead of 5. I would have liked a more rubberized solid grip even at the expense of more weight! Put this into the Can't Get Everything You Want bucket

This is a full-size grip and if I put this right here, it's About the same size as the yojimbo 2 here Of course, it looks a little bit different because of the cutting edge You might get a little bit more of a cutting edge on the bench made because there is a belly to it Whereas this is just a straight wharncliffe blade the ergos are great on both of them However, if I had to pick a knife for self-defense, of course I'm going to pick the one that was basically designed for that now since we made the comparison in the beginning here We have the CRKT provoke. Let's see if there's anything that actually relates to what we're looking at today I'm waiting for the day that someone actually Post the knife that I'm making a video on here. We actually have a good one This is coming from Bob Margolis who I actually met a few weeks ago his two different Amtac Northman blades here He has the live blade and then of course a trainer This one's pretty interesting because they are self-defense style blades and I actually trained with these exact blades right here with Bill Rapier I don't have a whole lot of knife training under my belt However, these are blades that I have used specifically in self-defense scenarios training Of course, and you're going to end up training differently with whatever blades you have Also on the lines of self-defense We have this right here the CRKT provoke and this is a killer shot from my friend Peter McKinnon now Believe it or not karambit style blades like that like the provoke which I happen to have right here The original design for these was not actually self-defense They were actually designed as an agricultural tool to sort of like scrape at roots and cut things like low in the dirt They have obviously since been adapted to be a very good self-defense blade This is one that I've never trained with however, it's still along the lines of self-defense and that definitely relates to the blade We're taking a look at today. So this one has been in my collection for quite a while now I would say probably like six or seven years and of course, we are taking a look at the Spyderco Yojimbo 2 The Yojimbo 2 was designed by personal defense trainer Michael Janich I actually had the pleasure of meeting him not too long ago in person

 Although we didn't get to talk a whole lot It was really cool meeting someone whose knife design I love so much He designed this thing with some refined ergonomics to really complement the contour of the human hand now Like I mentioned the overall design of a self-defense knife like this is really going to dictate how it's going to be put into an Application some blades will have a little bit more crossover than others like the Yojimbo 2 compared to the Northman that we took a look At in the beginning, but others like the Yojimbo versus the CRKT provoke You're looking at a completely different knife there drastically different design means There's probably going to be a pretty drastic difference in how you use it As far as the specs go the Yojimbo 2 has g10 handles Which are very grippy and the wharncliffe style blade is made out of a CPM s 30 V The blade length is coming in at just over three inches a handle length of four and a half inches giving an overall length of Seven and a half inches the pocket clip is very standard for a Spyderco knife giving you either tip up or tip down Both left and right handed configurations Of course It does have a relatively large size spidey hole there to flick this thing open and then you can see it lock into place on The rear here with that compression lock Alright guys, here we go. Close-up.   Handle also seems slightly small for my hand in the primary grip...middle of fingers often on points and handle horns can jab base of thumb, on top of hindering Spydie-Drops (partially concealed hole doesn't help here either)
