Benchmade 585 Mini Barrage vs Spyderco Shaman

Hello! Here I have a mini barrage from Benchmade. It's number is 585. This knife was sent to me for review. Let's take a look at it

I suggest going with a Spyderco Shaman, especially if you can find a good spring run on r/knife_swap. It's sort of a hybrid between a Native 5 and a PM2 and I think it should be the successor to the PM2 because it's an improvement in virtually every way (ergonomics, blade shape, looks, ergonomics). Did I mention ergonomics?.

That way, it does not ever fall open on its own. I carry my barrage in my pocket often and usually don't lock the blade shut with the switch on the knife, but it's probably a good practice to do. I've never had a problem though. I'm not a huge fan of the plasticy scales (sides of the handle) that come with the knife, but I'd much rather have a stellar blade and locking mechanism than worry about the feel of the handles

1. I would flip the locking mechanism upright 2. I would get rid of the slight dip on the end of the handle.

It has a hollow plastic design that no doubt was to save weight due to the steel liners inside. Other reviews have pointed out that you get a cheap feeling due to this. I agree thus 4 stars instead of 5. I would have liked a more rubberized solid grip even at the expense of more weight! Put this into the Can't Get Everything You Want bucket

The pocket clip has been stonewashed to match the blade. Overall, this blade feels a lot sturdier than a Delica, Endura, or Manix and you pay for that in the weight department. I'm not sure how the compression lock compares in strength to the Cold Steel Tri-Ad mechanism, but my sample exhibits solid lockup with no movement whatsoever. Blade centering is slightly off from perfect, but not in any way that would alter performance
